About this deal

Knitting by Post Toy Knitting Pattern Designers. You Can be Confident as This Pattern Has Been Lovingly Crafted by Specialists. Festive Friends is a very simple but hugely effective project which will allow clubs to make a real difference and provide a memorable day for hundreds of socially isolated elderly people across Scotland. Almost 500 elderly people across Scotland will receive a Christmas to remember thanks to 26 Scottish football clubs and their charity arms, in a new ‘Festive Friends’ project being facilitated by the SPFL Trust. In another powerful demonstration of the positive impact football can make in local communities, 487 socially isolated older people have been invited to their local SPFL stadiums to enjoy a free Christmas meal, receive a gift and meet new friends including staff from the clubs. It reveals that community trusts and associated SPFL clubs delivered 2,802 Christmas gift boxes to people in Scotland who were at risk of social isolation and loneliness as part of our 2020 Festive Friends at Home campaign.

This December, Big Hearts are bringing Christmas cheer to those that need it most this year by taking part in the biggest ever SPFL Trust Festive Friends programme! Scottish football is trusted to support, and our recent research shows that almost 83% of people live within ten miles of a SPFL ground – because of this clubs and their associated community trusts are well positioned to effect this type of change in their communities. The highlight of Festive Friends at Tynecastle Park will be our Memories Lunch on 14 December. Throughout Covid-19 Big Hearts’ reminiscence project has played a vital role in keeping the elderly engaged and connected during those challenging times. Being able to celebrate around a festive lunch together is something that our participants, volunteers and staff are really looking forward to.” Festive Friends has been running for five years but community trusts and associated SPFL clubs (ATCs) would normally host a three-course Christmas lunch with entertainment for people in the community who may otherwise spend Christmas alone. We’re therefore delighted to support this very worthwhile cause, working closely with our partners in the SPFL Trust and football clubs across Scotland.

Physical distancing rules mean that isn’t possible in 2020, so clubs are flipping the entire operation, and will head into their communities to make thousands of doorstep visits.Big Hearts’ Memories Lunch will see older participants and volunteers from across our Football Memories and Edinburgh Memories project come together for the first time in two years. The event will mark the end of a successful year where our free social group for over 65s at risk of social isolation welcomed an average of 100 people on a monthly basis. Festive Friends is now into its fifth year, but with life looking very different this holiday season, the SPFL Trust has teamed up with 37 ATCs to launch a new ‘at home’ version of the programme. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) will also be assisting ATCs with deliveries throughout the festive period. In each SFRS delivered hamper, there will be fire safety advice leaflets for the elderly and vulnerable.
