Try to beat your score each time to add a little pressure to your game. The best score you can get is 9 if you one putt everything and the average score is 18 if you 2 putt everything. So try to get 18 your first time playing this game and then work down from there aiming for 17, 16, 15, and so on. Make sure you’re moving around each time to different holes and different distances away from the edge of the green.

It challenges you to control your putting distance so that you leave yourself room for each following putt to beat the previous. If you make the first putt from 80 feet away, you can’t really beat that! This chipping drill takes place around the practice putting green and will require the wedge you use for chipping and your putter. It will train you to live with the consequence of a bad chip and will let you experience the reward of chipping the ball to within gimme range of the hole. Hit a few and take note of how far past – or short of – the hole the ball rolls. As a baseline, a pitching wedge should produce a shot that spends roughly half the distance in the air and half the distance rolling.

Sometimes the right chip shot isn’t always to get the ball airborne for as long as possible so that it lands as close to the pin as possible. Remember that the intention is for the ball to roll, so you need to decide on the spot where you want it to land. Notice how drastically easier it is to convert your ‘par’ when the ball is within gimme range. Aim to reward yourself with such a small putt distance every time you chip when you are playing on the course. These are general guidelines, and each golfer has a unique style. What is important is that you find what works best for you and practice until your distance and direction are consistent. How To Get Better At Chipping Like your putting stroke, a good chipping stroke will require your arms to stay relatively intact and quiet during the motion. Think about your arms and shoulders forming a triangle: Your goal is to keep that triangle intact while it moves throughout your motion.Hit some chip shots with that club and again aim to see the ball landing at the marker before rolling on the short rest of the way.

No matter how well you hit the ball there are times during your golf round where you will miss the green and find your ball only a chip shot away from the putting surface. Getting up and down through a nice chip that puts you in a position to easily one-putt is a great recipe for saving par when you do miss the green. If you are a good chipper, and you miss the green, you have the confidence to make up for a missed shot.

10 Short Game Drills for Improving Quicker

Letting your wrists hinge slightly will increase the loft and distance of your shots, sending the ball a little higher and rolling nicely after landing. You can create your own mini 9 hole course to play against friends by moving the chipping mat around to different distances and angles from the target.
