Description

The Dell P3222QE is an excellent monitor if you want a large 4K screen for extra space along with excellent color quality. Its default output is already good enough for regular use, but calibrating it pushes it into prosumer category. It has plenty of useful features, although we don’t like the fact that you have to spend extra to get a pair of speakers. A few permanently bright or dark pixels are considered normal by industry standards. The exact number of pixels that are allowed varies depending on the monitor. See Dell Monitor Quality and Pixel Policy for more details. The idea of this monitor is that you plug the USB-C cable into your laptop and it handles everything – you get power to charge the laptop and the same cable handles video and other accessories. So when you get home you just plug in the single USB cable and the monitor starts up, connects to your external mouse and keyboard and other devices, and charges your laptop at the same time.

Ensure that the video cable connecting the monitor to the computer is connected properly and is secure. Hard drive retention: Hard drive retention is not available on models with a soldered hard drive, including XPS 9315 2in1, Chromebooks or Venue tablets, except the Venue 11 Pro. The U3223QE’s outward appearance is virtually identical to that of the P3222QE. It’s also a conservative design with small bezels and a simple silver stand, constructed of plastic but still exuding the impression of a weighty, robust, and well-constructed build. The U3223QE is a display that won’t feel out of place in any environment, except perhaps a hardcore gamer’s setup. If that’s your situation, then MSI’s Optix MPG 32 QD will offer a bit more of a gamer’s aesthetic without going crazy.

Dell P3222QE Specifications

The image quality of the P3223QE is excellent – images had clear, bright color and sharp detail. I measured the peak brightness at 335 candela per meter square (cd/m2), which is bright enough for most uses, but not as bright as some. The color is clear and vivid, but this monitor is limited to the sRGB color gamut, so you don’t get support for the wider Adobe RGB or Rec.709 colors. That’s fine for general use, but it would be a problem for photo or video use, because it can’t show the same range of colors as a standard UHD TV. Edit video on this monitor and then show it on your TV and it will look quite different. Show a movie on it and you’ll get muted greens and blues that don’t look natural. With a 60Hz refresh rate and 5ms response time, this also isn’t ideal for gaming – although you can get away with some slower-paced ones, especially because open-world games look fabulous in 4K. However, unless you turn on V-Sync, you’ll notice some stuttering and maybe even some tearing. In addition to our formal testing, I did some ad-hoc testing of text, video, and image quality. Our test video clips showed bright colors and good contrast in both bright and dark areas. Images from our photo suite looked bright, with realistic colors. Otherwise, alternatives include the LG Ergo 32UN880 with similar specs, or the LG 32UP550at almost half the price, if you’re willing to sacrifice the IPS panel’s quality for a cheaper VA unit. How long will it last?

Dell P3222QE USB-C 31.5 Inch 4K UHD (3840x2160) Monitor, 60Hz

Beyond the warranty period, the P3222QE should last a minimum of five years too, if not longer. The LED lighting isn’t prone to failure, and there aren’t any other complexities that might detract from its potentially useful lifespan. Should I buy it? Removable pedestal stand and Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA™) 100 mm mounting holes for flexible mounting solutions. That’s pretty much all there is to the Dell P3222QE USB-C Hub. As we said, it’s a great 4K monitor fitted with the right look and the right tools for productivity. However, there’s nothing exceptional about it. Its color coverage is basic. Its selection of ports is only decent. Even the one marque feature it does have, while appealing on paper, isn’t even been well-executed.One of Dell’s strengths with its monitors is its coatings — where it used to be quite aggressive a decade ago, Dell has refined its coating process to produce a very soft anti-glare coating that is still highly effective at reducing glare. The P3222QE also has this soft coating, which makes its image pleasant on the eyes even at higher brightness levels. The U3223QE provides a ton of adjustability, a solid build, and a conservative aesthetic that fits into professional environments. It also offers wide and accurate colors (particularly in sRGB) and excellent contrast for an IPS display.

Take advantage of the Dell Display Manager software as it does add more functionalities for productivity to the Dell P3222QE USB-C Hub. It gives you access to a lot of things, from basics like choosing screen presets and adjusting brightness and contrast to smarter features like Easy Arrange, which tells the monitor to set snap to grids for a more organized desktop, and Input Manager, which lets you name your ports and set a few hotkeys for on-the-fly input switching. We have to say, though, that Input Manager would have been more appealing if it weren’t for that whole issue with the USB hub being tied to the USB-C port. Professional color graders might desire slightly better coverage of the AdobeRGB color space, but it’s hard to complain when the color accuracy is this good. Our take If you want something smaller to fit into a tighter space, the 27-inch Dell P2720C tops our list of the best monitors thanks to its lower price and good image quality. How long will it last? It’s not the largest display we’ve seen in recent times, but you do have to remember that the Dell P3222QE is still a 32-inch monitor. Its width can interfere with bookshelf speakers if you have some so some rearrangement might be necessary. It doesn’t weigh a lot at slightly under 12 pounds, so those with glass desks shouldn’t worry if this is an upsized variant. If a 4K panel is too big for you and you prefer smaller displays, the Dell P2720DC may be more up your alley. cm (31.5 in.) viewable area display (measured diagonally). 3840 x 2160(16:9) resolution, with full-screen support for lower resolutions. So, without further ado, let’s throw our Datacolor Spyder X Elite onto the P3222QE and see how it fares. Niels Broekhuijsen/Digital Trends The next time I plugged the single USB-C cable into the laptop, all of my devices (including the Ethernet) were up and running in a couple of seconds, and the laptop started charging. It’s a simple solution to the business of taking your work with you, but also having the comforts of the home office available. Dell 32 4K USB-C Hub Monitor (P3222QE) Review | PCMag

It is missing some things that would have made it more flexible, though, like a wider color gamut for video use and a KVM feature. When your office is your living room, you need devices that can be used for both work and play, and while the P3223QE is great for work, it isn’t so suited to play. Alternatively, to learn more about troubleshooting common issues on Dell monitors, see the Dell KB article132354: How to Troubleshoot Display or Video Issues on a Dell Monitor or use our Monitor self-help Guide. Common Problem One feature that is missing from this monitor is built-in KVM switch. Other monitors, such as the Dell U2723QE, allow you to switch between multiple computers from the keyboard (hence the name KVM, short for Keyboard, Video, and Mouse switch). The P3223QE only has one USB input, so while you can connect more than one computer at a time to the three video inputs, you can’t switch between them from the keyboard and keep control of each computer.Change the color-setting mode in the Color Settings On-Screen Display Menu (OSD) to Graphics or Video, depending on the application.
