About this deal

Through the web interface, Network --> Firewall, "Software flow offloading, which will then allow you to enable "Hardware flow offloading". All other setting are unchanged/defaults. Some things I noticed right away, since I’ve only been using this new setup with the USG for a a day now. Figured I would do a little write up on my adventures with a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X and OpenWRT (18.06.1, r7258-5eb055306f). By default EdgeOS comes up at 192.168.1.1 on the physical port labeled"eth0". Default creds are ubnt/ubnt. scp openwrt-ramips-mt7621-ubnt-erx-initramfs-factory.tar [email protected]:/tmp Connect an Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on your computer to the port labeled eth0/PoE In on the EdgeRouter. If you are using PoE, then connect your computer to the EdgeRouter via a PoE switch or to the adapter’s LAN port. If you search on Unifi USG vs EdgeRouter you will find two common answers; the EdgeRouter is difficult to configure and the USG is slower. Both are true, but there is more to it. USG and EdgeRouter comparedThe DashBoard displays various info about the Services (the Routes and the status of the OSPF, NAT, Firewall and DSHCP) and the distribution of the Interfaces (All, Ethernet, VLAN and PPPoE) and it allows you to add new Interfaces or configure the existing ones. The Traffic Analysis tab shows info about the traffic which passes through the router, including the Top hosts, the types of network traffic and it gives the option to configure the application category. The EdgeRouter, on the other hand, comes with its own interface, just like any other router. But that doesn’t mean that it’s harder to setup. It comes with more, advanced, features and a couple of wizards that you can use to setup the router.

I sure there have been other improvements, but overall my network seems much more stable since switching to the USG. I also used the ERPoE-5 for about 4-5 years. I know the CPUs between both devices are similar, but not sure what else in terms of specs. Ubiquiti decided to put the LED lights on top of the device (nice to see there’s still some love for the classical array) and these indicators show the status of the Power, eth0, eth1, eth2, eth3 and eth4 (available for all five ports: if the LED is green, then, there’s an established link at 10/100/1000 Mbps, while, if the LED flashes, it indicates Activity). In the USG you can enable IPS. IPS is an engine that identifies potentially malicious traffic based on signatures. The signatures contain known traffic patterns or instruction sequences used by malware. When I disable Traffic Control, and redo above tests it is again 300/500 for the wired direct connection. So it doesn’t seem to make any difference. We recommend that you protect your networks from harmful outdoor environments and destructive ESD events with industrial-grade, shielded Ethernet cable from Ubiquiti. For more details, visit: ui.com/toughcable You are planning out your new home network, want those awesome Unifi access points, but which router should you add to it? Are you going for the Unifi USG to stay with the Unifi line, or is the faster and cheaper Edge router a better option? So on one side, we got the speed of the routers but the other big difference between the two is the interface. The big advantage of the USG is that you can manage it within in Unifi Controller. By adding a USG to your network you will get full network insight starting at your internet connection all the way through the client devices. Configuring an Unifi USG
