Description

If you are a Chinese beginner looking for suitable Mandarin Chinese textbooks, I’d like to recommend one series to you, the New Practical Chinese Reader Textbook (1-6). This textbook is just the beginning of the series. You will have another five similar books to learn from. Students also will not find pinyin while learning Chinese grammar starting from the Textbook 2 and on. Published by Cheng & Tsui, this series consists of four different volumes, covering you up to the equivalent of HSK 4. All texts come with pinyin, and all texts come with both simplified and traditional characters. Versions in English (Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese), Spanish, German, French, and Russian are available. Other versions are in the process of publication.

Practical Chinese Reader - Wikipedia

Practical Chinese Reader was completely revised in 2002 and was re-published as New Practical Chinese Reader. New teaching material and concepts were added, while older words not in common use were removed. The new series consists of six volumes: The first four target beginners, while the last two are geared for intermediate learners. The New Practical Chinese Reader pays homage to the older edition by introducing a new character, Libo, who is the son of Gubo and Ding Yun from the original edition.Das einzige, was mich etwas stört, ist die Ausrichtung auf Studenten. Da lernt man halt einige Situationen, denen man als Berufstätiger nicht ausgesetzt ist (ich kann 学院 "xueyuan" nicht mehr hören, das ist wohl das meistgebrauchte Wort in diesem Lehrbuch). The HSK series textbooks come with an accompanying CD which includes recordings of all the vocabulary lists, dialogues, and texts. Be aware that they are only printed in simplified Chinese. Those textbooks will teach you Chinese step by step. Textbook 1 offers ten new Chinese characters with every lesson, and Textbook 2 adds to ten to thirty new Chinese characters per lesson. Textbook 3 begins to teach you a larger group of new Chinese characters per lesson, while the Textbook 4 will list many Chinese characters with some common points, such as sharing the same radical. Starting from Textbook 5, no more new Chinese characters are contained in each lesson. There are graded readers written in many languages, but in Mandarin Companion's case, graded readers are written for Chinese learners. Graded readers commonly take the form of novels and are written at a targeted difficulty level or “grade.”

The Practical Chinese Reader was the first set of dedicated textbooks on basic Chinese for use by foreign students of Chinese sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Education, who commissioned three professors at Beijing Languages Institute (now Beijing Language and Culture University) to write it in the 1970s. It was praised by American and German academics in the early 1980s as practical and advanced. It also received a warm domestic welcome for its "meticulously planned" educational content and innovation in "using the communicative principle and strengthening cultural knowledge education", and won the second prize inaugural Beijing Philosophy and Social Sciences Award for Excellence. [2] New Practical Chinese Reader [ edit ] Mandarin Companion organizes its graded content into three levels: Breakthrough, Level 1, and Level 2. Ich habe das Lehrbuch mit einem Privatlehrer (1 Stunde pro Woche, 1 Lektion pro Stunde) durchgenommen, der meine Aussprache und Grammatikfehler korrigiert und Dialogübungen gemacht hat, und ich glaube zwar nicht, dass ich mich in China schon wirklich verständigen könnte, aber wenn ein Muttersprachler langsam und deutlich mit mir redet, kann ich schon vernünftig antworten ohne wie ein Homo erectus pekinensis zu klingen.Text materials are in both simplified and traditional Chinese, with pinyin and English translations included as appendix at the end of the book. The book succeeds by putting business Chinese instruction in a context relevant to most people engaging in business with China in the 21st century. Readers learn contemporary vocabulary that is actually in use in China today. Secondly, in Textbook 1, each new Chinese character is written out for you stroke by stroke. This is a very good way to remember those Chinese characters and practice writing Chinese. The HSK series is a great place to start as they are based on the (only) official standardized proficiency tests for Mandarin Chinese in China. The short answer is no! Textbooks can be a great tool to improve your Chinese, but they are no substitute for having real conversations with native speakers or listening to authentic Chinese language content such as Chinese songs or TV shows.
