About this deal

Metal Gear REX made a cameo in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus as part of a playable online map based on Shadow Moses Island's Underground Maintenance Base called "REX Hangar." In a pre-release trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4, some Gekko managed to wipe out the Middle Eastern militiamen in Ground Zero. Afterwards, they also released a greenish-yellow fluid (later confirmed to be lactic acid). In addition, within the Red Zone, they also were marching with a platoon of Strykers belonging to Praying Mantis, resulting in Snake (who was spying on them for reconnaissance) almost being spotted by one. [11] Although most of these weren't shown in the game itself, the former was nonetheless implied to have happened off-screen with Snake being pursued by Gekko early in Act 1. At the heart of Kojima's new game, that would take advantage of the 3D rendering capabilities of the new PlayStation console, was the Metal Gear REX, a walking tank. It fell to Shinkawa to design the 3D model. First, the creative parameters were discussed: in movement, the REX should have a dinosaur-like quality (the Tyrannosaurus Rex served as inspiration for its name and shape), and as a robot it should not follow the human form or be "too much from outer space"—basically excluding the whole canon of Japanese mecha designs as reference material. During REX's development, the Metal Gear engineers became concerned of what would happen if REX, after it was completed and doing solo ops in the field, was detected by the enemy and forced to engage in close range combat against conventional forces. They then decided that they could make REX's hull a weapon in itself. Although the program was completed, and had gotten fantastic results from supercomputer simulation, the military shelved the project before they could even install it (as the military viewed it as not being part of their regulations). However, REX's chief engineer Hal Emmerich secretly uploaded the data into REX anyway. [7] Although the first actual prototype for REX was developed in 2005, it went through multiple prototype stages in VR while it was still in the design stage to correct various flaws before being developed. [8] As REX was primarily tested via VR simulations, the Pentagon and ArmsTech needed to perform live testing to compare the simulation data with actual test results. Because of this, they started a field exercise at the remote military facility on Shadow Moses Island. [9] Shadow Moses Incident [ ] Main article: Shadow Moses Incident In Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, a secret boss can be encountered on Monster Island called " Gear REX," which has several striking similarities to Metal Gear REX, such as bone ridges that make its face look like the Metal Gear, and a limb over its right shoulder representing the rail gun, which shoots a highly acidic mucous instead. Its roar also sounds similar to that made by its namesake.

Retraction Distance: 4-8 mm, 1-3 mm for Direct Extruder ( This is the most important retraction parameter. You can find your optimal value of Retraction Distance by printing any test object, e.g. bridges, towers etc.) Mei Ling: In 15 hours, it's going to be over the Bering Sea... 494 nautical miles from the Bering Strait. Haven knows it, too. They'll be holding position in that area. // Meryl: Do they really have to get that close to launch? // [Otacon walks over to the projector screen.] // Otacon: The nukes fired by REX's rail gun have a damage radius of approximately 300 meters. The target is a moving satellite that's travelling at 10 kilometers per second. To get the precision they need, they have to get as close as they possibly can. // Mei Ling: Liquid won't launch his nuke until JD is at perigee. The Missouri can use that time to catch up. This contradicts Otacon listing the weapons as a "Vulcan cannon, a laser and a rail gun;" here, the "Vulcan Cannon" is the laser. A variant known as the "Suicide Gekko" carried a nuclear demolition charge in its head. These Gekko possessed no onboard weapons apart from the standard internal machine gun. Their function was to get close to a target and detonate their charges, destroying themselves and the target. However, their effectiveness could be limited, as they could be destroyed by very high caliber weapon fire before getting within effective lethal blast range. Designed by INT, its fuse unit and pilot light were also detailed. [6] I owuld reccomend printing it a little larger than i have if you can for strength and to see that glorious detail. also as i will state in the print tipsMetal Gear Solidwas directed by Hideo Kojima, developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan, and first published by Konami in 1998 for PlayStation. Widely considered to be one of the greatest and most important games of all time, and is heralded as the game that made the stealth genre popular. It is the third canonical title released in the Metal Gear series, being a direct sequel to Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Being bio-mechanical, a Gekko had a circulatory system that used blood to nourish its legs. If cut or shot, its legs would bleed. Since they were made of living muscle tissue, the legs produced lactic acid, which accumulated with muscle activity and had to be expelled periodically. Gekko did this via a release of accumulated lactic acid as a yellow-green liquid from an orifice between the hips. The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments. When printing simple objects, you need to set all Acceleration parameters at 500 mm/s. For small/thin parts you need to decrease the Acceleration by 50% - 70% .

Otacon states that REX is armed with a "Vulcan Cannon," indicating the gatling guns are M61A1s, and later an entire Codec call focuses on REX's missiles being anti-tank weapons with laser semi-active homing, not radio-guided anti-infantry weapons. A Gekko had the ability to go into a low-powered state in which it was crouched down in a compact size, did not move, and appeared to be deactivated. Its passive sensors remained active, however; should any object beyond a certain size approach within their range, or should any loud noise occur, the unit would awaken and rise. On Shadow Moses, for example, two Gekko were in this state on each side of a small canyon. Rats and other small creatures were able to move around near them without waking them. But if Solid Snake or his Metal Gear Mk. III approached one it awoke. If he destroyed one with a very high-caliber weapon, the other was immediately awakened by the explosion. Its canonicity within the continuity is disputed, therefore reader discretion is advised. [?]According to Hideo Kojima's "Grand Game Plan" for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, some of the countries that Ocelot leaked the REX data to were the five big nuclear powers other than the United States, as well as Iraq and North Korea. In addition, Solidus was explicitly stated to have been involved in the leaking, and he only supplied Iraq and North Korea with the REX data because he knew full well that they wouldn't be able to create it, anyway. REX’s assembly requires additional "pins"that can be made out of short pieces of a regular paperclip; History [ ] Guns of the Patriots Incident [ ] See also: Liquid Sun, Solid Sun, Third Sun, Twin Suns, Old Sun, and Naked Sin/Naked Son Unconfirmed history [ ] The following information has been detailed in official Konami-licensed media, written by various external authors. Its status in the Metal Gear canon is unconfirmed. [?]

Otacon describes REX's secret program to Old Snake in a Codec conversation during REX's battle against RAY.Translation: "Suicide unit" / "■ The suicide unit was also detailed with the position of the fuse unit and pilot lights. These modular units were designed by INT.")

Besides possessing the above-listed offensive measures, Gekko also were equipped with defensive systems. The most notable of these was its anti-missile counter-measures that directed missiles away from it. In addition, some variants of Gekko carried cylindrical containers filled with various poison gases. [5] Yoji Shinkawa was born in Hiroshima, December 25th 1971. In 1994 he graduated from Kyoto Seika University, a private art university renowned for its art, design, and manga faculties, where Shinkawa majored in "Western painting." Here, he specialized in oil painting, but did not restrict himself to learning one specific technique or skill: he was highly versatile in the arts of drawing and sculpting, honing skills at university that would prove very useful later on. A war machine of ruinous power. Metal Gear REX was developed at the weapons company ArmsTech under the eye of Hal "Otacon" Emmerich. It had the ability to launch nuclear warheads from a mounted rail gun. During testing, REX was captured by FOXHOUND, a rogue special-forces unit headed by Liquid Snake, but Solid Snake managed to destroy the machine before calamity ensued." ―Metal Gear REX trophy description Every time your BP reaches certain levels, different items and equipment are given to you as rewards.

Who is artist Yoji Shinkawa?

Kojima in PSM interview: I cannot say what that is or what it will do because of the pilot. What I can say is that the leg part of what you saw is not 100% robot. It's like biotechnology. It's kind of like a cyborg. Think of it as the ninja suit in MGS1. If you shoot the leg, blood comes out. But it's very fast because it's not a robotic thing -- it's got muscle. So it can move quite fast.
