Why would you need ECG Testing?

The type of ECG test you have will depend on your symptoms and what type of heart problem you might have. There are three main types of ECG. This is an outstanding book editedby professor Douglas Zipes who is one of the most prominent electrophysiologist of our era. This book is not only extremely comprehensive (and expensive) it is the Bible for arrhythmologists. Out of all the books mentioned here, you’re probably confused about which one you should get. Well, that will depend on what you need in medical school.

ECGs…EKGs…whatever you call them, I left medical school with a poor understanding of them. I could determine the rate, rhythm, and axis, and maybe a “tombstone” STEMI, but that was about it. During the first week of residency at NYU/Bellevue, I became even more insecure when one of my co-residents, Stephen Hoge, had an expert-like ability to read E CGs. I asked him how he became so comfortable reading them, and he mentioned he took a course with Dr. Tom Evans at UCSF and was provided Dr. Evans’s famous cribsheets. So, I started reading the cribsheets. It helped but still didn’t provide the foundation I needed. But then it happened…I found my path. Set up in the same way of Garcia’s first book ( 12-Lead ECG: The Art of Interpretation), Arrhythmia Recognition: The Art of Interpretation begins with an introduction to arrhythmia recognition then spends six sections diving into the different dysrhythmias. The book is also filled with excellent pearls. It’s not always possible for you to be given the results of your ECG immediately, as the recordings will have to be looked at by a specialist doctor to determine whether there are signs of a possible problem. Other tests may also need to be carried out before it’s possible to tell you whether there’s a problem. This is a great book for paramedics, students and anyone else who wishes to develop their knowledge of ECGs. There are numerous case studies which are detailed in a way that will help the reader examine the whole picture including patient history, symptom experienced, vital signs and then take logical steps towards ECG analysis, thus leading to a working diagnosis. Even if you have never seen an ECG before, this book will help you understand the basics and lead you through the stages to become confident in interpreting ECGs.’ Thanks to how accessible it is, students with little to no prior electrocardiography knowledge can use this book. This says a lot about how accurate and valuable this book is going to be. It ensures that every reader will have a guaranteed state-of-the-art comprehension of ECG from a professional. You may need to visit the hospital, clinic or your GP a few days later to discuss your results with a doctor. Are there any risks or side effects? The authors wrote this text for medical students and professional emergency physicians with an existing knowledge base. It can be used to investigate symptoms of a possible heart problem, such as chest pain, palpitations (suddenly noticeable heartbeats), dizziness and shortness of breath.
