That latter toggle-and-connect button is the one that switches the mouse's connection among the three possible connected devices. In between the two mouse buttons sits a battery-status LED (which we never saw lit, since the battery was in good shape), a button, and forward of that, the scroll wheel. The scroll wheel is pronounced, with a prominent raise and a ribbed texture. The wheel is touted as "hyper-fast," and that claim doesn't feel very far off from our experience with the mouse. We flew through scrolling tasks, with little stress on our joints or muscles. Stopping precisely proved more challenging; we'd classify it as almost-too-fast scrolling. To use the mouse, you can plug in the Unifying receiver and be up and running. Or, you can pair it with a host via Bluetooth. To do the latter, just tap and hold the third button on the mouse to initiate the Bluetooth pairing process.

The addition of a USB receiver to both units indicates that Logitech is targeting the new devices towards PCs also. The K780 and M720 Triathlon are sold separately. Both of them come with their own Unifying Receivers. For use-cases that don't involve the USB receiver, both units have compartments to safely stow them away. The device-change mechanism for the keyboard has been altered. Instead of a rotary dial (used in the K480), the K780 uses multiplexed function keys for the same purposeThe mouse contains buttons and gesture support that make it ideal for use with tablets as well as PCs. While it is difficult to find scope for improvement in the M720 Triathlon, the K780 can be made a little more attractive with full-height arrow keys (that would go well with the PC use-case).

At the bottom of the mouse sit the power slider and the battery compartment. The battery compartment is both secure and easy to remove by sliding your finger down it. Inside the compartment sits a AA battery and a slot that holds Logitech's included Unifying wireless USB receiver (the same kind used by the K780 keyboard). The mouse can transmit up to 10 meters to the Unifying receiver or via Bluetooth 4.0. Over the Unifying receiver, the 2.4GHz mouse is compatible with Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, and Linux-based computers, as well as with (as mentioned) Android 5.0 or later. Even Windows RT is supported. The keys in the K780 are easier to type on and provide a better usage experience compared to the ones in the K480. In our review process, we first connected the M720 Triathlon to a PC with its USB receiver. After installing the Logitech Unifying Software, we were also able to pair the K780 without using its USB receiver. The Logitech K780 and M720 Triathlon are a great addition to the set of multi-device I/O peripherals from Logitech. They work as advertised, and there is really not much to complain about. As mentioned earlier, the keys of the K780 are a definite improvement over the K480. Evaluation of keyboards and mice targeted towards day-to-day / casual usage is an inherently subjective exercise. In the table below, we compare the specifications of the K780 / M720 Triathlon with some of the other keyboard / mice combos that we have evaluated with a similar approach before. Some subjective scores have also been provided.Consumers can use either Bluetooth or a 2.4GHz RF Unifying Receiver (included with both products) to communicate with the host device The M720 measures 4.5 by 2.9 by 2 inches and weighs 5 ounces. And, as we noted above, the mouse's design is right-handed only. Setup, Usability, and Impressions Despite the curve being more pronounced than on the Logitech M330 Silent Plus , we found it worked well for our fingers to splay over the buttons. In fact, we liked how long and smooth the button mechanism was: We could push with the whole length of our finger, which in turn took stress off our joints. The Logitech Options software lets you change configurations and program buttons. You can swap the left and right buttons, change the pointer speed, and adjust the scroll-wheel direction. Adjusting the scroll-wheel speed didn't dispel our sense that the "hyper-fast" wheel was a shade too slippery. However, we did feel that the left and right tilt/toggle action of the scroll wheel was just right, with no resistance. The Logitech Options software enables users to configure / alter the behavior of the configurable keys of all the attached compatible Logitech devices. The Unifying Receiver program can also be triggered from within this interface. The battery status of the devices can also be viewed through this program.
