About this deal

In Chapter 66, Makima is able to wound the Darkness Devil with ease by just pointing a finger at it. It is also stated that she is on the side of humanity, claiming that she attempts to save humanity from the devils that were plaguing the world. Despite some of her ruthless behavior, she does not hesitate to call out several yakuza about justifying themselves being a necessary evil as she needed their cooperation to further her own plans seemingly saving humanity. In addition, Makima also shows a bit of a glimpse of the humanity in her when she cried during her time with Denji watching the third film about a man seemingly reconciling with his lost friend.

In the original Devilman manga, Sirene had two demons who assisted her called Ghelmer and Agwel who had water and intangibility powers respectively. Two of Makima's subordinates, Beam and Princi, are both Devils with intangibility powers and Beam is a Shark Fiend and sharks are aquatic animals with his intangibility being his own way of representing sharks swimming. Makima's Japanese Devil Name, Shihai (支配), uses the same kanji as the Japanese translation for the first of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in Christian mythology. Given Makima's status as a member of the group, her name could also be interpreted as the Conquest Devil.Makima's true goal, however, was to be together forever with Pochita and lead a happy life with him. She always yearned for something like a family, being incapable of forming equal and meaningful relationships as the Control Devil. Angel Devil: Couldn't say... It always seems like she's thinking either about nothing or thinking something awful. Aki: I spoke with the future devil and... I found out my time is near. Whatever happens, I want Denji and Power to survive and be happy. My brother's death was my fault. I want the strength to change things this time. Ms. Makima...I'll make a contract with any devil. Please help me. She has been shown to inflict damage by projecting an invisible force to targets she points at with her index finger [10] which is strong enough to heavily damage Darkness Devil, who is a Primal Devil, kill Power instantly [11] and send an empowered Chainsaw Man high into the atmosphere when she used it repetitively against him. She usually says " Bang! (バン!)" while using this ability. In addition to all of this, Makima also shows a rather condescending and elitist behavior, viewing Denji as nothing but an obstacle for her to meet Chainsaw Man and also viewing him as unworthy of the title due to his appearance and mannerisms alone. When Denji asks her if bad movies will exist in her utopian world, alluding to their date in the cinemas, Makima then answered his question by saying that she has no hesitations to remove all the bad movies from the earth, reflecting her determination to bring a world where human race experience no suffering and misfortunes.

Makima Early Analysis | Nikke: Goddess of Victory Makima Early Analysis | Nikke: Goddess of Victory

Kishibe: The ambush on the special division... Public safety are no fools. You knew about it and let it happen didn't you? Makima: It wasn't mine, I wasn't hit (Cue to the shot of the corpses of her assailant that has big holes in their chest scattered inside the train) Makima: Do you really think that the Prime Minister of Japan would contract with such an evil devil? My power is the ability to take control of those who consider themselves below me. If I fight against Chainsaw Man and win, I'll be able to control him. The time has come to pay for your sins. I investigated your past. A child's mind is an amazing thing. They can just shut away memories they don't like behind a door. They're hidden behind the door so you can keep living, right? Without that, you wouldn't be able to live a normal life. Your father didn't kill himself didn't he? You killed him, right? He was drunk and seemed like he was going to kill you, so he didn't have a choice. But the adults around you wouldn't get the money they were owed that way, so they called it a suicide. The door has been finally opened. You helped me kill Power; You killed Hayakawa even though it might have been possible to save him; And you killed your own father. Someone who did all that doesn't deserve to dream of a normal life, does he? The mangaka of Chainsaw Man, Tatsuki Fujimoto, about Makima in the artbook interview of Chainsaw Man.

Appearance

During Chapter 93, when Denji asks Makima if there will be bad movies in her ideal utopian world, she then answers that she will eradicate all bad movies in her world as she believes the world would be better if bad movies ceased to exist which causes Denji to have no hesitations to kill her. This references her and Denji's date in the movie theater around Chapter 39 when they talk about good and bad movies which also can be interpreted as a philosophical talk about how life works as without anything bad that balanced the good, life itself would become a lot more boring and it would destroy anything that makes human special. It can also be interpreted as Denji calling out Makima using her so-called well-intentioned goals just to fulfill her selfish desires. The Chainsaw Devil is perhaps the only individual Makima has ever shown genuine interest or affection towards. Furthermore, Pochita is one of the only people who she does not believe to be beneath her due to his legendary status and power. Her association with pests could be reflective of how the Conquest Horseman is often interpreted as the Horseman of Pestilence. The reason for the Conquest Horseman being changed to Pestilence in some interpretations is because scholars found Conquest to be too similar to War. Pestilence was an easy change because at the time, bows and arrows were laced with poisons and toxins and the Conquest Horseman held a bow and arrow. Even though Makima's hands are in a more gun-like position, her "Bang!" ability can also be comparable to shots from an arrow.

Makima: Please be at ease, we have someone in the bureau capable of returning them to normal. If you are willing to cooperate, then I'll refer you to them. However, it was revealed that Makima also holds rather sociopathic tendencies in terms of her relationship with humanity as it was revealed that she views her love for humans as similar to humans' fondness for dogs, ever perceiving them as one because of their loyal, easily handled, clever and stupid behavior which amuses Makima. In addition, Makima also basks in humanity's adoration and praises her as if she was a goddess which made her happy.Makima justifying her attempts to brainwash both Aki and Angel Devil while mumbling that the operation to take down the Gun Devil is meaningless.
