Again, this is mainly for aesthetic purposes and does not confer any significant functional benefits. Price: In comparison, the paintwork on the Elites/Sports can chip if they’re abused, can scratch your tiled floor, and can be quite loud when they hit the floor. Both sets go up to 90 lbs per dumbbell. This is plenty of weight for the vast majority of lifters on the vast majority of exercises. You’ll notice that some models in the chart below have different “stages” (i.e. Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3). What this means is that you can expand the weight capacity of the base dumbbell set (i.e. the Stage 1 set) with a Stage 2 expansion kit and then a Stage 3 expansion kit. The closed handle design was on many different models in the past. Currently, the closed handle design is only seen on the Elite USA dumbbells. It’s characterized by padded wrist supports at the top of the handle (as shown in the photo above). This creates a more restricted handle opening, hence the “closed” handle terminology.

The Sport Series, like the Pro Series, has 3 different dumbbell models in its lineup, including one expandable model and two non-expandable models: While this is a very light adjustable dumbbell set, it’s a full 8 lbs heavier than the Sport 24, which is the lightest model in the Sport Series. Sport Series If budget is a major concern, then either the Elite 90 set or the Sports EXP Stage 3 set may be the best choice for you. I’ll discuss those models next. #2 Elite USA 90 Set & #3 Sport EXP Stage 3 Set In contrast, the Pro 32, 50, and 50 EXP all feature urethane-coated steel which is more durable. Price: If you don’t need the urethane coating and barbell compatibility (and let’s face it many of us don’t), then the Elite EXP and Sport EXP both give you everything the Pros offer for a fraction of the price.

A Fantastic Space-Saving Option

This can then be upgraded to 70lbs and 90lbs per dumbbell using the stage 2 and stage 3 addon kits (respectively). Occasionally you’ll encounter a situation where the extra few millimeters might help. But one can see in the photo that you chose (bent over dumbbell row) that the individual in the photo (Is that you

But, like anything else, these aren’t perfect. They won’t feel like traditional dumbbells, and the handle might be a little uncomfortable for some people. Like you thought, the Elite set is slightly more compact than the U90 set in length, width and height. It’s not a major difference, but it’d be noticeable if you compared them side by side. The Elite 5-50 is 12″L x6″ W x 6″ H at 50 lbs, vs. the U90 Stage 1, which is 12.5″ L x 7″ W x 7.25″ H at 50 lbs.

Again, while the caged handle doesn’t bother me, I recognize that people used to lifting with traditional fixed dumbbells might not like the feeling. It might take some getting used to. But, it’s a small sacrifice to make considering the big value you get from these. A Little Noise

Even though these are my favorite adjustable dumbbells, they aren’t without their flaws. High Weight Bulkiness If you want the most room for your wrist/forearm to move around. The Pro EXP has more space inside the handle than any other home-use model thanks to the combo of an open handle design with a wedge handle shape.Other than the expandability of their models, the other difference between the Elites and Sports lies in their material. This is a non-expandable model. There are no expansion kits to increase it beyond its max weight of 24 lbs. As such, it’s only a good idea to buy this model if you’re specifically looking for a light adjustable dumbbell set. With so many models, each having its own unique set of features, capabilities and limitations, it takes some effort to familiarize yourself with not only the major distinctions between models but also their more subtle differences.

In comparison, the Elites have a lower-quality powder-coating that can damage your floor and emits a metallic clink when dropped. Price: Good to hear you have the Ironmasters, too. You’ll have no shortage of weight if you get the 120 lb and 165 lb add-on kits! Reply These are essentially the standard Pros but kitted with premium materials worth being used in a commercial gym.It comes with a dumbbell stand. The stand will fit both dumbbells at their full length. Plus it has a section in the center to store the second pair of swappable handles. Unfortunately, no. They don’t have any plans to release any expansion kits to go beyond 90 lbs for any of the HOME USE models. These 100 pound adjustable dumbbells are the only adjustable dumbbells trusted in training facilities of pro teams across all leagues and in NCAA training facilities. The color bands on the rails correspond with the weight chart on the handle to show what will be selected.
