The first thing to note about these amps is obviously their size. They are significantly smaller than a loaf of bread, and look amusingly small on top of a 2x12 cabinet. The Orange Micro Terror features the same rugged metal build quality as other Terror amps but at just (approximately) 9" wide by 6" tall the Micro Terror takes 'portable' to another level.

Weighing in at under 1 kilo, the Micro Terror is arguably the most portable amp head on the market. When paired with its matching PPC108 cabinet, the Micro Terror’s Aux Input and Headphone output make it a perfect practice partner, small enough for even the most cluttered sideboard. With a high tensile steel case is it built to the same rugged specifications as the other members of the Terror family and is incredibly compact and highly portable. This is a true Orange Amp classic, with masses of vintage British character, clean crunch and full-on overdrive sounds. The Micro Terror features one preamp tube (12AX7) and a 20w Solid State output section. This hybrid combination of tube and transistor allows the Micro Terror to get the warmth and complexity of tube tube tone but with the weight reduction benefit of solid state technology. So you get the portability of orange's Crush range of solid states but with a tone closer to the awesome tube tone of the Tiny Terror.

In terms of cons, the tone control is fairly basic , and only allows a certain level of tone shaping, but it does have a good range. In general, I keep it set between 11am and 1pm and find that going outside of this leads to very dark and muddy or ear-piercingly bright. An aux input allows a MP3 player or CD player to be added to the mix sent to the speaker making this a perfect tool for practising

I generally dial in a fairly transparent clean tone to use as a base for drive pedals, and have found that they work well with pedals. Obviously, there is no effects loop, so that's something to be aware of if you like running pedals through a loop. I modified my Fender Mustang 1 amp so that I could connect its speaker to the PPC108 cab and now the amp sounds even better! The sounds seems more rounded and complete somehow, so I recommend running it with two 8'' speakers if you can to get the perfect Orange sound. Having said this, the sound could never be described as 'small'. These are louder than any amp this size has a right to be. I have used mine in some big rooms and still had sound guys telling me to turn down. If you're playing in venues with microphones for electric guitar, there'll never be an issue with dialling in a great clean tone. If anything, you'll want to run them a little bit hotter (isn't that always the way with guitarists?) because in my experience the best sounds have been just on the edge of breakup.
