In the first book, he betrays the Elders in favour of Serpine who he believes is too powerful to defeat. It is later revealed Bliss was only pretending to help Serpine so that he could retrieve the Sceptre of the Ancients and "his actions would become predictable" (he says this after being told to kill Valkyrie). He then assists in bringing Serpine down. The first time Valkyrie meets Bliss, she said there was something about him that made her want to curl up and cry.

Serpine has a meeting with Mr. Bliss who has been sent by the Elders, in his castle full of Hollow Men. During the meeting Mr. Bliss informs Serpine that two Sancuary agents, Clement Gale and Alexander Slake, who had been monitoring him were found dead yesterday. Serpine lies, denying having anything to do with it, and Mr. Bliss leaves to catch and plane to London. It accompanied the manuscript of a song.Would we give the writer a flute for it, was the substance of the letter, expressed in a quaint and original way, and in beautiful handwriting. We were on the lookout for bright men, andwe felt sure that here was one. The song needed some revising, but we took it and sent him the flute. Later we made arrangements with Mr. Bliss to come to Chicago. It was agreed that he would go as our representative to towns that would naturally be tributary to Chicago, and hold conventions and give concerts (his wife being his accompanist), and so turn people’s attention to us for whatever they might want in the way of music. For this servicewe guaranteed him a certain annual sum. If his concerts and conventions did not reach that amount we were to make it up. Mr. Bliss was constantly composing, and I soon saw that there was a man who had a ‘call’ both as a poet and melodist. His songs have been a wonderful power for good. However, the season for the journal relates to a real event, that being Christmas, so it's unlikely for him to be canon. PHILIP PAULBLISS was born in Clearfield County, Pa., July 9, 1838. His father and mother were religious and musical, and thehome influence was such as tomake good and lasting impressions upon the boy. He early developed a passion for music, and would sit and listen with delight to his parents singingwhen but a child, and very early sang with them. The first piano he ever saw was when he was about ten years of age. He was a large overgrown boy, and one daydown in the village, as he was passing by a house, he heard the sweetest music of his life. The door stood open and he was irresistibly drawn towards the sweet sounds that came from within. He was barefoot, and entered unobserved and stood at the parlor door listening, entranced, as a young lady played upon the piano. As she ceased playing he exclaimed with an intense desire, “Oh, lady, play some more.” She looked around surprised, and with no appreciation of the tender heart that had been so touched by her music, said, “Go out of here with your great feet,” and he wentaway crushed, but with thememories of harmonies that seemed to him like heaven. e dance3, his arms and legs are out of place and tilted, facing the bottom, and dances from the left to right to left. The printing and binding company Imago in China has done a brilliant job! The improvement can best be appreciated if you lay the revised edition next to the first edition; you immediatly get the feeling the revised edition can easily be called the 'deluxe' edition of Mr. Bliss. Mr Bliss is a highly experienced and skilled consultant orthopedic surgeon, with particular expertise in knee surgery. Tom Shippey also remarked on the rural setting of "a vanished England where everybody did - and spoke - exactly as they pleased, and life was consequently a series of amiable anrupt collisions" and compares it to Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows [17] Jared Lobdell also compared Mr. Bliss to both The Wind in the Willows - and Toad's driving a car - and suggested that "Lear's Book of Nonsense is among Mr. Bliss's spiritual progenitors". Initiates helped Bliss to defeat the Dark Gods. Presumably, Bliss would have fought earlier incarnations of the Munchkin Army when he himself was a Disciple of the Dark Gods, however further discussion would be limited to speculation. What is known is that he was a member of the Army in 2008. Mr. Bliss is a children's picture book by J. R. R. Tolkien, published posthumously in book form in 1982. One of Tolkien's least-known short works, it tells the story of Mr. Bliss and his first ride in his new motor-car. Many adventures follow: encounters with bears, angry neighbours, irate shopkeepers, and assorted collisions. Mr. Bliss wasn't published during Tolkien's lifetime. He submitted it to his publishers as a balm to readers who were hungry for more from Tolkien after the success of The Hobbit. The ink and coloured pencil illustrations would have made production costs prohibitively expensive. Tolkien agreed to redraw the pictures in a simpler style, but then found he didn't have time to do it. Of the six season reward skins, Mr. Bliss’ special effect is way less noticeable than those of Anteo, Bakari, Gryffyn, Carver, and Meisery with only the lights on the body changing color. He and Mr. Sankey compiled Gospel Hymns and Sacred Songs, Nos. 1 and 2. He was author also of a great many sheet songs. Many of Mr. Bliss’ gospel songs have been sung around the world, and are still immensely popular. In London Mr. Bliss approaches Tanith Low on Westminster Bridge, where she is killing a troll. He tells her that Serpine is going to break the truce, and that he wants her to help him prevent war breaking out. She agrees and he tells her to go to Ireland. Whatever the truth is, it left Lord Vile trapped in Skulduggery's subconscious. Tenebrae states that because Skulduggery was trapped in a dimension with the Faceless Ones, he became unhinged, which consequently allowed Lord Vile to surface once more. In The Faceless Ones, Ghastly says that he faced Vile in the war, after his mother's death, but Vile didn't kill him. The conversation is interrupted but it can be assumed that this was when Skulduggery came to his senses and Vile "disappeared". Serpine went to the armchair by the window, watched the sun as it struggled to rise, then settled into the chair, crossed his legs, and waited for Bliss to continue. The last time they had been in the same room together, they had been trying to kill each other while a hurricane tore the place down around them.

Nefarian Serpine was Mevolent's most trusted General during the great war. He masterminded the death of Skulduggery's wife and child, killing them in front of him, knowing that Skulduggery would get too angry to think properly. He was right - Skulduggery, in his rage, wanted to kill Serpine without using his magic and grabbed the nearest weapon, which was a poisoned dagger which Serpine had laid out for him. Serpine then captured, tortured and finally killed him. Skulduggery returned seeking revenge. However, before he could punish Serpine the Truce stopped him.
