Kokushibo · Doma · Akaza · Nakime · Hantengu · Gyokko · Gyutaro · Daki · Kaigaku · Enmu · Rokuro · Wakuraba · Mukago · Rui · Kamanue · Kyogai As fans like you may have noticed, there are kanji characters written on Giyu’s sword that seem to match the ones we see on other hashira’s swords. These symbols translate roughly to “Destroy all evil demons” as explained by the village swordsmith in the manga. All of the demon slayers have this written into their blades. Giyu's surname contains the Kun'yomi reading of the kanji for "wealth" ( 冨 ( とみ ) , tomi ?) and "knoll" ( 岡 ( おか ) , oka ?). His first name contains the Go-on'yomi reading for "righteousness, justice" ( 義 ( ぎ ) , gi ?) and "bravery, heroism" ( 勇 ( ゆう ) , yū ?).

Fifth Form: Blessed Rain After the Drought ( 伍 ( ご ) ノ 型 ( かた ) 干 ( かん ) 天 ( てん ) の 慈 ( じ ) 雨 ( う ) , Go no kata: Kanten no Jiu ?) [32] - The user changes the grip on their sword and decapitates the opponent in a single flowing strike that causes little to no pain. It is a “sword strike of kindness” used when the enemy willingly surrenders. Kagaya Ubuyashiki · Amane Ubuyashiki · Hinaki Ubuyashiki · Nichika Ubuyashiki · Kiriya Ubuyashiki · Kuina Ubuyashiki · Kanata Ubuyashiki To himself) " I really don't want to draw my sword. And I don't like to fight anyone for amusement. But now, for the first time in a long while, I'm up against a strong opponent who can overwhelm me and I realize that my senses have been sharply honed in a short time. Senses that were closed off to me have been awakened and dragged out to the place where my strong opponent stands. Now I understand how the intense struggle to survive increases in one's skills." [46] The Tomioka Giyu sword is simply called the Blue Nichirin Blade. This follows the blade color based naming convention that the hashira use for their swords. Though we don’t see how Giyu acquired his sword in the anime the way Tanjirou does, we can assume that the process is the same for him and other hashiras like Shinazugawa Sanemi and Kanroji Mitsuri. 2. Fourth Form: Striking Tide ( 肆 ( し ) ノ 型 ( かた ) 打 ( う ) ち 潮 ( しお ) , Shi no kata: Uchishio ?) [31] - The user makes multiple consecutive slashes while twisting their body and sword in a flowing fashion to deliver multiple blows simultaneously. Tactical Intellect: Giyu always remains calm and composed and focuses on analyzing situations and reacting accordingly. When Giyu fought Tanjiro he was able to immediately understand Tanjiro’s strategy with his hidden hatchet throw. Giyu also shows good survival skills, after fighting Akaza and bleeding profusely Giyu made a fire and heated his sword to cauterize his and Tanjiro’s wounds. Against Muzan, while Tanjiro tried to fight head on, Giyu advised the strategy of stalling and wasting time until allies arrived. One Piece’s Zoro may be known for his plethora of anime swords that are based on the katana, but the Demon Slayer swords pay their own respects to Japan’s culture of samurai sword making. Ever since Kimetsu no Yaiba emerged as the hottest shonen anime of the 2020s, fans have been cosplaying its hashiras and carrying replica katanas to cons. Among the most popular characters is Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira who wields a nichirin blade and uses it in combination with his Water Breathing style.

Giyu Tomioka · Mitsuri Kanroji · Obanai Iguro · Sanemi Shinazugawa · Gyomei Himejima · Kyojuro Rengoku · Tengen Uzui · Muichiro Tokito · Shinobu Kocho · Kanae Kocho · Sakonji Urokodaki · Jigoro Kuwajima · Shinjuro Rengoku Ninth Form: Splashing Water Flow ( 玖 ( く ) ノ 型 ( かた ) 水 ( すい ) 流 ( りゅう ) 飛沫 ( しぶき ) , Ku no kata: Suiryū Shibuki ?) [36] - The user changes their footwork in a way that minimizes the landing time and surface needed when landing, allowing the user to move without limits. Ideal when fighting in a place with no solid foothold.Sixth Form: Whirlpool: The user fiercely twists their upper and lower body, creating a whirlpool of air that cuts anything caught in it. Its effect and efficiently is enhanced underwater, where the user can draw water around their weapon to enhance their slashes. To himself, regarding Sabito and Tsutako) " Why did I forget that exchange with Sabito? It's important. I didn't want to remember because my tears would never stop. When I did remember, I was so sad I couldn't do anything. Tsutako. Sabito. I'm sorry I'm so immature." [44] While he’s definitely the quiet type compared to the likes of Rengoku Kyojuro, Inosuke Hashibira, and Agatsuma Zenitsu, Tomioka Giyu and his sword still have a lot to say about themselves and the world of Demon Slayer. 1. Giyu’s Sword Is Called the Blue Nichirin Blade Giyu's haori was almost torn to shreds after the decisive battle against Muzan, however, Nezuko managed to restore most of it with her craftsmanship and sewing. Giyu was so moved by this that he sent her so many different gifts (kimonos, Western clothes, hair ornaments, etc.), which caused Zenitsu to consider him a potential love rival. [41]
