About this deal

This underrated shot is best used sporadically, as regular use will take away from your more powerful, topspin forehand weapon. But this slice is a weapon all its own. —Nina Pantic, former player at UCLA and the University of Missouri Being able to surprise opponents with a different spin from your forehand side is handy, especially in the rec game. This shot shouldn’t be hit timidly; take a short but firm swing (watch the video above, featuring slice savant John Newcombe, to see how it's done). It works as an aggressive return against big servers, and as a method to change pace. It can help create sharp angles and aid in charging the net. During rallies, a forehand slice will throw off your opponent because it’s seemingly taboo to hit—and therein lies its beauty.

The Moon Ball is a PokéBall obtained from Kurt. This ball has an increased capture rate for Pokémon that evolve with the MoonStone. If the target Pokémon is Nidorina, Nidorino, Clefairy, Jigglypuff or Skitty, then the capture rate is 4. For every other Pokémon, the capture rate is 1. Since I live in upstate New York, I have a 3-hour train ride to the city from Saratoga. I try and make it to New York City 4 times a year to visit friends, catch a game, and have a change of scenery. It may be one of the ugliest shots in the sport, and one of the most rarely seen in the pros. But it was used to great effect by Agnieszka Radwanska, who climbed all the way to No. 2 in the world, and Monica Niculescu sliced the likes of Maria Sharapova off the court with it.

It can feel silent in a sold-out arena, or deafening with no one in sight. The 90-second changeover is what you make of it: a crucial portion of any match, but also one of the most overlooked. In Generation II, the Moon Ball's catch rate is mistakenly boosted when used on Pokémon that evolve using a Burn Heal rather than a Moon Stone, so in practice the rate is never boosted. In Generation I, the Moon Stone's index number was 0x0A, but in Generation II, this index corresponds to the Burn Heal (the Moon Stone instead having the index number 0x08)—the Moon Ball's code mistakenly references the Moon Stone's original index number, preventing the Moon Ball's boost from ever applying. This item cannot be given to Pokémon to hold in HeartGold & SoulSilver. If a Pokémon is captured in this PokéBall and traded to Diamond, Pearl or Platinum, it will revert in those games to an ordinary PokéBall.Emmerich - who you gonna hire when it comes to a movie of this kind and calibre? I mean one is almost tempted to say that he is doing one thing in different forms/movies. There are elements from so many other movies here. Be it in the characters or the themes of the movie. The important question though is: can you suspend your disbelief? And I don't mean just a little! I am talking about all the way here. Today's players swing as hard as they can on almost every shot, yet hardly ever miss. A weak approach to either corner is a death sentence, but by approaching deep down the middle, you avoid giving your opponent any angle with which to pass you. It’s simple geometry, and also provides more options on the ensuing volley. But the changeover can be a double-edged sword. If clouded with negative thoughts, the time can eat up an opportunity to find clarity in what may seem like chaos. Once the umpire calls “time,” a player’s mental work during the changeover unfolds. —Jordaan Sanford, former player at the University of Maryland and Baylor University
