Description

Working with ADHD children and adolescents for ten years in private practice, Sarah has seen first-hand the road from ‘stroppy kid’ via ‘naughty teen’ to ‘young offender’ and is committed to helping teachers understand their ADHD students before things get out of hand. Sarah is an English Qualified Counsellor, CBT Therapist and Coach. She has written this book after working with hundreds of ADHD parents who have told her “If ONLY I’d known all this stuff while they were growing up”. An insightful, sensitive portrayal of children who need help—and how to help them.” —Myrna B. Shure Sarah is now passionate about helping teachers identify and work with these conditions in the classroom. Children who are not diagnosed and treated for their neurodiverse conditions often have a dismal time at school: they know they feel different and don’t fit in, but they don’t understand why. This can lead them to experiment with drugs or alcohol and fall so easily into a life of addiction, unemployment, homelessness or crime. Find out where your child’s ADHD came from. Find out about the three different kinds of ADHD. Discover the 30 or more ADHD traits nobody ever told you about. Learn how to best handle situations you may well find yourself in with your ADHD child. Hear real-life examples where therapeutic strategies and different ways of doing things have turned ADHD houses of horror into oases of calm and serenity.

This book is written by Sarah Templeton who is a therapist and has ADHD herself (diagnosed at 51). She has worked with hundreds of parents of ADHD children. This book has a very easy-to-use format and allows you to skip to chapters that are relevant to you and your family. It had been recommended by ADHD psychiatrists, paediatricians, parents, teachers, SEN teachers and ADHD teens. It’s for anyone that lives with, teaches, cares for or encounters a child with ADHD.

Sarah is an expert in all things ADHD. She works so successfully with ADHD clients because she understands the condition from the inside out” Dr Belda, ADHD Psychiatrist It avoids all the unnecessary detailed neuroscience and focuses on what it’s actually like to live with or have ADHD. This is an important and much-needed book! Wise, practical, and reassuring.” —Jane M. Healy, Ph.D., author ofEndangered MindsandDifferent Learners I am a mom of an ADHD kid that is significantly impacted. He is honest to a fault and doesn't have violent outbursts. And he's the oldest so that means younger siblings. When he gets mad he says "Ugh! I'm so mad right I need to go sit down in my room!" If you are in any doubt that your child has ADHD then this book is absolutely essential. You will have your answer after chapter 7 believe me.

In this book you will find out about the three different types of ADHD, discover ALL the ADHD traits - from the obvious to the obscure - most of which nobody told you about, whether or not you’re ADHD yourself and how to handle 30+ situations you will find yourself in at home. To give this review some relevance I’m a 44 year old father and I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 32. My youngest daughter (9) has ADHD, in fact this book could have been written for her! Now all this information IS in one place. In an easy to read format. Skip straight to whatever issue you’re struggling with right now! Space to make notes at the end of each chapter and real life examples, straight from Sarah‘s therapy room, of what works, what doesn’t and why. This comes about through them understanding their ADHD and knowing that they can use their drive, passion for winning and not liking being told what to do to achieve hugely in life.Sarah has worked in 4 English Prisons and Young Offender Units and been dismayed at the number of diagnosed but more often undiagnosed ADHD kids who end up behind bars. Personally, this is my favourite so far. I think it’s brilliant. Probably because I like humour to get through my day and this has loads of that. The insight that she has from having ADHD herself really helps to put the points across. This is my new go-to book for sure. It fits with my gentle parenting approach apart from the reward system idea but that in itself has encouraged me to think and challenge my existing parenting beliefs – actually if my little one has ADHD then he may struggle with intrinsic motivation (as pushed by gentle parenting) and might well need more extrinsic support, eg rewards. I know I do far better chasing a reward / goal in life, and I can set my own but little dude doesn’t have those skills yet. I found this book really useful. Because my daughter has ADHD and ODD, explosive is the exact word I would use for her! The book breaks down an ADHD child’s behaviours in a very logical and understandable way. It explains that rather than seeing your child as misbehaving, view more that they simply haven’t developed the skills yet to deal with that particular situation. This book guides you on how. It was an eye-opener. The book helping support parents with childern of ADHD, was released in April 2021. Subsequently, the ADHD book has immediately resonated with parents not only in Britain but worldwide. It has been selling like hotcakes ever since. ABOUT THE BOOK
