About this deal

Finish: Most of the finish was medium in length. A hint of wood was accompanied by apple cider, brown sugar, clove, and banana. What lasted much longer was toffee. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. On the whole, it’s an interesting spirit that, for the most part, opens up some curious mixing possibilities.

Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve - distiller

In 2019, two in every three visitors to Scotch whisky distilleries or their visitors centres were international visitors (SWA, 2019). So, did they come to see Scotland, and whisky is a part of that? Or have they come for the golden liquid, and the country is just the place that makes it? But, after several years of the world being in a rather “staycation” lead model, those visiting figures have been down recently. On a beautiful day last year I drove through to Glenfiddich distillery. Now, if you’ve been before you will know that the place has a pretty large car park… with only seven cars in it! The same day I stopped at Glen Livet; I was the only car there! Whiskybase B.V. is the Dutch private limited liability company, having its statutory seat in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and its office at Zwaanshals 530, 3035 KS Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Whiskybase B.V. is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under no. 52072819. The sting of not enjoying this bottle is lessened by the fact that I got it as part of my Flaviar Subscription. Sunk cost fallacy aside I can convince myself it was “free”. So there’s that.

The palate is quite rummy, with a strong butterscotch note, plus elements of coconut, tiki spices, and honey grahams. There’s a light lemon influence, layered atop a significant base of grainy malt — this is a young whiskey, but it’s not too young. The finish is quite sweet and buttery, with lingering honey notes, some cloves, and cinnamon. So, Scotland’s visiting tourists impact heavily on the Scotch whisky industry, and as a product Scotch whisky hits heavily on the world’s trading market, so really my opening sentence should not have been a question but a statement of fact: Scotland makes and sells the stuff, and because of that, people visit.

The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve (image via Whisky Kirk) Tasting Notes: The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve It is winter, I’m sat with a dram by the log burner, curled up on a large old leather chair, probably allowing the Laphroiag in the glass to do much of the thinking… and whilst I think that – although a perhaps confusing entry to this article – most readers would be able to grasp what I mean. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.Without further ado, it is time to dissect this whisky and discover what Caribbean Reserve is all about. Nose: Distinctive Glenlivet notes of green apple, hay, butterscotch, and white tea. There’s also an extra layer of aroma that could be called tropical: maybe coconut, raw sugarcane, and dried pineapple. Pleasant, but light. Whisky is important to Scotland; it is a large part of the Scottish culture. If you were asked to name five things about Scotland, would Scotch be in there? I’m going to prejudge the whole world and say, “Yes!” Fine, my target audience is somewhat leaning towards the alcoholic beverage side of the country already, but I think even outside of this space it would still edge towards the high end of folks’ lists.

Review: The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve - Drinkhacker Review: The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve - Drinkhacker

To create whisky with a tropical feel, our makers finished a portion of our smooth whisky in barrels that previously held Caribbean rum. The result is a well balanced and exceptionally smooth whisky. Single malt, meet summer." - The Glenlivet Nose: Initial notes of honeydew melon, vanilla, orange marmalade, grassy, herbal. Slight hints of overcooked pear. Tropical and refreshing nose that betrays signs of youth with notes of cereal grains and wet hay. Nose: I expected rum notes to dominate. They didn't. Instead, it was very malt-forward, with undertones of honey, orange citrus, and apple cider. When I took the vapor into my mouth, vanilla and brown sugar slid across my tongue. Oh right. I really wanted to like this one… especially since I was so pleasantly surprised by the Cognac Cask from Glenlivet. Without prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. We shall make reasonable efforts to inform you of any unavailability due to maintenance or updates.Bottle, Bar, or Bust: What will Caribbean Reserve not do? If you're looking for something to compete with, say, The Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask, this will fall short. It is also obviously younger. But, Caribbean Reserve is also more than half the price. What this will provide is an affordable, tasty, whisky that performs as advertised - an easy-sipping Scotch to be enjoyed on a hot, summer's day. I'll give it a Bottle rating, I believe it is worth that. Cheers! No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service.
