About this deal

As Charlie's friends mourn over her death, a woman drives up and got out. She was slim and tall, with long, straight brown hair that glistened in the sun. She strode purposefully toward the diner. They all watched motionless, as if the slightest sound might rupture the illusion and send her away. The woman was almost at the door. She is seen again, with Carlton and Marla at Carlton's house. By the time John arrives, they are excited that he came. The group then starts to talk about Charlie, and how she's different lately. In The Silver Eyes, Marla is a teenage girl who is described to have dark brown hair, as well as wearing a loose dark red blouse.

At the end of the novel, an injured John very vaguely told the childhood crew about Charlie's death. He went to the cemetery where Charlie had taken him a long time ago, and followed the same path she took. In his head, he began thinking about how Charlie told him that she remembered him confessing his love for her, scolding himself. Approaching two small, plain tombstones, he suddenly felt as though he was being watched. He turned around and saw a girl, who is assumed to be Charlie, standing beneath a tree a few yards away, extending her hand towards him. John's mind went numb, and he walked towards the woman under the tree.Due to the many similarities between the novels and the games, it's implied that William Afton's appearance in the novels could be his true appearance in the games. He kept Charlie's old childhood robot's, Theodore's, still-functioning head on his nightstand. His apartment was barely furnished, and was quite messy. He spent most of his time laying on his bed, theorizing about reasons Charlie could still be alive. He was entirely unwilling to see Charlie, and the time after her "death" was spent alone. They rushed to the doorway to meet her just as she walked in. Arty seemed confused, his mouth opened slightly and his brow furrowed. John watched for a steady moment, then turned away decisively, facing across the table with a grave expression. He didn’t speak until Arty met his gaze. “That’s not Charlie.”

Afton was able to get an advantage by stabbing Larson, transferring his infection to him, but Larson persevered. Afton was impaled by a forklift drove by the detective, crashing through the walls of factory and towards the lake nearby. Afton overpowers Larson's force, crushing the forklift to pieces, but not before the broken mask of The Marionette, as well as several of its limbs went within Afton's new form. Jessica first appears in Chapter 1, where she is driving her car, she then sees John, and asks him if he can meet up with her and the group at Carlton's house. John reluctantly accepts, and Jessica drives away.

To speed up the process, William captures the original animatronics and fuses their endoskeletons together, rendering them unable to move and ready to be used for experimentation, involving melting down the endoskeletons to see if they would bring life to the Funtimes. One of these experiments involved heating up and injecting a glowing liquid from the endoskeletons into his new Funtime animatronics, which animated them and gave him full control over them. Another involved Elizabeth surgically removing organs from his body and smashing them into the endoskeletons, hoping for some kind of change. Despite popular belief, William is not actually insane, as he makes mention of the fact that what he is doing is wrong, yet goes through it anyway, likely suggesting that he does not care about morality and simply does it for his own gain. However, it is previously learned in The Silver Eyes that he had an unhealthy obsession with Henry, so obsessed to the point where he wrote countless diaries about him ranging from jealousy to near worship, proving that he wasn't very mentally sound to begin with. He also appears to have no regrets, as in The Fourth Closet, he says that killing the missing children led to great things. That night, Charlie, Jessica, John, and Carlton return to the restaurant, accompanied by their friends Lamar, Marla, and her 11-year-old brother Jason. Once Carlton is released from the suit with Charlie's help, Golden Freddy mysteriously vanishes without a trace.

While Jessica, Carlton, and Marla were able to rescue most of the kidnapped children, one boy was captured by Funtime Foxy/Mangle and brought to William. Running out of time and low on options, William injected a glowing liquid from the endoskeleton into Carlton, who stayed behind to save the boy and put an end to Afton. Unaware that the injection didn't kill Carlton and instead enabled him to talk to the souls of Afton's victims, which are revealed to be still inside of the amalgamated endoskeletons, a disappointed William turned to the cornered kid. He gleefully tells the boy that even if this next experiment is another failure, at least "it will be fun; like old times".As they search for a way out, the four robots come to life and pursue them through the restaurant. William reveals that the robots are possessed by the vengeful ghosts of his victims, and boasts that they will hunt down and kill any intruders. The group tries to hide in a party room, but all four robots corner them. Marla appears in the final chapter, where she meets John, Jessica, and Arty at a diner. The four of them talk about Charlie and her death. Just then, the four of them see "Charlie" but in an altered appearance, coming to the diner. Marla and Jessica happily run up to her, while Arty and John remained at the booth confused.
