The MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier's Smart Laundry mode also makes it one of the best dehumidifiers for drying clothes that I've tested.

In terms of noise, on the highest speed fan setting I measured the MeacoDry Arete One at 48.8dB, which is certainly loud enough to hear; on low speed, it was 45.9dB when measured from a distance of 1m. On many devices when you select a night mode or a sleep mode they leave a light on to indicate that it is in the mode or they forget to turn off the bleeps so a press of a button is accompanied by an annoying noise. As well as the standard mode, there’s a laundry mode, which sets the target relative humidity to 35% and runs the machine for a maximum of six hours. It’s designed to help dry laundry hanging on a clothes rail. Yes, there is the option to connect a garden hose and continually drain water from the dehumidifier The original MeacoDry Arete One was a large yet sensibly designed dehumidifier for larger homes, even giving the option to permanently feed water into a drain. Here, we have the MeacoDry Arete One 10L. It’s a more compact product, built for smaller properties up to two bedrooms, but it’s small size is also ideal for placing it in utility rooms or outdoor garden rooms. Design and FeaturesThere are two versions of this product, one that can remove 20 litres of water per day and a larger 250-litre per day model (at 30ºC and 80% relative humidity; the water removal depends on the environment you’re in). Both have a 4.8-litre water tank, which means that the worst-case scenario would involve emptying it several times per day; in my tests, the tank needed emptying every one or two days. There’s a status light that indicates when the tank needs emptying – the dehumidifier shuts down automatically when the tank is full.

Here we have the MeacoDry Arete One 10L model; there is a slightly more powerful 12L model. Both sport the same design and are relatively small in size, much like an air purifier. The rating refers to the amount of water that can be extracted per day, but both have a 2.5-litre water tank. The end result is our quietest, most energy efficient dehumidifier range yet, with a host of special features to make living with Arete a pleasure. It's a bit of a bonus that this dehumidifier also comes with an air purifier function –something most dehumidifier's don't offer – and I found it worked really well. It’s definitely worth adding in that HEPA filter which you’ll find included in the box when the dehumidifier is delivered. All Arete One dehumidifiers come with a medical grade H13 HEPA filter which is 75% larger than the filter on our popular Low Energy models. It can be used to clean the air during dehumidification and as a stand-alone air purifier throughout the spring and summer months. I suffer from hayfever, and when I left the dehumidifier running all night, I woke up and didn’t have any allergy symptoms at all. Running costs vary depending on the size, make and model of dehumidifier you opt for, but the MeacoDry Arete One 12L dehumidifier uses a relatively low 151 Watts of electricity. At current prices that's an approximate running cost of just 4p per hour.

Our reviewer Tina tested the MeacoDry Arete One over the course of a year in her 2-bedroom house. She tested it mostly in the spare bedroom while drying laundry, noting how effective it was at drying washing and reducing moisture, mould, musty smells and humidity levels. The MeacoDry Arete One 12L dehumidifier is a great buy for apartments or small to medium-sized houses, and it’s easy to move from room to room thanks to the extendable handle and castors, and compact enough to store easily when not in use.Larger homes, or those with more serious damp issues, may benefit from opting for the MeacoDry Arete One 20 or 25L which offer the same great functionality with an increased extraction capacity. The Arete One has a really nice user interface. It has just four buttons that are easy to get the hang of: Night mode is significantly quieter than the regular mode, and it stays quiet until you turn it off. If I'm working from home I tend to keep it on night mode. What do you use your dehumidifier for? Does it meet your needs? This handle feels far more robust than most that I've come across on other dehumidifiers and is really easy to grip. For comparison, Pro Breeze's most energy-effecient comprssor dehumidifier, the Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier, uses 220W to the MeacoDry 12L Arete One's 151W, and costs roughly 6p per hour to run.The Pro Breeze Low Energy dehumidifier also has several other issues that the MeacoDry 12L Arete One does not, as you'll find out in my Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy dehumidifier review. To make things easier, Arete comes with a hose adapter to allow you to use a standard garden hose for continuous drainage if you need it.
