Underneath the heatsink is a stable and efficient base for the fan to sit on. It takes the shape of two rubber strips that are applied on its edges. The heatsink can become more silent by removing the 120mm fan. Doing so makes the cooler ideal for low-noise setups. The Ghost S1 is one of the most expensive SFF pc cases on the market, and is often built with enthusiast-grade components – the only other market we could rival it against is the Dancase A4-SFX (both featured in our SFF case buying guide). Using a similar internal layout to the A4-SFX, it actually can hold a wider range of CPU coolers due to its wider clearance between the motherboard and enclosure – offering a potential for superior airflow. There are a few great CPU coolers for the Ghost S1 that we would recommend – with the first being the Scythe Big Shuriken 2 – a popular option for many Ghost S1 builders. Secondly, and the one we would recommend over any other air cooler is the Noctua NH-L12 – the most popular and superior CPU cooler for the Ghost S1. Now, our Noctua NH-L12 Ghost S1 Edition review will provide you with its specifications. Cooler Specification The cooler comes with Noctua’s NH-L12 popular heatsink. It was one of the most successful CPU coolers for low-profile systems on the market. We’ve tested pretty much every low-profile cooler on the market in the Ghost S1 and even tried to create a complete custom solution in collaboration with Noctua, but nothing worked as well as our long-term favourite, the NH-L12. That’s why we’ve ended up creating a customised special edition of this cooler that will be the ideal choice for all Ghost S1 users who are looking for the best possible air cooling solution.’

LOUQE Ghost S1 Mk III (Limestone) Mini-ITX Computer Case

A fast and convenient build experience: Build directly on the spine with open component access from every angle. It makes use of four heatpipes organised in a certain C-shape, plus an aluminium-made heatsink with a 92mm fan. The differing designs aren’t extremely out of the ordinary for such a cooler. However, one of the aspects that you’ll immediately notice is the fan mounted beneath the radiator. Airflow is at 64.3 m³/h and is 52.6 m³/h with L.N.A. The maximum acoustic noise for the fan is 17.6 dBA while it’s 13.1 dBA with L.N.A. What does 4mm mean to you? To users of the Louqe Ghost S1, a swish mini ITX case, it meant the difference between compatible and incompatible. This ultra-compact design fits the old Noctua NH-L12 like a dream. However, Noctua’s newer NH-L12S reaches ever so slightly higher and no longer fits. Thankfully Noctua are now releasing the slimmed NH-L12 Ghost S1 edition, a classic NH-L12 updated with the latest SecuFirm2 AM4-compatible mounting and NT-H2 thermal paste. The cooler’s heatsink measures 66 x 128 x 150mm (H x W x D). Its weight, combined with that of the fan, gives you 500g in total.

Small but handy

The cooler’s name is a reference to the Ghost S1 enclosure that’s manufactured by Louqe. It’s a company that Noctua partnered with to produce this specific cooler. The Noctua NH-L12 Ghost S1 Edition sports a clean and straightforward design. It’s made to function with small form-factor enclosures and boards.

The fan this cooler uses is the Noctua NFB9 PWM with an SSO bearing. Its maximum rotational speed is 1,600 RPM (+/- 10%) while its minimum rotational speed is 300 RPM (PWM, +/-20%). Noctua has teamed up with Louqe for the release of its latest cooler, the NH-L12 Ghost S1 Edition, and as the name suggests it’s designed to fit perfectly into the Ghost S1 chassis. Inside, you’ll find the NFB9 PWM premium fan, NA-RC7 Low Noise Adaptor, and NT-H2 thermal compound. Aside from these, you’ll find the SecuFirm2 mounting kit and a metallic case badge. Additionally, the NH-L12 Ghost S1 Edition has an excellent build quality that is on par with Noctua’s NH-D15. Its cooling fins are straight and solid with a uniform surface and smooth edges. With that, we can claim that it’s safe to use and is long-lasting, like what the company claims. Improved features: MkIII cases come with a new ultra smooth surface treatment, redesigned blade and grill, and with our next-generation COBALT Gen4+ PCI-e 4.0 16x twin axial 260mm vertical mount riser cable. As you can see from the table and from the photos below, the NH-C14S is not such a low cooler. It can be described as low-profile only with one eye shut. However, if its fan is placed under the heatsink, its total height is 115 millimeters. It is therefore still significantly lower than most conventional tower coolers. Nevertheless, its overall dimensions are not negligible and should be taken into account when choosing a suitable combination of cooler and case. The NH-L12 Ghost S1 Edition comes in your regular-sized cardboard box. We liked that it’s tough enough to keep the cooler protected while in transit. Before we focus on the specifications, remember that the NH-L12 is a low-profile cooler made for small form-factor cases. It’s also for HTPC environments. The answer to demand is supply, which brings us to the new NH-L12 Ghost S1 Edition. It’s essentially a re-release of the NH-L12 as a true single-fan cooler, as only the lower 92mm fan is included. As far as we can tell from the specs, neither the copper and aluminium heatsink nor the 92mm fan (NF-B9 PWM) has changed, but if there’s any company that can safely follow the mantra of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’, it’s probably Noctua. The 92mm NFB9 fan supports PWM, allowing automated speed control via the motherboard. It delivers full performance under heavy load while being silent during idle mode.
