First of all, what does it look like? There’s no doubt that this is a Fender amp. It looks to be a combination of a classic Fender Tweed amp and a Fender Silverface amp. To give you an idea: You would expect significant volume from the 100-watt power section, but we have to say that the Mustang III doesn’t cut as well as other models – particularly the Fender Deluxe. However, times have moved on from loud being the be-all and end-all when it comes to amps. It does, however, still have the capacity to fill a venue adequately. The main cabinet is made out of plywood, which is much better than MDF. Grill-cloth is made out of the standard fabric Fender uses for all its Silverface amps. The classic chrome Fender-logo is proudly presented on the face. There is a Mustang logo on the top of the face, right where the logo on a Tweed amp would be.

Fender Mustang I V.2 | GAK

The Fender Mustang III comes after the lower-powered I and II, with a larger 100-W and single 12-inch speaker; it has managed to be still compact and portable. The LCD screen and large data wheel are a modern-day finish to the traditional Fender cabinet. If you are a beginner first getting into electric guitar, I highly recommend this amp. Out of all the beginner practice amps I have seen, this one is so far my favorite. It has allowed my students to not only start out with a great basic tone but allowed them to learn about different effects and learn to tweak their tone to their liking. The quality of the tones seem to be much higher than other similar modelling practice amps and for the price, it’s great value. There are some downsides, such as a limited reach, but in our opinion, an amp with Bluetooth can be a worthwhile investment. Final Thoughts on the Mustang III Without doubt, the main attribute of this Fender combo is the authentic sounding amp modelling on board. Amp Reviews

This is a fantastic first amp for a beginner. The ability to easily connect the amp to your PC/Mac via USB sets this amp above other budget range amps. Having a wide range of modelled amps, effects and presets gives you plenty of flexibility. The only time you will outgrow this amp is when you need something louder or you move to styles that require more gain for styles such as metal. The quality of the effects and the Fender style modelled amps are excellent and suit players interested in that type of tone. In addition to the 17 amps, there are 44 available effects split into four categories. The categories are: Stompbox (typical pedal style effects such as overdrive, distortion, compressors and wahs), Modulation (such as chorus, flanger, tremolo, pitch shifter and filters), Delay (a few different types of delay such as ping-pong, tape, reverse, stereo) and Reverb (small hall, large hall, plate, ambient, spring). The Stompbox effects are only accessible through the Fender FUSE software so if you don’t connect your amp to your PC/Mac, you will only be able to adjust the other three categories of effects. The bright fender tone you would expect to hear is present, until you start altering the settings and dialling in some of the amp models that is! The extensibility of this amp also makes it great for getting started with digital recording. In fact, one user review alluded to the fact that this is more of a 'guitar system' than an amplifier. Disadvantages Don’t underestimate it for its size, because the amp is very powerful, even beyond a typical practice amp. It comes with 20 watts of solid state power, which is easily enough for home use and even mic’d gigs. I know this from personal experience. I played my first 3 or 4 gigs with just this amp. The amp was obviously mic’d, because 20 watts of solid-state through an 8” speaker isn’t enough to keep up with a band.

Fender Mustang III Review: Is It Right for Your Needs? Fender Mustang III Review: Is It Right for Your Needs?

The Fender Mustang I (V2) 20 Watt Digital Practice Amp is an extremely versatile piece of kit and is ideal for guitarists at all levels. There is a significant range of adjustable effects and amplifier modes for players to experiment with. We should give a special mention to the reverbs and delays as both have wide selections – ranging from ultra-modern ambiance to vintage-inspired tones. The amp doesn’t feel too heavy and feels quite well made. Being a small amp you’re less likely to cause serious damage if you drop it. My students who own this amp have never reported any issues with the amp or with the software. Overall impressionIt is still advertised as being compatible with FUSE, and it is but just not through the originally authentic channel. We appreciate that some players may be disinclined to use other software and find it a little underhand that it is regularly advertised as having something it doesn’t. Weight Wefinally have a modelling amp has had the common sense to include a USB port to connect to a PC/Mac. Modelling amps have been around for years and while amps have been very reluctant to include a USB port, multi-effect pedals have been including them for years and it works really well (see the review on the Line 6 HD500X). Fender FUSE The world’s best-selling amplifier series, Fender Mustang, really knows what they’re doing in every aspect, from the materials for construction to the modern technology capabilities. The Brand The quality of some of the amp models available was also called into question, particularly some of the metal tones. Some people found it difficult to find a good clean tone they were happy with. It has to be said that only a small minority are unhappy with this practice amp but we like to bring both the good and bad points to your attention so you can make an informed decision. Summary Seventeen high-quality Fender and other amp models including five new ones, such as '57 Twin and '60s Thrift
