About this deal

On the downside, there is no bag or case to store the included adapters. Also, this Ring model does heat up after several minutes of operation, although this is fairly common with compressors. Lastly, the air cord is a little short. C– Diameter 2mm, Length 32mm, open ended with 1mm Hole 5mm from end. Inflate balls with this adapter. The mini test pitched the Ring RAC900 Air Compressor against a newly released product, and assessed both on inflation rate, hose and lead length, as well as the accessories that come with each. The Ring RAC900 performed well across the board, being named “a great little machine”. During inflation, “Ring has the edge”, adding 3PSI more per minute to the tyre compared to the competition. The analogue gauge was “more accurate”, the air release valve was noted, as was the fact that “everything goes together via quality brass fittings”.

Unfortunately that’s where the similarity ends, because with this Ring RAC700 the compressor-mounted gauge, standard-length air hose, and 12V plug on the power lead are all much more like the budget DIY models on our test bench. I’ve used it to top up car and motorbike pressures and once to seat a stubborn tubeless tyre on a mountain bike. I like the screw-on fittings and long hose but generally think a digital gauge is easier to use than an analogue one. It’s a hefty bit of kit, but super speedy and surprisingly quiet. Unfortunately, the Screwfix master plug is as stated a 10A rated item, whereas the Ring RAC 900 the OP has is rated at 30 Amps, massively higher. If you can’t find the help needed on our DIY blog then why not head over to our forum where you can can help from both tradesmen and other DIY experts.

Tyres will gradually lose pressure and most people's requirement for a tyre pump will be to 'top up' that pressure occasionally. A 12V pump is ideal for that purpose, but, to handle the pressure and volume of air in a motorhome's tyres, the pump needs to be a good one. I wouldn't have thought that the 42 seconds the on-test RAC-900 took to inflate a motorhome tyre from 50psi to 60psi can be classed as "an eternity". See images of battery connections below: The Compressor’s SpringClips Connected To The Car Battery RAC900 30 Amp Fuse (Cover Removed) Suitable for motorhomes, trailers and 4x4s, it makes a great option for multi-vehicle households and could save you quite a bit of money in fuel consumption over the years. It also comes in a handy carry bag and various valve adaptors, making it easy to transfer from one vehicle to another.

Ring RAC900 Air Compressor gets 4.5 Stars from Auto Express

In testing, our team also realised that they preferred screw-on style couplings between the air hose and the tyre valve, as they are easier to use than other types and more foolproof, too. If you need air at the side of the road either drive to a garage if its just low or change the wheel. With the RING Automotive Air Compressor RAC900 the hose is attached by screwing the brass Schrader valve attachment onto the valve until it seals against a sealing ring. The valve attachment has a push and turn mechanism to allow the tyre to be deflated when the pressure is too high while the compressor is still attached to the wheel valve. The compressor comes with an instruction label attached to the pipe but it may rip off easily. As it stands though I’m more likely to reach for my more convenient battery-powered pump when it comes to squeezing a few extra PSI into my tyres. The inflation rate quoted is ‘under four minutes to get a tyre from flat to 35PSI’. By contrast, the Ring RAC900, for instance, takes just one minute and 40 seconds to inflate a tyre to 35PSI. While this 12V digital air compressor is not the most accurate nor the most durable, it is handy and stores neatly in your car boot. Unfortunately, the instructions are very poor and we’d advise you to try it out several times on arrival to familiarise yourself with the product. The robust metal body and anti-vibration feet make this a durable inflator, ideal for trade use. Has an analogue dial that shows pressure in PSI, kPA, bar and lb/cm2. Comes with valve adaptor set and storage case. Other than road rescuers, this would suit camping and caravanning supremely well, where you’ve got a bit of extra space to carry it and perhaps a leisure battery to hook it up to. Ring could extend its usefulness by offering this pump with a couple of different power leads though. If it was easy enough to fit a three-pin plug for example, I’d happily leave this handy unit set up in my garage.
