About this deal

Priscilla's descriptions of the nights she spent with Elvis before their marriage suggest that the star was not overtly sexual towards her. The couple kissed and engaged in petting, but Elvis always stopped the make-out sessions before it led to actual intercourse. And Elvis charmed her parents to go along with visits. Oh do I have things to say about her parents. WHO ALLOWS THEIR TEENAGE DAUGHTER TO VISIT A MAN IN THE STATES AND THEN CHANGE SCHOOLS TO GO LIVE WITH HIM? WHO DOES THAT!?

When it comes to reading a biography… I feel a little unfair when I rate the book anything under 5 stars unless I hate it. This is the persons own words, on their own experience - their life. Reading older biographies is sometimes complicated, and it sure was in this case. I read through contemporary eyes; things that shouldn’t have been ok then… shouldn’t have been tolerated were. “It WaS a DiFfErEnT tImE” - yeah, idgaf. A lot on this book was hard to wrap my brain around (I’ve compiled a short —- ehhh… short-ISH list below of those points). Elvis and Me was published in 1986, and written about a time in the 60s and 70s. The societal shift on what’s acceptable and what isn’t is showcased in this book. Priscilla describes how her father reluctantly allowed her to live in Memphis, Tennessee to be near Elvis. The initial arrangement was that Priscilla would live with Vernon and Dee while attending a Memphis Catholic school. Contrary to this arrangement, Priscilla gradually moved in with Elvis. Priscilla also describes several episodes involving Elvis' explosive temper and his jealous nature; including the time he went into a rage and threatened to fire a male employee ( Memphis Mafia member Jerry Schilling), who supposedly acted too "friendly" with Priscilla. Priscilla Presley admits she had two affairs of her own, and the up and down marriage was irreparably broken down by 1972. The last straw for Priscilla came when Elvis, possibly having learned of the second affair with her karate instructor Mike Stone, raped her in his Las Vegas hotel room, telling her, "This is how a real man makes love to a woman." Also during this time, Elvis considered hiring a hit man to kill Stone, but ultimately didn't follow through. However after reading this book I have to say I have little respect for the man. Good singer or no, he had the morals of a hyena.

More From Entertainment:

Chipped nails or patterned clothing was also frowned upon because she was “Elvis’s doll, his own living doll, to fashion as he pleased.” It's also disturbing to know that while Elvis was very controlling and abusive with Priscilla and those who worked for him, he was under the abusive control of Colonel Parker. It's a vicious cycle of abuse.

I mean, you lived his life. You saw the movies he wanted to see. You listened to the music he wanted to listen to. You’d go to places that he would go… I honestly didn’t have my own life. … So I really kind of lost myself.” Is no one going to talk about the fact that Elvis was giving Priscilla drugs?! A 14 year old? And basically OD’d her at 16?! K, what????!!!While they planned on having children, Elvis and Priscilla had hoped to wait awhile, and Priscilla was not prepared for her pregnancy. She considered an abortion, in part because Elvis had made derogatory comments in the past about "women using pregnancy as an excuse to let themselves go." Feeling insecure, she dieted to the point that by the time she gave birth, she then weighed less than she had before becoming pregnant. During Priscilla's pregnancy, she and Elvis made love passionately until she began hearing rumors about Elvis and Nancy Sinatra, his co-star in the film Speedway. When Priscilla confronted Elvis about the stories, he dismissed them out of hand, telling her she was being overly sensitive due to her "condition" (pregnancy). However, six months into her pregnancy, Nancy Sinatra telephoned Priscilla and said she wanted to give her a baby shower. Priscilla was apprehensive about such a request coming from a woman she hardly knew, but Elvis convinced her to accept the offer. Priscilla went along with it and she and Sinatra got along well together. Everything seemed fine until a week or so later, when Elvis informed Priscilla that he needed time to think and wanted a trial separation. Devastated, all she could say was: "You've got it. Just tell me when to leave." She lived in agony for days, but Elvis changed his mind without ever saying a thing. Two months later, their daughter Lisa Marie was born in Memphis on February 1, 1968. He figured I didn’t need it, and I agreed. Just being with him most of the time would provide an education- not to mention experience- that no school could give me. He wanted me to be his totally, free to go to him an instant if he needed me. That sounded great to me. I’d never planned on a future without Elvis.” He taught me everything,” Priscilla went on to admit. “How to dress, how to walk, how to apply makeup and wear my hair, how to behave, how to return love-his way. Over the years, he became my father, husband, and very nearly God.” with my hate for him as a person, I would marry Priscilla if I could!!!! I love her so much and have an insane amount of empathy towards her. being forced to not take birth control, being found undesirable, questioning her sexuality, and raising lisa marie on her own. my heart :’( starring Austin Butler as Elvis. Now, with a new cover depicting their wedding day, it is finally available in all reading formats.

The very next line of Priscilla's book says that after the Ann-Margret ordeal she soon suspected there were other women. She began traveling with him but says she would still "get crazed with worry." She was afraid that the moment she was away from him, another woman could slip in. Priscilla relates how her insecurities would lead her to imitate the other woman's appearance (changing her clothes, hairstyle and makeup), to hopefully please him. There are advantages to reading this particular biography. The official version of events is often what is published, but Priscilla is positioned to know the real story, more often than not. For example: when Elvis is drafted, the official story is that, although stars of his caliber are often offered soft assignments that involve singing to the troops, or making inspirational training films, Elvis insisted on doing the same job as every other American man. On the other hand, Priscilla states that this is all his manager’s doing, because it will make Elvis appear noble. Enough new songs were taped in advance for there to be regular new releases on the radio throughout his tour of duty; toward the end, Elvis feigns illness because he’d prefer to be in the hospital being swarmed by nurses than marching around and getting dirty. Elvis Presley’s ex-wife Priscilla Presley recently shed light on her past relationship with the signer in a new memoir and even went into candid details about the good and the bad.Priscilla shares with us the brightest moments as well as some ugly truths about the man she loved and their unique relationship. She also shares interesting tidbits about Elvis' eccentricities and his career in film and music.
