The supernatural elements in this book where well done and they didn’t feel like they were done out of convenience. I earned my reputation among magicians for a reason: one wrong move and you're dead. Killer, they called me, and killing is what I'm best at. Through Rae’s relationship with Leon, certain information about Hell is available to the reader, and that shows that the world building has potential to be expanded upon. But when she accidentally summons a demon and gets chased by monsters and people alike, she finds out that she was meant for something else.

There were certain limits to this world building. The reader doesn’t get to explore much outside the information that is available to Rae, but that’s what makes the plot line interesting. This isn't just romance - Leon is hunting Rae for the culty family he serves (against his will). This book is equal parts sexy and terrifying with an almost Lovecraftian mythology that I absolutely loved. These demons aren't just for the swoons, there is actual horror in Her Soul to Take and that is definitely my jam. Three people from families who have received the mark of an old God so that their sacrifices can be returned to him. All I know is my one shot at survival is the demon stalking me, and he doesn’t just want my body – he wants my soul. ☾ the important charactersI’m used to Harley writing books that are about one tenth of the size of this one, so my demands for more have finally been met. Abelaum is a sleepy Gothic small town that houses a wealthy family, a cult and an Eld god in its old mines. The fact that the demon she accidentally summoned is a quite attractive man with the tendency to make Rae’s blood boil in the best way doesn’t really help with that.

And the smut … well, I don’t want to spoil any of the scenes, but a lot of them made me go “Oh, I want what she has!”– aloud.Leon leaves his old master when he finds out that the human woman he’s had his eyes on is supposed to be the last sacrifice to an Eld and makes it his life’s mission to protect her. While reading, I was definitely reminded of Mystic Falls (The Vampire Diaries), Forks (Twilight) and Gatlin (Beautiful Creatures), so if you like books that seem to have a depressed blue tint on them (in a good way), Her Soul To Take is definitely the book for you.Again, if you love The Vampire Diaries, Twilight and Beautiful Creatures, the setting is for you, and the smut will not disappoint. The setting was beautiful and it reminded me of some of my favorite books with supernatural elements. For a while, Kent Hadleigh misuses his power over Leon to sacrifice a man to the Eld in the mines, but then his children Victoria and Jeremiah attempt to finish the job for him. ☾ the world building
