Toro had shown to heal some time later as his burns became darker and his distinct facial scar from Darius had healed. The use of Carnotaurus DNA to create the chimerid lineage beginning with Scorpios rex means that this dinosaur’s genes have become components in a new type of bioweapon, which has been bought and sold by non-governmental interests in potential violation of international and national laws. The exact legality of genetically engineering new genera for paramilitary purposes is brand-new and largely unprecedented, making it a difficult challenge for the often defunct laws that surround biological warfare. The Dinosaur Protection Group frequently used Carnotaurus imagery to garner public support for Isla Nublar’s dinosaur inhabitants. Three years later, a Carnotaurus was encountered by Claire Dearing's group, which had been sent to Isla Nublar to save the dinosaurs from the impending eruption of Mount Sibo. While one of the Carnotaurus was killed by Isla Nublar's T. rex, at least two individuals were successfully transported to the mainland. [5] The two Carnotaurus were subsequently released into the wilds of northern California along with all the other dinosaurs. [5] The horns are most likely used in courtship, as they are known to be used in social displays. The eggs of theropods are ovoid, like those of modern birds. Eggs belonging to medium-sized dinosaurs like Carnotaurus generally have incubation periods lasting for three to six months. Communication Carnotaurus announces its dominance over a hunting ground with a loud roar. A Carnotaurus was scripted to appear in Jurassic Park /// in a scene in which it would approach the characters while they were searching through spinosaur dung, roaring and charging at them but ultimately reacting to the smell in a disgusted manner. In the final film, this was replaced by a scene in which a Ceratosaurus approaches the group non-aggressively and is frightened away when it smells the spinosaur dung. Later on, if the viewer chooses to escape Hidden Adventure in the vehicle ride, Toro appears to challenge the Tarbosaurus to a fight. Their brawl will lead them inside the Hidden Adventure main area. The viewer can then choose for Darius to distract the dinosaurs, allowing the others to enter Hal Brimford's underground bunker. The distraction works long enough, and the campers escape, allowing the dinosaurs to continue their fight. Some time later, Toro tried to hunt Ben and Bumpy, as they were separated from the other campers at the time. As the episode progresses where Ben gains courage, he battles Toro with Bumpy, now a sub-adult, coming in recently, and they send him falling down a cliff. [7] While Toro wasn't killed by the fall, he was gravely injured.

Toro exhibited an unwavering determination to hunt down the campers, persistently pursuing them until he was ultimately defeated by their use of explosives, which caused him to injure himself. When Toro first encountered the campers, it is possible that he experienced significant pain upon seeing them. This encounter likely made him realize that the campers, as a collective group, possessed the ability to defend themselves. The Ingen Carnotaurus had a highly developed form of camouflage well beyond that of any other animal. It is never known if this is a natural feature or a product of genetic tampering. By changing of color of their scales the Carnotaurus could replicate complex patterns in the environment to such a degree that it made them extremity difficult to observe. They were nocturnal because their system of camouflage was most effective at night. Thanks to this ability they were expert ambush predators but were too slow to give chase to prey, relying on speed and the element of surprise to make a kill. The Carnotaurus was created using the 3D model that was created for 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom by Industrial Light & Magic, as well as audio files provided by Universal Pictures to create the most authentic representation of the dinosaur. [7] Its roars are similar to that of the Carnotaurus that appear in the movies, consisting of vocalizations from an orangutan and styrofoam with a double bass bow. In a collaboration commercial Jeep had with Jurassic World: Dominion, a completely original model of a hatchling Carnotaurus was used, alongside a juvenile and unscarred adult with the coloring of the scarred individual from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion despite no such animals appearing in the films. The Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Carnotaurus looks similar to the sideshow collectibles dinosauria version.

Due to its propensity to prey on and compete with dinosaurs that are larger than itself, Carnotaurus must be able to withstand serious physical hardship. Its armored body assists with this, as do its numerous physical adaptations to brawling. When entering into a dangerous situation, it will assess its opponent from a distance before charging in. During combat with prey or competitors, the Carnotaurus uses its jaws, strong legs, and speed to its advantage. They are capable of surviving serious injury and may be seen with heavy scarring. An extreme example can be observed in a specimen retrieved by Ken Wheatley, which shows damage to the left side of the skull in the form of a broken horn and large facial scars which appear to come from a spinosaur’s claws. In spite of these severe injuries, the animal was still in good health and capable of competing with a Tyrannosaurus rex for food sources. In an earlier script of The Lost World, some Carnotaurus would have appeared near a laboratory, presumably the infrastructure that later was adapted into the Workers’ Village. In an earlier script of Jurassic Park ///, an adult Carnotaurus would have appeared on the bank of Isla Sorna’s central channel in the southwestern region of the island. This role was eventually given to a Ceratosaurus. These deleted concepts and alternate scenes suggest that this dinosaur inhabited the central and western parts of Isla Sorna. Hypothetical range of C. sastrei on Isla Sorna between 1997 and 2001. It is revealed that there are surviving Carnotaurus populations remaining on Isla Nublar, but will now face an impending danger, alongside many other creatures, in the form of an erupting volcano. [8] By 2018, it was known that Carnotaurus was subject to cruelty at some point in the past, according to the DPG. [9]The horns of Carnotaurus look something like those of a bull - and like a bull, it may have used them in contests with others of its own species. In this way, two Carnotaurus could test each other's strength without either of them seriously injuring the other. [1] Had this been kept in however, Toro would be the only character from Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous to appear in a live-action film, as Scott already confirmed that none of the campers were going to make an appearance in Jurassic World: Dominion. Do not linger in its territory if you manage to stop it eating you. Running and hiding are your best options, and as with all large predators you are best off hiding in a tight space where it cannot reach. It is quite strong and more than willing to topple a vehicle, so sheltering in a building or crevice is a better idea. This is a determined predator, though, and you may have to hold out for quite a long time before it gives up trying to reach you. If you find yourself in the open and being chased down, there is still a possibility of survival. Carnotaurus is a speedy dinosaur and can easily outrun you, but it is terrible at cornering, so run in a zigzag pattern and make frequent sharp turns. It also has difficulty with obstacles at high speed, so use your environment to your advantage. Choose paths with fallen trees, large boulders, or artificial structures. It especially struggles going up and down stairs, which are built for human-sized feet rather than the longer strides of this dinosaur. Finally, while it is unbeatable on flat ground, recall its useless vestigial arms: Carnotaurus cannot climb one bit, so summon your inner ape and scale whatever high ground you can reach, the higher the better. Playing dead will not work because Carnotaurus habitually runs down and exhausts prey. If you drop down, it will assume you have tired out and are free for the eating. Behind the Scenes Carnotaurus has often found itself at the forefront of political debates. When it was first announced that Masrani Global had bred this dinosaur for Jurassic World, it reawakened the debate on whether genetic engineering, de-extinction, or cloning should be more heavily regulated or even banned. Some members of the public used it as an example of the practice of de-extinction having gone too far, while others such as Dr. Ian Malcolm denied that a ban would be effective and that it would be more realistic to prepare for the inevitable consequences of that science. The coloration of the two Carnotaurus in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom are likely influenced by the two Carnotaurus from the Jurassic Park toy line by Kenner. The first Carnotaurus has a color scheme that resembles the "Bonebreaker" from Series 1 of The Lost World, while the second Carnotaurus has a coloration that is nearly identical to the "Demon" from Series 2 of Jurassic Park.

Carnotaurus appears in the novelization of Jurassic Park III, though misspelled " Carnotosaurus", based off the film's original script. The original script for Jurassic Park III called for a Carnotaurus to approach Alan Grant, Paul Kirby, and Amanda Kirby on the river bank when searching through the Spinosaurus dung. However, due to the release of Disney's Dinosaur, the dinosaur was replaced by the Ceratosaurus. The junior novel Prey, which has not been reviewed by Universal Studios for film-canon status, shows three adult Carnotaurus including at least one male inhabiting the area near Mount Hood at the end of 2001. The third animal, if both this source and InGen’s own documentation are to be considered canon, is likely the offspring of the other two. They were relocated to another part of the island on December 30; what became of them afterward is unknown. The color of the level 30 Carnotaurus in Jurassic Park: Builder is similar to the colors of the one from Disney's Dinosaur while the bulkiness of the level 40 Carnotaurus in Jurassic World: The Game is similar to the one in the film as well. Between 1998 and 2004, Isla Sorna experienced an overpopulation crisis which resulted in the total collapse of its fragile ecology. If any Carnotaurus still lived on Isla Sorna in 2004 or 2005, they would have been relocated to Isla Nublar by Masrani Global Corporation. Isla Nublar

Notable Individuals

Toro was the third male main dinosaur antagonist introduced in the franchise, the first being the Spinosaurus and second being the Indoraptor. Plus, Toro is the only Carnotaurus who has a confirmed gender, with the other two Carnotauruses, their genders are never mentioned. With the release of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, it has become a popular fan theory that the scarred Carnotaurus at the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is indeed Toro, the male Carnotaurus from said series. [12]

The junior novel Prey describes the Carnotaurus as having an enhanced immune system, meaning either it is genetically engineered to be more resilient or that it is simply naturally robust. It is resistant to carfentanyl tranquilizers, requiring a dose similar to the artificial Indoraptor to put it under. At the moment it is not known whether this resiliency carries over from the junior novels to the film canon. Growth Concept art of a young Carnotaurus by Shaun Keenan The Carnotaurus in Jurassic Park: Builder uses the same animations and sound effects of the Spinosaurus, Suchomimus, Yutyrannus, and Baryonyx. It also has large 3 fingered arms, when in reality it had smaller 4 fingered arms. As with all dinosaurs, the Carnotaurus reproduces by laying eggs. It presumably has a cloaca, as with other dinosaur species, but details about its courtship behavior, mating, and reproduction are unknown. While speculative, the territorial markers it builds from animal bones may be advertisements to potential mates. Since more bones means the territory’s master is a better hunter, this would make the Carnotaurus a highly appealing mate. As of Season 5, Toro is the first known Carnotaurus to canonically kill a human, as Eli Mills was killed by Rexy the Tyrannosaurus and then the Carnotaurus devouring his remains.Maaradactylus • Macrauchenia • Macropoma • Magnapyritor • Magnosaurus • Magyarosaurus • Maiasaura • Majundaboa • Majundasuchus • Majungasaurus • Maleevus • Malusaurus • Mamenchisaurus • Mammolania • Mammotherium • Mammut • Mammuthus • Mantellisaurus • Marasuchus • Marshosaurus • Masiakasaurus • Massospondylus • Mastodonsaurus • Mauisaurus • Megacerops • Megalania/Varanus • Megaloceros Maelstrom 08 • Megalogaia • Megalonyx • Megalosaurus • Megalosuchus • Megalotops • Meganeura • Megapnosaurus • Megaraptor • Megarchelon • Megatherium • Megazostrodon • Megistocurus • Megistotherium • Meiolania • Mesolimulus • Mesonychoteuthis • Mesonyx • Mesosaurus • Metoposaurus • Metriacanthosaurus • Metrialong • Metriaphodon • Metriorhynchus • Microceratus • Micropachycephalosaurus • Microposaurus Salamander 16 • Microraptor • Microvenator • Minmi • Miragaia • Mixosaurus • Moeritherium • Mongolemys • Monoclonius • Monolocevia • Monolometrodon • Monolophosaurus • Monolorhino • Monomimus • Mononykus • Monostegotops • Montanoceratops • Moropus • Moros • Mosasaurus • Moschops • Mussaurus • Muttaburrasaurus • Mylodon • Mymoorapelta InGen bred Carnotaurus on Isla Sorna sometime between 1986 and 1993. Population statistics remain unknown for that period of time, as do the animals’ range; John Hammond‘s statements in 1997 would imply that the Carnotaurus inhabited the island’s central reaches. As of last count in 1993, InGen reported two Carnotaurus living on Isla Sorna. In the Genetic Age, this dinosaur’s genome has been sequenced and it was cloned by International Genetic Technologies for the Jurassic World theme park. Previously, it had been cloned by InGen on Isla Sorna, though it was not successfully brought to Isla Nublar at that point in time. It shows fewer phenotypic anomalies than many of InGen’s other animals, making it scientifically one of the most useful specimens. While exhibiting it proved to be too much of a challenge, Carnotaurus DNA was utilized by Dr. Henry Wu in the creation of the Scorpios (and subsequently the Indominus) genome. In particular, the horns of the Scorpios were derived from abelisaurid gene donors such as Carnotaurus. If its enhanced immune system as described in the junior novels has carried over into the film canon, this would be another potential point of interest in its genome, a possible source of medical treatments. Politics Everything that is known about Carnotaurus comes from a single near-complete skeleton, discovered by Argentine paleontologist José Bonaparte. The fossils were unearthed in Chubut Province, Argentina in 1984, with further exploration of the area uncovering numerous skin patches from the same dinosaur. Paleoecology
