Description

Because of the rapid progress of technology, Xiaomi, like many other companies, have been forced to follow the competition and create new, groundbreaking smartphones, tablets and other electronic gadgets to remain competitive. With their newest offering of the Xiaomi Poco F3 they can consider themselves successful. Many of our customers think that the original options are more quality conscious than the third-party alternatives. However, this is not the case with MyTrendyPhone, as we strive to only offer high quality items. Both types of products have the same goal to protect the smartphone to reduce the likelihood of needing a phone repair. Booting up the demanding yet hugely scalable Genshin Impact, we found that the game defaulted to Medium settings for a silky smooth experience. But we were able to then crank things up to High settings and a 60fps frame rate, and the results remained eminently playable. That’s no small feat with such a vast and visually opulent open world adventure game. The Poco F3 is an excellent phone by most standards and it is made even better by the low price tag. If you find that stunning spec sheet to be undecipherable, then just booting it up for the first time will leave a lasting impression.

Fingerprint reader: The capacitive fingerprint sensor that doubles as a power button is astoundingly fast. Pretty much every time I touched it, the phone would instantly turn on. I was very impressed. With the quality of the best cheap phones and the best mid-range phones improving all the time, it can often be hard for devices at this end of the market to stand out. Thankfully the Poco F3 manages to outperform its price tag in a number of ways. Poco F3 Design and screen – Striking but smear-susceptibleThis is a 6.67-inch AMOLED display that gets nice and bright, with a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. That’s the same as the Oppo Find X3 Pro - a phone that costs more than three times the money. You won’t get through much more than a day’s heavy usage, but that will suit most people fine as you would generally plug in your phone to charge at the end of a long day. It has Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and rear, so the phone feels fairly premium. You even get that super-reflective, fingerprint-attracting finish that flagship manufacturers seem to love. But the F3’s sides are pure plastic, albeit one that diffuses light in a vaguely metallic fashion. The camera module is led by a 48-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel ultrawide, and a 5-megapixel telemacro lens. Generally, I found images from the main sensor to be bright and punchy, with decent though not brilliant levels of detail.

Poco F3 long-term review: Display, performance, battery life Poco F3 long-term review: Display, performance, battery life

Moreover, the 5G modem means that it can access the very latest mobile data standard, not only giving you superfast internet when you’re away from the Wi-Fi, but also giving you peace of mind that it should last you for some years to come without falling too far behind newer models.Perhaps more impressively - albeit in a rather niche way - is the phone’s 360Hz touch sampling rate. This is a feature that enhances the responsiveness of your touch inputs, and is specifically targeted at gamers. Most modern flagship phones will give you 240Hz, so this is impressive stuff. There’s ample storage, with a choice of either 128GB or 256GB of speedy UFS 3.1 storage, though there’s no room for expansion. You also get 5G connectivity as standard. Xiaomi Poco F3 software

Obviously, this isn't the fastest phone around. It can't be. But unless you really want to push it with the most demanding games, it will seem incredibly fast no matter what you do with it, minute after minute, day after day. Just from the point of view of performance alone, we never felt like we were not using a flagship device while we had the Poco F3 for this review. Those plastic sides house a fingerprint sensor, which is fast and reliable. We would have liked it to be slightly recessed or textured to help find it in an instant, but it’s not a major issue. The camera here is serviceable, but it’s not flagship-rivalling as some of the other specs are. If you mainly use your phone as a camera, you should consider alternative options. And it’s still all too possible to get lost in MIUI’s labyrinthine settings menu, where not everything is where it should be. Or so it seems. That's definitely not the smartest auto-adjusting refresh rate system out there on the market, but it's probably good enough for most people. Seemingly the main selling point for being able to go more granular is to save even more battery, but as you'll see in the Battery life section of this review, the Poco F3 does very well with that as it is. On the GPU side, a 3DMark Wild Life score of 4,086 blasts past the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite and its Snapdragon 732G on 3,120. But that’s still quite a bit short of Snapdragon 888 devices like the OnePlus 9, which tend to score in the region of 5500. Ads: I did see ads while using the phone. Most of the time, they would appear after installing a new app. I also saw a few POCO/Xiaomi ads pop up in my notifications. These were annoying but not as obtrusive as I expected and didn’t show up elsewhere in the UI unlike some equivalent Redmi devices. Just about the only criticism we have related to the display is actually a criticism of the Poco F3’s MIUI software. When diving into the color scheme settings menu to play with the color balance, you’ll find that it’s set to auto by default, which “Adjusts colors based on the current lighting.”

Another element that makes the Xiaomi Poco F3 perfectly suited to gamers and video watchers on a mid-range budget is its superb screen. The official line is that it’s “Poco’s clearest display yet”, and we wouldn’t dispute that for one minute. If you’d like the official stats on this, the company claims that you’ll wring 268 hours of standby time, 10 hours of gaming, 14 hours of videos, or 149 hours of music out of the Poco F3's battery Video: Capturing video with the POCO F3 is about as good as capturing images: fine under ideal conditions, poor under anything challenging. You can choose between 720p/30fps, 1080p/30fps, 1080p/60fps, or 4K/30fps. The default is 1080p/30fps. You can film using any of the three lenses and there are some cool settings like audio zoom and an anamorphic crop. However, be careful with how you hold the phone, as the bottom microphone is super sensitive and every brush of your palm creates heavy noise.I’d advise you to use the default 60Hz option most of the time, and only change it to 120Hz when you’re undertaking an activity that would really benefit from the enhanced refresh rate. Poco F3 Camera – A pretty standard multi-cam selection The screen is one of the standout features of this device. Not only does it have an AMOLED panel, measuring in at a healthy 6.67-inches with a Full HD+ resolution (that’s 2400x1080p), but it also offers a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, 900 nits typical brightness, and a 360Hz touch sampling rate. The Xiaomi Poco F3 has got ‘one of those faces’. You swear you’ve seen it before, even if you know full well that this is the first time you’ve laid eyes on it.
