Last thing to note on the gaming benchmarks is the improvement seen by switching out the RAM. Some games are better than others, but I did see a noticeable improvement in many games. Certainly not worse in any, so you might want to plan on updating your RAM if you buy one of these models and want to get the most out of it. Noise, Heat, Connectivity, speakers, and others several panel options: 165 Hz 3ms 300-nits 100% sRGB with GSync, 120 Hz 250-nits 65% sRGB, 60 Hz 300-nits 100% sRGB And again, if you want a little boost to these stats, I highly recommend swapping out the RAM. As you can see, I got better results across the board with my old RAM. If this is something you plan on doing, do some research on what RAM modules will perform better. There’s quite a community out there noticing this and it’s growing. And this one is no exception. I got a different brand than Jarrod did, but I still have 1Rx16 modules with similar specs. And when I replaced the modules with my 5 year old RAM with slower speeds(2400Mhz), I was pretty surprised to see that I got better results. If I were to use this regularly, I would probably choose a TDP of 25C. This seemed to have minimal impact of most games, and yet limited the fan noise closer to 50dB, while in Performance mode. It also allowed the TGP to hover close to 140W for longer periods of time, offering better GPU performance. I didn’t spend a lot of time using this tool, but it’s nice to know it works.

There’s an HD webcam above the screen. It’s not a biometric webcam unfortunately, so that’s a real bummer. But it’s actually pretty decent as far as gaming webcams go. The colors certainly could be better. What really stood out to me was how sharp the image was even in low lighting. The main difference between this model and the 15” version is the RGB. Not that the 15” model had the best RGB – it was pretty much entry level as far as RGB keyboards go. But this 17” model’s keyboard only has white with two brightness levels. Probably not a deal breaker for most people, but definitely worth noting. The Legion 5 15 Gen.6 focuses on the core components of a gaming laptops and offers plenty of performance with a fast 165 Hz display. The problems with the automatic graphics switching are annoying though and should be fixed as soon as possible. There are a couple things I noticed with this testing. Firstly, the noise levels were quieter than what I measured on the similarly specced Legion 5 Pro. A good surprise, indeed, but it’s probably because this model’s RTX 3070 only hits 115W with games (although it should go up to 130W as per the specs), where the Legion 5 Pro goes up to 140W.

Emissions — Pretty Noisy

The good news is, I didn’t have any problems with this one like I did with the 15” Legion 5. So far, it has been working just fine. My speed test results in 430Mbps at about 30 feet away from my router. This module also has Bluetooth 5.2 which seems to work fine for me. For RGB, you get 4 zone illumination on this model. Don’t expect too much though, as the RGB options are scarce. To me, the zones are pretty ugly so I just opt for single-zone illumination. This is an older style of RGB illumination though, so there’s plenty of light bleeding in the keys and the color isn’t consistent on the bottom of the Numpad and the spacebar.
