Michael's concerns about balance and contrast while also probably coming down closer to Randy's overall assessment of the image. I have long stated Again, I haven't seen the disc as I don't own it (hush, Goodfella's ain't anywhere near the top of my fave gangster pics....... ) and I'm not trying to rag on the kit involved (again, the above review is massively favourable). But with these new UHDs the benefits have the potential to be so incremental that we could very well have such small issues like the calibration on a specific TV being the difference between a 'good disc' and a 'not so good disc'. This was one of WBs first catalogue UHDs and as we all know from bitter experience, PQ on discs get better as new tech and compression techniques allow the discs to get crammed more and more as time goes, giving us much better PQ - so this may very well suffer from 'early adopters' syndrome, again as with any tech/video technology - how many HD versions of things like The Fifth Element did we get before we got a great image? glory days, but until then it's a helluva ride—and Scorsese makes it so exhilarating that it's just him feel more vital and alive, but it has also isolated him, disconnecting him from the rest of the

The Scorsese masterpiece flaunts its stuff with a strong HEVC H.265 encode in HDR10 made from the same 4K remaster of the original elements used for last year's 25th Anniversary Blu-ray. Although the results don't quite compare to other Ultra HD releases, the presentation showcases several notable improvements though the upgrade is pretty minor and subtle. believe that the colors of the 2007 release were accurate. too loud so that they break through and grab the viewer's attention, other effects that linger in the Getting Made (SD, 30 min) — This making-of piece features interviews with cast and crew talking about the production and how the film came to be made. There is a great deal of talk on casting the roles and having to work with the legendary director. After listening to the first audio commentary, much of the information shared by everyone feels like a repeat. Still, it's a good, entertaining piece. Schoonmaker, writer Nicholas Pileggi, and actors Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco, Paul Sorvino, and Frank Vincent. I’ll defend @RayP up to a point. Compared to say Blade Runner UHD or ET etc Goodfellas is not a stellar UHD. It seems to have been released a dozen times on DVD and Blu-ray, but in reality it's probably less than half that in various incarnations and permutations.

Plot: What’s it about? Video: How’s it look? Audio: How’s it sound? Supplements: What are the extras? The Bottom Line Plot: What’s it about? Henry Hill might be a small time gangster, who may have taken part in a robbery with Jimmy Conway and Tommy De Vito, two other gangsters who might have set their sights a bit higher. His two partners could kill off everyone else involved in the robbery, and slowly start to think about climbing up through the hierarchy of the Mob. Henry, however, might be badly affected by his partners' success, but will he consider stooping low enough to bring about the downfall of Jimmy and Tommy? While I don't find it to be, as Roger Ebert phrased it, "The best mob movie ever made," it's right up their at the pinnacle of the mount. I love this film.

Made Men: The Goodfellas Legacy– This tells how the movie has inspired some of today’s younger directors, among them: Jon Faverau, Antoine Fuqua, Richard Linklater and Frank Darabont. They tell of how brutally realistic the movie was and how it ushered in a new wave of how to make films. So in Predator case it’s not going to be up there with the best new UHD transfers, but compared to the last Blu Ray it’s a revelation. In the case of Goodfellas it might just they ran out of picture quality and it’s alao going the be the best it’s ever going to look. While the film itself is an undisputed classic, in this particular instance, Warner Brothers' own 4K release was met with some considerable of Henry Hill's life as a gangster, or, as Scorsese puts it in the letter accompanying this new Blu-ray release, of a life that might "spin out of control at First thing to take note of is the fact the movie has never been much of a looker to begin with. Michael Ballhaus's cinematography has always been on the flat side with a somewhat controlled, slightly toned down palette. Primaries are accurately rendered, especially reds and blues, but they're not much brighter or vibrant than what's seen on the Blu-ray. Earth tones, yellows and browns are more natural looking and a bit bolder than before while the few splatters of magentas, purples, pinks and golds are more colorful, giving the gaudy 1970s clothing, furniture and kitschy décor a true-to-life glow.

Gossip has it that Goodfellas, a pseudo-serious, very dark, mob comedy, released in 1990 may be way better than sliced bread.

that I am not always a fan of how shot on film productions tend to look in the increased resolution of 4K, and that's once again the case with this Scorsese's 'GoodFellas' (HD, 30 min) — Produced and directed by Brett Ratner, this recently-made but short retrospective is essentially a collection of interviews with various cast and crew. Discussions range from particular behind-the-scenes tidbits to technical details of the production, but everyone shares various memories and anecdotes, which are insightful and make this short doc worth watching. Other actors also participate basically to praise Scorsese's work. Now, silently commemorating it's 26th Anniversary, Warner Bros. has raised the bar from Blu-ray to 4k UHD, along with HDR, and the result is both interesting, as well as telling, as it gives us a very good idea of precisely how good the last BD release was. This release also includes two Blu-rays from the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray release. One featuring the film in 1080p, and the other containing a set of extras: DISC ONE – 4K MOVIE

I have only seen Arrival on Sky so can’t comment on dark presentation of HDR. I’ve seen Jaws so many times I’ve lost count. I have the Blu-ray and it’s a good transfer. Doubt I’ll pay for the 4K. Cast and Crew Commentary features director Martin Scorsese, producers Irwin Winkler and Barbara DeFina, editor ThelmaThe Film Vault is obviously gearing these releases toward serious collectors, in terms of offering a unified appearance and the same sort of Made Men: The Goodfellas Legacy (SD, 14 min) — This short segment reveals the film's immense influence on modern filmmakers like Jon Favreau, Joe Carnahan, Richard Linklater, The Hughes Brothers, Antoine Fuqua, and Frank Darabont. Many of the comments are mostly surface level thoughts, but it's great listening to these directors offer their take on a Scorsese classic. Warner Bros has brought Goodfellas to UHD with a great transfer and a decent amount of extras, all of which have been carried over from previous releases, though the accompanying booklet and letter with Scorsese’s signature from the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray is notably absent. A few new things could have been added to spice things up, including the film’s marketing campaign, but as is, this is still a nice Ultra HD upgrade. An example is De Niro's portrayal of Jimmy Conway. His outward persona is that of a calm and reasonable nature. But really he is a paranoid killer who at the drop of a hat would kill even his closest associates for money. I use associates rather than friends, as their relationships are of tolerance rather than kinship. Distrust, hate and jealousy through the forced smiles. controversy (what else is new in the wild and wooly world of home theater aficionados?), and that may make this choice a bit on the risky side for The
