Action Girl: The biggest one in the series, if somewhat off-screen. She saw 7 years of brutal combat and survived, though not in one piece. It was amazing! Watching the main cast grow and overcome their own fears and anxieties, while pushing themselves to be stronger and better than they were, was simply great. Not many books focus that much on the character development, rather they let the story and intrigue carry poor character design. Lady of War: She retired from the SCT pro circuit to go to the front lines of the war with the Archons. She was there for 7 years, ranking up and earning an officer’s commission. Notably, she wants more powerful users on the front lines instead of in in the Pros. The Iron Fey has mild violence but no curse words. Some explicit content is present but there’s nothing not present in the regular YA. The Iron Fey is recommended for ages 12 and up. More Books Like The Iron Fey Series After Rei gets his CAD the Growth S is very secret, so people that don't know about it largely have understandable and reasonable reactions to Rei. They are under the impression that the CAD was wasted on a bad choice leading to a permanently weak and worthless soldier. When he also gets into a prestigious school many students assume that in addition to that he is taking up an even more precious Academy slot for some sort of political reason (the older students that know the Academy better figure something is up, but at this school older students appear to have basically zero interaction with freshmen in any way whatsoever, so that doesn't matter). The issue is that some of the people in the know are very stupid with this information.

Promoted Fanboy: In universe. He's a huge SCT fanboy and gets to live his dream fighting in the SCTs. TLDR: Overall I liked it a lot, good characters, interesting mechanics, interesting setting. It's only one book, but it's a really long one, longer than the first three Cradle books put together. The story isn't even close to over, but it doesn't end on a cliffhanger either. On the other hand the setting makes some of the tropes (like the scorned MC whose obvious value is unappreciated) seem out of place, I also think that taking some more space for world building to flesh out the setting a bit more would have been beneficial. The Iron Knight is a very touching encounter of Ash’s adventures, when bound by an oath to never enter the Iron realm, he becomes desperate. Forbidden by Meghan to ever put his foot in her kingdom, he seeks Grimalkin, the cait sithe, and pleads for a way out of his vow.

Julie Kagawa’s writing doesn’t disappoint! Iron Fey is told in first-person narratives, mostly of Meghan, and the writing is elaborate enough to paint a vivid picture in the reader’s mind. There are plenty of action scenes and those are described well too. One of the things that this book does well is having characters on a pretty diverse spectrum of inherent reasonableness and especially the amount of information they actually have on Rei. For example, prior to getting his suit he was judged by his physical fitness because physical fitness is implied to be hugely necessary in getting a good CAD bind. There are only so many of these CADs made every year, and people that are not the MC don't have the ability to attain infinite cosmic power regardless of initial starting strength, so wanting people to be in peak physical condition makes sense. Rei's CAD specifically is the result of a nebulous and unexplained "experiment". So, about this powerful Ubersuit that the MC has. CADs go from F0 all the way to S in their individual stats. When someone initially gets a CAD hopefully they'll be at least in the high Es, being in the low D's means you have an actual shot of getting into the really good Academies. Being in the high D's means you are right around the best of the 18 year olds. After you graduate hopefully you'll be in the decent Bs (this part I'm more guessing on because while they talk a lot about initial specs in general the talk about later specs is all specifically in the context of the elite Academy they are a part of) but if you want to be elite enough to play sports all day instead of dying on the front-line you'll need to be very high-B or low A. You increase by putting in tons of hard work, but the effectiveness of this is governed by your Growth Stat. A Normal person's Growth stat will start at that normal E to D range and pretty much stay there for their entire career, while all their other stats go up to (hopefully) Bs, As, or even S. Big Brother Mentor: To a degree, for Rei. He's just as excited for Rei's growth as anyone else is. He also takes time out of his schedule to train Rei beyond what Valera asked him to do. then finally sitting down to bang out Stormweaver II: Ironer Princerer (official title, obviously) in the second half of the year to get it out for Christmas or, worst case, Q1 2022.

Iron Prince What have you people done to me. I just finished Iron Prince

And can I tap into your book suggestive skills once more, what should I read next? I love the ostracized, underpowered, underdoggy, and seemingly weak MCs. Lindon and his journey was well crafted and I especially loved the 3rd party perspectives on just how much of a "monster" he became as the story went on. And The Iron Prince did something similar, ableit not as pronounced. And I'll save you some trouble and list out some of my favorites and already completed books.I was immediately drawn by the plot of Iron Fey Series. The story has a magical feel to it, and Kagawa has excelled at building the world of Iron Fey, which is amazingly new yet retaining the characteristic ‘cruel’ stroke of fey stories. Iron Fey’s plot is inspired heavily from Shakespeare’s ‘A Midnight Summer’s Dream‘ and many other fantasy classics, still it’s story seems fresh due to the concept of iron-resistant fey in it. The Writing Our main character (Rei) is a scrappy underdog who's incredibly, amazingly miserable childhood has given him an iron will and insane work ethic. He's also a genius. Unfortunately his crippled body has set him up for failure because in this universe where iron will, insane work ethic, and genius intellect are worth their weight in unobtanium, and physical weaknesses are trivially solved with fantastic technology and an insane work ethic... almost everyone judges each other immediately almost entirely based on physical strength? A third-year student who Valera asks to help train Rei and his friends, in return for giving him private training. He's an A-type like Rei and is already on his way to being one of the strongest combatants Galens has ever produced. The Nightmare King stirs. A world hangs in the balance. And as twilight descends upon all the realms of Faery, Meghan and her allies must make one more impossible choice.

So I just finished reading it. I thought it was good. As soon as you said there was a lot of crunchy combat I knew I wanted to get it on audiobook so I was disappointed when there wasn't an audio version available. I have a tendency to just skip to the end of parts like that out of sheer excitement to see what happens so I like to read books heavy with those scenes in an audio format so I just can't. I'll probably still get the book on audible when/if it comes out on there (I assume it will but you never know). To make things even worse, one of the Fey, the Forgotten Queen, is raising an army to declare war against the Summer and Winter courts. Leading the army is the Iron Prince, Kierran himself, who has betrayed his own family. The number 2 freshman in the school behind Aria. He and Rei don't really see eye to eye, to put it mildly. There is no Romance Sub Plot. The Primary Antagonist ends his last fight which he loses by asking if the main character is dating the two main female characters in the book. So Logan is not going around dating the best friend of the main character. Does she have a type that matches Logan? Yes is she pursuing him nope. Does it look like they will be a couple? Yes. She has an interest in him since he beat the crap out of the people who beat up the main character and is actively discouraging anyone from tryin that again. And the main character wants the former Primary Antagonist to join their team for the External School Tournament. Meta Power-Up: One of two things that set his CAD apart from the rest is his unique, S-ranked Growth spec. The Knights Who Say "Squee!": He fanboys over Valera Dent, The Lasher and Anatoly Sidorov the first time he sees them.

The biggest actual mistake in how fear of the aliens are portrayed is actually the students themselves. As mentioned, for reasons (revenue and research based) the top 20% or so of CAD soldiers live a life of fame and luxury as competitive athletes. The bottom 80% of the CAD soldiers are sent to the front-lines to be murdered by Space Robots (I am overstating the fatality rate on the front lines, I think, it's not really clear) so that humanity can build more space condos. The students know this, this is literally exactly what they signed up for. However the MC and his pals are repeatedly praised by their teachers for being practically the only students to use their mostly free afternoons and evenings to get an extra three hours of training by themselves done every day. Master Swordsman: He's a Saber type, so he's looking to become one. His technique is already noted to be excellent, and he's able to help give Rei a crash course in swordfighting when his ability Type Shift manifests. Renowned Selective Mentor: To The Lasher. In return for him helping Rei and the group, she agrees to help train him, as they are both A-Types. Impossibly Cool Clothes: His armor's externals, which allow him to float around in a way similar to Valera's, and which simply float around above him, unattached to anything. Now, I think the dialogue as a wholein this book is actually pretty strong. Characters come across as relatable but professional, motivated and educated, and convey their emotions clearly and believably. Ash was a marvelous sword-fighter but he had a shady personality in book#1. Fortunately for Ash, this didn’t stop me from liking him. Often regarded as the ‘cold’, ‘dark’ prince, sometimes he overstepped from his cold demeanor to become downright threatening– cautioning Meghan to stay away from him or else he would kill her– at which point Meghan’s yearning for him became annoying. His character seemed to be inspired by ‘Edward Cullen’ of the Twilight Saga. Badass Teacher: She’s an S-rank fighter and a beloved ex-pro. Every one of her students has a ton of respect for her.
