The truth is, however, that living in France doesn’t have to be the only way that you experience the French lifestyle and culture. The Parisian lifestyle, in particular, is something that can be copied in metropolitan areas, while overall French living can be adopted anywhere you live. Since we are obsessed with all things French lifestyle, there are many French lifestyle tips that we’ve slowly adopted or are trying to adopt. France is one of our favorite countries to travel to and a large part of that is because we absolutely love French lifestyle habits. Our recent three week road trip around France opened our eyes to the French mentality of how to live well. Did you know that working on Sunday is even forbidden by the law? Indeed, the French labor code sets out the principle of a Sunday rest according to which the weekly rest must be given on Sunday. That is why on Sunday in France, most stores are closed even if the Macron Law now allows large shops in specially-designated tourist zones in Paris to open on Sundays. 14. Adopt The “Laissez Faire”Approach To Wellness

This French term was used by 19th-Century French prose-poet and essayist Charles Baudelaire to identify an observer of modern urban life. At this time, in a society characterized by progress and capitalism, the flâneur becomes a revolutionary who doesn’t want to participate but to contemplate. Follow your own schedule.Perhaps it’s Friday or even Saturday night, everyone must be out doing something, staying up late, right? Wrong.Your daily schedule is one that works for you and those you spend your time with. Perhaps you prefer Wednesday evenings out because Thursdays are lighter days at work and you enjoy spending your weekends waking up early and getting things done. Whatever schedule works for your goals, intentions, health, family, etc – adhere to it and don’t apologize. After all, our lives, needs and desires change, listen to what is nudging you, calling your name and that is where you will find the unexpected beauty. Elevate the conversation. Easier said than done when we are exhausted, stressed and frustrated, but when you do your best to refrain from complaining and gossiping, you are less likely to go home in the evening regretting or feeling guilty about partaking. In fact, when conversations are full of curious information – books, local events, news, etc – you can walk away inspired, motivated and eager to do something new. Why not bring such a conversation to those in your world? Flâner” which could be almost translated as “to stroll” or “to lounge”, is a concept so French that the word has no true English equivalent. The flâneur is someone who, rooted in the present, wanders through a city with no destination in mind but with a clear purpose: to observe the world in a philosophical way.French Living was originally created as a tiny shop, selling everything to do with food from France - cheese and wine, charcuterie, classic French grocery items and dishes, tableware, kitchen utensils and pots, table decorations….. This slow and steady attitude is vital to really embracing the French lifestyle and all the simple pleasures that come with it. You can’t embrace mindful eating, socialization, art, wellness, or any of the other French priorities if you’re running around with no time to stop, think, savor, and enjoy.

The way we eat is so different from what I just described. Bassam and I are usually on the go, in a rush, or eating while we are working. Even when do have dinner together, we often do so in front of the TV. Although we love food and can take great care to prepare it, we don’t always take the same care in eating it.Housing options range from city apartments to countryside chateaux. It’s not easy to find a place before you arrive, as landlords prefer to meet tenants first. By far the most common type of accommodation in French cities are apartments. In rural areas, cottages are usually up for sale rather than being available to rent. Although full of character, city apartments tend to be old and small with poor insulation. In an unfurnished rental property, the kitchen may be bare, with no appliances or white goods.
