For their price they are excellent quality and if you are looking for a good boot for hiking Britain in all weathers I cannot fail to recommend them. It is very difficult to find a boot that is comfortable without rubbing from the outset, full marks to Hi-Tec for this. The ankle is cut quite high for a fast and light boot, measuring about 6 inches from the insole to the top of the collar, and this gives a decent amount of support without feeling too constricting.

I found these to be great ‘on and go boots’, no stiffness or rubbing from the outset. These were to be tested through the Winter too so I was going to give them a good testing that is for sure. Ok, they went through streams, over the Yorkshire 3 peaks, up mountains and on as many dog walks that makes me lose count. Plenty of them muddy and wet. These boots are still going strong after a full season and still wear them daily in the great outdoors.

There is some branding on the side and the tongue, but the rest is a pretty clean dark brown leather. Absolutely zilch nasty chemicals have been used in its creation. What we’re specifically referring to are those PFCs or perfluorinated compounds, which have been proven to be environmentally hazardous. Plenty of brands have stopped using these in the water repellent treatment that’s applied to the outer fabrics of their footwear – the DWR that makes water bead off – but not many have taken the extra step of removing all the nasty stuff contained in the waterproof membrane as well. Haglöfs have removed the lot here so kudos to them for doing that. The collar, the tongue, and the inner parts of the boot are comfy too, with extra padding for podiatry support.
