Albus Dumbledore fighting the Inferi inside the cave in 1997 Type: Charm Description: Produces a ring of fire from the wand. Seen/Mentioned: Albus Dumbledore used this spell to rescue Harry from Inferi in 1997. ( Flagrante Curse)

Yes, this book is filled to the brim, but it isn't just a list of spells. Oh no. Almost all the spells have a pronunciation, when/where it was used (and this ranges from the books to the movies to the games (even the trading card game)), a what it does field (handy to know), and there is some extra trivia listed which I just loved to read. Then, to make it more personal, there are things scrawled near some of the spells or magical objects, listing why something wasn't a good idea, give us some more insight, and more. Charms require precise wand movements, correct pronunciation, and absolute concentration to be successful. One of these is the Expecto Patronum (did you know that can defend against creatures but also can send messages?).

What I appreciated about this is that for the longest time I had no idea what the difference was between a spell and a charm. Or between a hex, jinx, or cures. The book delineates all of these as well as describes what each spell does and where the spell is referenced in teh either the books or the games. Achievements in Charming · Extreme Incantations · Quintessence: A Quest · The Standard Book of Spells Seen/Mentioned: Used by Horace Slughorn, cast upon Marcus Belby when the latter choked on a pheasant in 1996.Come on Harry! I can't think about anything else with her strutting around in those clothes!' Ron pleaded, trying to force Harry to run up to his room and find a suitable spell for the situation. Dopo una breve ma sufficiente introduzione al mondo delle Bacchette (ottenuta tenendo conto di vari elementi tratti sia dai libri che dal sito di Pottermore), il libro ci introduce agli Incantesimi veri e propri e quindi li elenca spiegandone effetti, mostrando la formula corretta da pronunciare e il movimento della Bacchetta da accompagnare per eseguirlo.

The Unofficial Ultimate Harry Potter Spellbook" collects all of the spells used in the book series, the Lego games, as well as the computer/phone games. They are divided into sections for spells & charms, transfiguration, and Hexes, Jinxes, and Curses. The final section is for magical items. Seen/Mentioned: Used (to no avail) in 1993 by Hermione Granger to attempt to reveal any hidden writing in a diary. Etymology: Possibly a hybrid of Latin words aqua, which means "water", and menti, which means "for the mind". Generally speaking, jinxes are annoying, hexes are a little more annoying and curses are the darkest forms of magic. For me, the most interesting mentioned is the one Hermione did, which causes pimples that spell SNEAK across the face of the traitor of Dumbledore’s Army. This jinx is extremely powerful, as neither Madam Pomfrey nor Dolores Umbridge can reverse it.Description: Reveals secret messages written in invisible ink, or any other hidden markings. Also works against Concealing charms

Each spell is given its entry, including the name, pronunciation, and etymology, a description of the spell effect, appropriate wand movements, and explanatory notes. Fun facts about each spell are also included, such as who it was used against, what happened, or its exciting history. There are also handwritten comments scattered throughout for observant readers.

DIY Harry Potter Book of Spells

[13] Anteoculatia Type: Dark charm Pronunciation: an-tee-oh-kyoo-LAY-chee-ah Description: Causes the target to grow antlers. [10] Seen/Mentioned: This spell was used to make Pansy Parkinson grow antlers in 1996. [11] ( Anti-Cheating Spell) Type: Charm Description: Used to prevent cheating. Seen/Mentioned: These spells were used at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on writing quills and parchment to prevent students from cheating during their final exams, as well as their O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s. ( Anti-Disapparition Jinx) Type: Jinx Description: Prevents Disapparation in an area. It is used to entrap an enemy in an area. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Albus Dumbledore to trap some Death Eaters in the Department of Mysteries in 1996. Also mentioned that nobody can disapparate from Hogwarts; it is due to this jinx. ( Anti-intruder jinx) Type: Jinx Description: Prevents intruders from entering an area. Seen/Mentioned: It was placed on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1996 for extra protection during an invasion of Death Eaters. ( Antonin Dolohov's curse) Type: Curse Description: An unknown curse that causes injuries that are capable of killing with enough power. Seen/Mentioned: Used by Antonin Dolohov during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries twice; Dolohov was under a Silencing Charm, and thus weakened the effects of this curse, saving Hermione from death, but incapacitated her and required her to take ten potions a day for some time. Aparecium (Revealing Charm) Type: Charm We can't… I just don't have enough time… I've only got a few more hours before the Second Task begins' Harry replied, clearly fighting the urge to risk his survival with another opportunity to split Hermione in half. For each spell, I also included pronunciations, a common name, and what the spells are used for. The end of the book has extra information and terminology relating to spells. There is also room for you to add your own spells. I Illegibilus Type: Charm Pronunciation: i-LEDJ-i-bull-is Description: Makes writing impossible to read. Immobulus (Freezing Charm) Type: Charm Pronunciation: ih-MOH-byoo-luhs Description: Immobilises and stops the actions of the target. It works both on living and inanimate things. Seen/Mentioned: Hermione used it 1992 to freeze two Cornish Pixies. [51] Horace Slughorn used Freezing Charms to disable a Muggle Burglar Alarm. [52] Etymology: From the Latin “immobilis”, meaning immovable. Impedimenta (Impediment Jinx) Type: Jinx Pronunciation: im-ped-ih-MEN-tah Description: Slows down or stops the target. Seen/Mentioned: Used in 1995 when Harry was practising for the Third Task of the Triwizard Tournament. In 1996, Harry saw in a memory that James Potter used it on Severus Snape. Also used in 1997 by Harry against the Inferi and Snape. Stronger uses of this spell seem capable of blowing targets away. Etymology: Latin impedimentum (plural impedimenta), "a hindrance" or "an impediment". Imperio (Imperius Curse)
