There is just something about nuns that turns a lot of guys on. Maybe it's the mystery of it all. After all, they wear the elaborate robes and live in secret, away from men. Maybe it's the Forbidden Fruit factor: you cannot have them, so, ironically, they become more appealing.

The French Céline Dion song "La Religieuse" ("The Nun") describes the internal conflict of a nun tortured by her memories of a life of passion.

Agnes (2021)

Perhaps this isn’t all that surprising because there is something about a sexy nun, isn’t there? I’ve seen many “sexy nun” outfits around Halloween but struggle to recall anyone dressing as a “sexy priest”. Apart from the “Hot Priest” in Fleabag, obviously, and Friar F**k (who featured in the classic porn parody Thobbin’ Hood), there isn’t much in the way of sexy religious men. But the fantasy of a nun gone bad is so common it can be ranked alongside sexy secretary or the naughty nurse. Knight Carim, Sister Schach, and later, Sein, Otto and Deed, of the Belkan Saint Church fill the Moe nun quota, though their habits are pretty modest. On the other hand, Sister Schach's battle armor consists of a sleeveless top, hotpants and pretty good Zettai Ryouiki. Because no one can apparently leave women alone for a single second, cinema has a long and torrid fascination with nuns in compromising positions.

Cage of Trash of the Count's Family openly flirts with the protagonist, fights, swears, and drinks. She gets away with it for a while because she's a favored priestess of the God of Death. Wasteland 2: One of the pieces of Shop Fodder that you can find is Nudie Magazine, with the flavour text Naughty Nuns Issue #74 "Meet Sister Tiffany — She's Hot for Preacher!" "Mother Superior Says You're Inferior!" Fetishized images of naughty nuns; sisters whose fidelity to God is challenged by their own overwhelming libidinous desires, are common in many modern media but the cult film sub-genre affectionately known to its enthusiasts as the Nunsploitation movie has a particular genesis and lifespan the focal point of which is Italy in the 1970s. Guilty Gear's Bridget. They're technically a bounty hunter, not a nun, but they grew up in a religious household and wear the outfit for no reason in particular. They also identify as male until Guilty Gear -STRIVE-. Although undoubtedly significant the prominence of the Catholic Church in Italian society is perhaps a less direct influence on the profusion of Nunspolitation films made in Italy in the 1970s than the economics of the exploitation film industry at that time. Popular Italian film genres such as the peplum, the giallo and the cannibal movies were crowded with as many imitators as innovators and the large number of Nunsploitation movies made in a relatively short period is consistent with this pattern. As previously noted producers were obviously keen to cash-in on the notoriety of Ken Russell's The Devils so welcomed any controversy and it’s worth noting that these were many of the same filmmakers who were concurrently churning out a cycle of Nazi-themed sexploitation films so it’s doubtful that they were too concerned about who might take offense.

In the 1974 film Seijû gakuen aka School of the Holy Beast, the 'convent' is run much like a school for wayward girls, including the typical girl-on-girl catfight. They seem to find themselves getting into and out of their habits with alarming frequency due to their constant showering and friendly experimentation, though they do engage in more nun-like activities from time to time, such as praying, scrubbing floors and whipping newcomers with thorned roses to keep it spicy. Pinku Eiga and Naughty Nuns are a perfect match. Mythica: Teela is a chaste, pious priestess starting out, and also very beautiful. She bathes regularly, saying her goddess demands the practice, and has mutual sexual tension with Thane until they finally have sex.

In the Pedro Almodóvar movie Dark Habits, the nuns are naughty in a wide variety of ways; they're sadomasochistic lesbians, drug addicts (and pushers), writers of erotic novels, and commit various other sins. Which, of course, means plenty of nunsploitation films are pornographic. Nothing raises the sexual stakes like a vow of chastity. Break it with your fellow sister or your peasant boyfriend and you’ll have to self-flagellate in front of everyone (and probably still go to Actual Hell). With so few men around, excluding the director’s chair, lesbianism is apparently par for the course. Corporeal punishment and self-imposed penance make for built-in kinkiness. A male character’s entry into a woman-only convent sealed off from the world is already a symbolic act of penetration, and the men involved regularly make it a literal one too.Kate Upton in a "nun-kini" in the 2012 film version of The Three Stooges. See for yourself. (The Moral Guardians had a field day with this one, until the director simply told them it was fiction.) Isobel Studley turns up in the records when she was committed to Clementhorpe in 1315, but it seems she did not behave herself there either, because in 1331 she was found guilty of “sins of the flesh, apostasy and other excesses” and was sent away to a priory at Yedingham.
