A stunning high altitude guided trek, wild camping, traversing the main 3000m peaks of the Sierra Nevada in quiet and remote mountains. This is Los Tres Miles!The Hostal Pampaneira - The Dreams Alpujarra - or - Rent a Berber-style Country House in Pampaneira He ruled between 1238 and 1273 and was better known as "Ibn al-Aḥmar" or Castilianized "Alhamar" ("El Rojo"), due to the red color of his beard. Another walk starting from the same village will bring you to Tajo Cortés (I had to look up the name, I didn’t know it had one). It’s a 3-hour walk one way which climbs decisively to some stunning views on the surroundings. There is a stream, a small waterfall and pools that look like they came straight from the Caribbean. In fact, it reminded me of some of the most beautiful beaches in Colombia. The BTT1 Circular is of medium-high physical difficulty and medium-low technical difficulty, it departs from the tourist office in front of the Lanjarón Spa and then soon after follows the forested lane next to the Museum of Honey for a long climb of almost 16 kilometers. Spreading the wealth, so to speak, are the free potable fountains scattered all over town where you can get a firsthand taste of the Lanjaron springs. And, like most places in the Alpujarras, Lanjaron is also known for its fabulous jamón serrano (cured ham). Even the town’s name has wet roots, believed to have originated from “lanchar”, meaning “place with abundant water”.

Trip 3 (4+ Days) - If you have three to four days, you can see so much more! Start with Trip 1 & 2, then continue on to Pitres and Trevélez. From there continue deep into the Alpujarra and stop off at Yegen and Bérchules. A day out into the Sierra Nevada running along the spectacular trails and including Veleta summit (3394m), second highest peak in the Sierra Nevada. Also takes in the isolated summit of Cerro de los Machos (3329m). Starts and finishes at the Hoya de la Mora (2500m). Day 2: Option 1 - A longer run up into the hills from Lanjarón, featuring beautiful views and challenging climbs. This route takes in several interesting features revealing details about the rural culture and agricultural history of Lanjarón and the Alpujarras, as well as following ancient acequias (Moorish water channels). Approx. 14km/8.5miles, 1,135m ascent/descent, max elevation 1,476m. Option 2 – An extended trail taking you further up into the hills behind Lanjarón, where golden eagles and ibex are often seen in their mountainous terrain. Approx. 21km/13miles, 1,210m ascent/descent, max elevation 1,644m.Agua con gas is carbonated water, also known as club soda, soda water, sparkling water, or fizzy water; it may be carbonated (have CO2 added) either naturally, coming out of the spring already with bubbles, or artificially. From Malaga - take the A-7 motorway (or the older, slower and more scenic N-340 highway that runs parallel to the A-7) east towards Almuñécar, Motril, and Almería. In about 20 minutes after passing Almuñécar and when you reach Salobreña, take highway N-323 towards Granada. Lanjarón is located only 34 kilometers from Salobreña. As you climb the mountains you will pass a dam and a lake on your left. Look for signs indicating "Las Alpujarras" and "Lanjarón". Exit the highway and head towards the right (east).
