She doesn't have a single iconic costume, but she oozes old-school glamour. Think femme fatale. You want all the silk and fur you own. To replicate her golden monkey daemon, The first book in the hilarious new series for children by the bestselling creator of Hurrah For Gin. Perfect for fans of Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and Dork Diaries. From hilarious bestselling author, Katie Kirby, comes a brand-new Lottie Brooks story. This time it's CHRISTMAS!!!

Sami’s resilience throughout this story is truly admirable and this book is a thoughtful insight into the lives of refugees arriving on the shores on the UK. The Lottie Brooks books by Katie Kirby are hugely popular with preteen readers. This hilarious illustrated series explores the daily ups and downs of growing up, including facing puberty, navigating friendships, dealing with first crushes and all of the embarrassing moments that come with handling school and family life.Ana Rosa’s family depends on income from her brother’s job to put food on the table, but her life is far from poor; it is rich with love, friendship, community, music and dance. But when her way of life is threatened by an oppressive government eager to seize their homes, Ana Rosa will realise that in a country where silence is self-defence, her words are as powerful as bullets.

Shakirah Bourne: It is easy to get lost in books with sword-wielding heroes and spellbinding magic, but in The Color of Her Words by Lynne Joseph, authoritarian forces challenge a 12-year-old girl who is armed only with a pencil and notepad, and her journey is just as epic as any fantastical adventure. The book is primarily a tale about the pressures a young person feels as self-awareness, other people’s perception of you, and fitting in, becomes all-important. When she is caught by Charley, the most popular and prettiest girl, and the ‘influencer’ in school, rummaging through supermarket bins for perfectly good food, this is the lowest point in Laurie’s life. However, the ensuing conversation leads Charley to learn of Laurie’s ‘Beauty in the kitchen’ profile, where she promotes her natural skin-products she has made from fresh foods. These appear to be the perfect products to win the school’s enterprise competition and so Charley assumes Laurie’s co-operation and partnership, leaving Laurie to abandon her friends, who go it alone. A fortnight of compromising begins, all which places her on an uncomfortable and chaotic journey as she tries to keep pace with Charley and her manipulation, whilst losing out on her relationships with those that matter – her family and friends. Why we like this book: The joy, for me, is hearing Flora laugh out loud when she reads it, over and over again. “It’s like a funny comic,” she says. “But it’s real life, not superheroes. It’s about stuff that actually could happen to somebody.” Then Lottie meets new CRUSH Antoine. The language is a tiny bit of a barrier but does it matter when he's THAT good looking? It’s Lottie Brooks’ second term at Kingswood High and she feels better prepared for the banana skins that life at school tends to throw in her path.

He enjoys doing all the things kids love to do when they are thirteen years old - he hangs out with his best friend, he plays video games, and he thinks about football. But when his family is caught up in a bombing at a shopping mall, his entire life is thrown into turmoil as he begins the harrowing journey to the UK as a refugee to escape danger. My daughter loves this style of book which is written as a diary. Although she loves to read she also loves illustrations and the drawings of Katie Kirby are very funny and help illustrate the book well. My daughter is 10 and I thought she was the perfect age to read the book. It’s funny with lots of laugh out loud moments and we enjoyed reading it together. In fact my daughter loved it so much that we’ve put the first two books on her wishlist! We’ve put together a list of ten similar books for fans of Lottie Brooks.Readers who love stories about real-life themes of family and friendships could try Ella on the Outsideor Invisible Emmie. Those looking for another preteen illustrated diary series like Lottie Brooks might like the easy-to-read Accidental Diary of B.U.G or the humorous gentle fantasy series Diary of an Accidental Witch. For children who enjoyed the compelling first-person voice of Lottie Brooks’ narrative and her positive energy in the face of the everyday challenges of life, we recommend Raina Telgemeier’s graphic novel Smile or the Front Desk series– both of which are popular favourites among the 9-12 age group. Write down your top ten books, this can include books you’d like to read again. Why not set a target for when you’d like to read them all. Harry now carried a large cage that held a beautiful snowy owl, fast asleep with her head under her wing."

Brie grew up doing treasure hunts around her island town with her mother, and these precious memories have been extra-special since her mother passed away a couple of years ago. But on Brie’s twelfth birthday, a new treasure hunt begins, as a series of letters takes her on an adventure she never expected. Lottie Brooks continues to navigate the many perils of growing up in this fantastically funny illustrated series for a 9-12 audience, filled with friendship, embarrassing moments and plenty of lols. In a village in the Dominican Republic, Ana Rosa dreams of being a writer; a dangerous dream in a place where words are feared. She knows it would be safer to keep her words inside, but it is impossible not to write poems and stories about the music of the ocean, dancing at fiestas and on the beach with her Papi, a first crush, or her brother’s search for a future. She might as well give up now and go into hibernation with her hamsters Sir Barnaby Squeakington and Fuzzball the Third. When World Book Day arrives each year, it can spark classroom discussion on the characters young people love. Those fictional heroes don’t have to be the best-known names to get pupils talking either.
