Visit of the Duke and Duchess of Montpensier to the Sherry wine stores of Don Pedro Domecq – The Illustrated London News, 1849 PHNewsNow (December 19, 2016). "Emperador bags 2 awards at 2016 International Review of Spirits» Business | OFW Newsfeed". OFW Newsfeed . Retrieved January 18, 2017. [ dead link] After acquiring Bodega San Bruno in Jerez, Spain, the brand introduced an Emperador Deluxe variant in 2013. The brand saw a 7.6% reduction of sales by volume in 2015, but maintained its volume above 30 million cases (270 million liters), a level it has held since 2012. [2] [3] Popular in Asia, primarily in the Philippines and the Middle East, Emperador secured the top spot in an article in The Spirits Business in 2016 after making its sales figures available to the publication for the first time. In 2010, Emperador Light was introduced with lower alcohol content and was targeted to younger alcoholic beverage consumers. Emperador Light sales were bolstered by a "Gawin mong Light" campaign launched in 2011. [2] Sales increased significantly after that, rising from 57 million liters in 2009 to nearly 300 million liters in 2015. [3] The label of the Light variation identifies the product as " Premium BRANDY Liqueur", rather than simply "brandy". This indicates that the product is a liqueur containing flavorings, sweeteners, and neutral spirits alcohol made from sugarcane, in addition to brandy. It is brandy's moment and, for Ángel Piña, Global Chief Commercial & Marketing Officer of Fundador and Emperador Distillers Spain , like everything good in life , "we had it in front of us, but we didn't value it enough". Fundador is probably the most iconic brand of sherry brandy, produced by the legendary Pedro Domecq. Its name means founder and this is well chosen because in 1874 it was the first brand ever to be marketed as Brandy de Jerez . Obviously there is written evidence of distillation in Spain in the 16th century (with the first tax imposed in 1580) – the art of distillation itself was introduced in Andalusia in the 8th century, then probably only for medicinal purposes.Fundador was the first brand of brandy in Spain and it still lives on today, even though Domecq was sold In early 2015, the brand was estimated to have a 97% share of the brandy market and a 50% share of the overall spirits market in the Philippines (population 100 million), and a 73% share of the spirits market in Manila. Fundador Solera Reserva - Spanish Brandy : The Whisky Exchange

Brandy varies wildly based on where it's made. If a bottle comes from Cognac, you can expect more nuanced, elevated flavors; Cognac is required to undergo a specific aging process, hence the price tag. Calvados, on the other hand, is sweeter and fruitier than Cognac. Bottles from Spain will often lean on Spanish wine grapes or sherry processes, while Bolivian brandy is clear and fruity. Brandy is an English adaptation of the original Dutch word “brandewijn” (burnt wine) whilst the term holanda (name given to wine spirits of low alcoholic content used in the production of Brandy de Jerez) is derived from the name of the country to which most of the exports were destined: Holland. The term 'brandavin' was already in use in picaresque literature of the 17th Century, as can be seen in “The Life and Works of Estebanillo González, man of good humour”. In the early 19th century English and French merchants began to arrive in Jerez and, together with Spanish traders with clear commercial instincts, promoted trade and laid down the guidelines for the characteristic production and ageing process of Brandy de Jerez. Mouth: some vague fruits again, maybe a hint of apricot. Now there’s a slightly rough edge to it, plain alcohol and a plankish kind of woodiness. Fades into caramel flavours, a hint of toffee and light mocha. The finish is quite short and rough, with lingering caramel. Nose: fruitcake notes with a slight pungency of oak spices. It’s smooth with no rough edges but on the other hand there’s little to get excited about. Complexity is fairly low. Brandy de Jerez Solera Reserva — With a minimum average maturation period of 1 year and a total content of volatile components of 200mg. per 100 cc. of pure alcohol. Fundador, origin of the first Spanish brandy and a reference since 1874, has been able to adapt to the new times without neglecting the tradition that supports it. In 2021 it presents its best-known Brandy Solera, Fundador Sherry Cask Solera, completely renovated. In 1990, Emperador Brandy was launched as Philippines' first brandy label. Emperador Brandy has since started to expand its brand footprint outside the Philippines. It holds its position as the world's largest "cut brandy" by volume and it is now being distributed in 40 countries throughout Asia, North America, Africa, Middle East, and Europe. Classification of Brandy de Jerez [ edit ] Offices of the Brandy de Jerez Regulatory Council in Jerez The creation of brand names for Brandy de Jerez occurred during the 19th Century on the initiative of sherry firms who were pioneers in the sale of brands which still exist today, not only in Spain but in numerous countries throughout the world. These are used to obtain spirits of low alcoholic content, between 40° and 70°. Holandas is the term used in Jerez to refer to these wine spirits low in alcoholic content, which are of greater quality as they require the distillation of the best of wines and better evoke the raw material from which they are produced. Since 2006, it has been the world's top-selling brand of brandy in terms of quantity of brandy sold. [1] Annual sales in 2015 amounted to 275 million liters.
