It is snowy and Norman is directing his very first movie up on Pontypandy Mountain, starring Mandy and Sarah. Norman ignores Sam's warning not to cross the boundary ropes, and an avalanche traps him and the girls in a shed. Note that in several cases, titles have been reused in VHS and DVD releases with quite different content. In the fifth series, Sam retains most of his characteristics from the original series. He still works for the Pontypandy Fire Service, ran by Station Officer Steele. He still works with fellow firefighters Elvis Cridlington and Penny Morris, although he does not work with Trevor Evans anymore. While Sam still likes to spend time with his niece and nephew Sarah and James, as well as inventing, he does that less often then he did in the original series. It is established by Sam in the fifth series that once had to save Woolly, a lamb who needed rescuing from Pontypandy Mountain. It's time for the annual Fireworks Night in Pontypandy. The Sparkes learn that the safest way to enjoy fireworks is at the official public display! When Mandy reads Moose Roberts' book about his mountain climbing adventures, she decides that she wants to be a mountain climber when she grows up and makes the mistake of climbing Pontypandy Mountain on her own.

Station Officer Steele discovers his old fire engine, Bessie, which turns out to be useful when Moose has an accident with a campfire and some gas canisters. When a class tour of the airport goes wrong, it is up to Norman to use his gaming skills to control FireSwift until the Rescue Team arrives! Mike doesn't believe that Radar is a rescue dog, but he is soon proved wrong after he falls and breaks his arm in the Whole Fish Cafe cellar.

It draws on water that it is driven in as a source for putting out fires, instead of relying on a water tank.
