About this deal

There are wonderful benefits to being part of this spiritual family. First, it’s everlasting—having a family on earth is amazing in its own way, but it only lasts as long as your lifetime. On the other hand, your spiritual family not only lasts through this life but also in eternity where you’ll enjoy God’s blessings and rewards together. Second, your spiritual family will never abandon you or stop loving you—you’ll always feel loved and secure in this family. There are little tasks given, which makes this book, not only readable, but encourages you to be mentally interactive. Tests your commitment, to wanting to change and learn. I am concerned that some churches are abandoning Bibles for their studies and studying this book instead. Any book that causes people to take their eyes off God and onto a man made method is a danger. Challies expresses my concerns clearly in this post

Behavioral Teaching – Each aspect of the program helps people become “doers” and not mere listeners. After each section there is a homework assignment, activity or event. It is painful for me to read that book. Every chapter is like a slap. Every paragraph had given me heartaches. But it’s okay because your book deserves to be read. It will urge you to answer God’s call to service even when the call is for something you’re not particularly gifted at. While your main focus is your unique ministry, your second focus is any call to service. Someone without a servant’s heart only responds to calls for their main ministry, and selfishly ignores God’s calls for other types of service. The fifth purpose is your mission. Whereas your ministry is how you serve other believers, your mission is your service to unbelievers. God wants you to spread word of his love, his glory, and the promise of eternal life to unbelievers, through your unique mission and a shared mission. Keep It All in BalanceDays 15-21 are about considering (i) your place in God’s family and how you treat your family members, (ii) how you can give priority to your relationships, (iii) how you committed/involved you are to your local church (the body of Christ), (iv) if/how you can build real fellowships or the shared experience of Christian life (not just socializing with church friends), (v) how to make peace and repair broken fellowships, and (vi) protect the unity of the Church). YOUR 3RD PURPOSE: BECOMING CHRIST-LIKE A dear friend mentioned that the youngest child of Warren committed suicide this year, April 5, 2013 after struggling with mental illness that caused severe depression. In my life, I've seen several similar cases like this: a successful parent losing a child possibly because the celebrity parent got too focused with fame and in the process neglected his o her own family. But I do not know Warren's complete story so I'd rather keep my comments to myself. I am starting this book today. I am also going to do what it suggests - only read one chapter a day for 40 days. So that means, I will finish this book in a little over a month. How can you encourage someone else to become more involved in your church? (For example, you introduce yourself to newcomers and make a point to invite them to events.) It takes a lot of work to build a healthy, loving fellowship, but God reveals how to do so through his Word. Everyone’s fellowship community will look a little different, but they should have the same basic elements. A Fellowship Community’s Five Essential Elements

The Purpose Driven Life Book Summary by Rick Warren - Shortform The Purpose Driven Life Book Summary by Rick Warren - Shortform

For Days 8-13, Warren walks you through various aspects of how you can please God (i) with specific acts of worship, (ii) by offering/surrendering yourself to God fully, (iii) deepening your friendship with Him, and (iv) worshiping him even when he seems far away and unresponsive. These areas are further elaborate in our complete The Purpose Driven Life summary. FULFILLING YOUR 2ND PURPOSE: BEING AN INTEGRAL PART OF GOD’S FAMILY Whereas your ministry is your service to other believers, your mission—your responsibility to go out into the world as a witness and messenger of God’s glory—is your service to unbelievers. In this last week of your journey, we’ll discuss how your mission is some of your most important work for a number of reasons: Reason 4: There is life beyond this. The Bible explains that after this life, God’s children who have served him can look forward to a life in eternity. Purpose driven living ensures that you’ll receive the promise of this eternal life. We have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life. Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity? Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes for my life? God didn't put us on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what we are than what we do. However, if your interest turns into envy—that is, you begin to resent ways in which you weren’t made like others, or compare your unique work to that of others—you lose sight of the meaning and purpose of your life. How Envy Hurts YouYou discover the ministry you were made to perform through self-examination—thinking about what service you’re cut out for—and trial and error—trying out different types of service until you find the right fit. This type of honesty allows group members to work through issues instead of hiding them or diminishing them—actions that create underlying frustration or hurt in the group, eventually causing it to crumble. In a way, I'm lying by saying I "finished reading" this. Truthfully, I was enjoying this novel and it's meaningful messages. However, silly me set it down God knows where (I mean this literally because I have no idea where it is) and it's been over a week of looking and I still can't find it. So I thought I'd write a review of how it was going up until I went and freakin' lost the book. Yay me.

The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For? The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For?

This book teaches its reader God's five purposes for his or her life on earth: He makes you a member of His family, a model of His character, a magnifier of His glory, a minister of His grace, and a messenger of His Good News to others. The way God planned for you to serve others is uniquely yours. It may not be obvious to you what this unique ministry is yet. This is normal; many people aren’t sure what they’re good at or haven’t yet tried out the type of service that feels right. God will give you conflicts, changes, and success to challenge your faith, your character, your love, and so on. Knowing that your struggles are tests gives them meaning. God’s greatest desire is that you become close to him as you would a trusted friend—make sure you’re dedicating time to deepening that relationship.

There are also many quotable quotes that were able to inspire me there past few weeks. The book is designed to be read one chapter a day for the reader to "digest" and ponder the point that the chapter wants to convey. I recently had a couple of misunderstandings with someone close to me and this book became my companion in threshing out what could be done to fix things. Warren actually helped me in seeing things at that someone's points of view so saying sorry, forgetting and granting forgiveness were not really that difficult. But the book and the instructions there just seemed so commanding. Christianity isn't like that. God isn't manipulative. He is a loving God. In this book, I felt like God was so killjoy and he just want us to do the things that He wants and that will please Him. That if we follow our will, there will be doom and gloom. In living the purpose-driven life, you’ll start to find meaning in every moment of your life. You’ll learn to see the glory of God everywhere, deepen your love for others, find the unique service you were made for, and prepare your character for the promise of eternal life. The Five Purposes
