brightness and deepen colors; it's a fine-tuned experience to bring more warmth and depth to bright sunlit locations, more intensity and clarity to M. Night Shyamalan's reputation has fallen on hard times. The filmmaker who burst onto the scene with 1999's The Sixth Sense and later dazzled with Unbreakable and delighted with Signs has never quite regained the momentum from his early film career, Shyamalan is aging as well, and the film provided a way for him to explore the passage of time under the guise of one of his typical thrillers. Different age groups will likely react to the film in different ways, as the horror in Old may depend on one’s proximity to it. For those who are feeling the sands of time, this particular beach may be a suitably unpleasant place to visit. eye-catching in its overall clarity and efficiency. physical changes and breakdowns. It's the mind. It's how the characters cannot cope with the sudden changes to their reality. The mind is always superior detailing, revealing a firmer foundation and superior intimates, including, of course, obvious elements like faces and sand that are constant A chilling premise and some genuinely creepy scenes keep Old infinitely watchable, even if it's apt to leave the audience feeling squeamishgenuinely authentic film-like image. The picture is not extravagant by any means, but what it is is very firm, very faithful, very pleasing and I’ve reviewed a lot of films lately that seem to be dull and downtrodden. These seem to be virtually void of any color. That’s not the case with Old. The included 4K HEVC image simply sparkles on the beach with bright blue skies, aqua water and everything in between. Of note, this is the first time Shyamalan has shot on film since The Last Airbender. And it shows. It seems to embrace the 4K format quite well. All the usual caveats are in place with amazingly sharp detail (perfect when you see those age lines), HDR and strong colors and contrast. There’s a somewhat claustrophobic feel to the film as Shyamalan shot the film in a way where he panned the beach so the actors never really knew when they were in frame. It’s an interesting approach and one that works particularly well. The included Blu-ray doesn’t exactly look bad either, though given the choice it’s clear (pardon the pun) which one to go for. Audio: How’s it sound?

Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters, never quite nails the intensity behind the mental component, focusing a bit more onA Family In The Moment (HD, 7 Mins.) - The last scene with the main family on the beach that was shot at the end of production got everyone emotional. The cast talk about this moment and show why it was such a great experience. particularly interesting and it's not difficult to guess from a mile away (literally, give or take, as the case may be). One could write a treatise on the Nightmares In Paradise (HD, 8 Mins.) - The crew discusses how they found the beach that the movie takes place in. Sounds like locations were scoured all over the world until they landed on this location. Bonus points for this one, because a few puppy dogs and sea animals are featured here. fall apart in their own ways, grasp their sudden new reality.
