Use a card with SD Speed Class with ""UHS-I / UHS-II UHS Speed Class 3 (U3)"" when recording motion pictures with [MP4] in [4K], [MOV], [S&Q], [6K PHOTO] or [4K PHOTO]. At the heart of the S5 II is a new processing engine that is the first product of Panasonic's L² co-development project with Leica. The two companies shared know-how and resources to develop the new processor, which we'd expect to see in future Leica models, too. A set of dual dial control dials sit where your forefinger and thumb naturally rest, allowing you to adjust shutter speed and aperture, depending on which shooting mode you’re working in. In the main menu you can set different configurations for how each dial works, and even change the direction of the dials if you like. Image quality is broadly comparable, with the Sony offering slightly better detail capture at low ISO but slipping a little behind in low light conditions. The Sony offers the most impressive battery life but also the weakest rolling shutter performance in video, making it more difficult than ever to choose between the four cameras. FHD] 1920x1080 29.97p, 100Mbps (4:2:2 10-bit LongGOP)* / 100Mbps (4:2:0 8-bit LongGOP) (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, LPCM) *HLG is selectable.

Panasonic LUMIX DC-S5 II Full Frame Mirrorless Camera Body

Notice how the camera does a good job detecting my eye in almost full profile and also how the S5 II now avoids the distracting pulsing of the DFD system previously used for continuous AF. But also notice how when I turn away or am more distant, there’s no specific head or body detection in this mode. The Face and Eye mode is really for concentrating on face-on portraits. In terms of video, the S5 II is a 10-bit video specialist. Almost all of its extensive recordable video formats can be captured with a maximum of 10-bit color, including 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K 60p video, which has no video recording limits. The LUMIX S5 II can also record up to 4:2:0 10-bit 6K/29.97p LongGOP video in an H.265 codec, using the full readout of the camera’s sensor and producing a 5952x3968 (3:2) image.

Shown here mounted on a Lumix GH5S, the Atomos Ninja V will support ProRes RAW capture from the Lumix S5 following a firmware update later this year. (Image credit: Atomos) When the ambient temperature is high or continuous recording is performed, the camera may stop the recording to protect itself. Wait until the camera cools down. I have used the S5 to shoot sports, wildlife, portraits, street photography, documentary photography, birds, events, concerts and more. I’ve never been let down. Overall autofocus performance is snappy and accurate. Yes, you see the autofocus pulsing and it makes you think the camera is struggling, but it’s not. The camera will nail nine out of 10 shots all day long. C4K] 4096x2160**** 25.00p, 150Mbps (4:2:2 10-bit LongGOP)* / 100Mbps (4:2:0 8-bit LongGOP) (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, LPCM) *HLG is selectable. And now the same pan but with using the electronic shutter where the tell-tale skewing artefacts of rolling shutter have become apparent with the tower and buildings leaning to the side.

Lumix DC-S5 II / DC-S5 IIX initial review Panasonic Lumix DC-S5 II / DC-S5 IIX initial review

In real-world use, the S5 should last for a full day of moderate use, especially when engaging in power-saving tactics of your own, such as switching it off between shots. If you’re somebody that wants to shoot lots of 4K clips in a day, it may be worth investing in a second battery. You can also charge the S5 via USB, so an alternative would be a high-capacity power bank for charging on the go, too. Image and video quality Switching to Face and Eye mode, the S5 II still isn’t finding my eye in complete profile, but re-acquires me as soon as I begin to turn to face the camera. The S5 II also inherits the six aspect ratios of its predecessor, so along with the native 3:2, you can choose to crop JPEGs into 4:3, 16:9 or 1:1, as well as panoramic 65:24 or 2:1 options. More options than Canon and Sony there. One of the key photo highlights of the S5 II over its rivals is the High Resolution Mode which captures a series of eight images using the electronic shutter, with IBIS subtly shifting the sensor between each. These are then combined afterwards to deliver an image with reduced colour moire artefacts as well as potentially higher resolution.
