Just like its brother, there are rings that tell the time. One of them reads the minutes in an hour while the other reads the hours in a day. In all likelihood, watches like this will be rare and unavailable to all but the most knowledgeable collectors in a few short years. Similarly, the yellow on the bezel insert has a metallic shine that changes in tone with the light. The hour hand in red was a great touch, and helps maintain the warm, playful feeling of the watch. The watch looks rugged. It comes in a khaki green colour that isn’t the most formal. Its appearance won’t do anything to help your outfit. However, it’d be great to hunt with – its green body camouflages well.

The sharp hands are fully lumed, and the second hand is lumed on its counterweight with a flash of red on the pointer end. All surfaces and angles on the case, dial, hands, and indices must be flat and geometrically correct to optimally reflect light. The qualities that give it such a straightforward appearance are a nod to the watch’s military roots, but they’re also a great opportunity for Seiko to show off its ability to build an insanely high-quality watch and sell it for peanuts. The Seiko 5 SNK805 is one of the best mechanical wristwatches in this price range. It has everything and more that you may want, expect and need in a timepiece in this price range.A few small gripes pop up along the way, but they’re not enough to tarnish what is otherwise a great watch with a solid value proposition. Beyond the strap, there’s not much to complain about, and the Seiko gives watches costing twice as much a run for their money.

Regarding the looks of the Timex MK1 Mechanical, it has a classic ‘60s to ‘80s military vibe. In my view, this more faithful look makes it a little less versatile than the Seiko. It’s more casual and tool-looking, but I don’t think that would stop me from wearing it wherever during the Summer. Like the SNK805, the Timex also uses a two-piece 18mm nylon strap. With the MK1, though, there’s a nice stripe down the center that feels like a classy touch. The strap is also seriously comfortable, and I see no reason to swap it out for something else. Sporty, more relaxed and easily worn in less formal situations, this watch is something you can wear outside, doing sports or doing almost anything actually. I just would not expect it to look the part if you are out on the town. There’s a calendar on it. It reads the day as well as the date. Something neat about it is that the day and date are in contrasting colours. The dial shows a sort of sunburst metallic canary yellow at times, and a more muted, mellow warm yellow at other times. My personal thoughts on the Seiko 5 SNK805 are overwhelmingly positive. This is a lightweight, yet durable watch that is incredibly comfortable, contains effortless style, and somehow transcends a lot of different price levels. It fits within that weird window of prior generation Seiko watches that somehow get a knowing nod from Seiko-philes and high-end watch wearers alike. The timepiece is automatic. It comes with the 7S26 movement. We met the mechanism in its brother’s review, but in case you forgot, there are 21 jewels and a 41-hour power reserve. It’s been reported that it can last 43 hours, though. The timepiece comes with the 7S26B movement. It has 21 jewels between its gears and a 41-hour power reserve. No, the jewels aren’t real. They’re synthetic. They’re placed between gears to reduce friction. The more present, the more accurate your watch would be. 21 is a standard amount.

The watch also features a red-tipped second hand. The opposing side of this hand has a luminous dot, much like the meatball on an SKX, allowing you to read the seconds in the dark. Its dial is dark green while its hour markers are white. The contrast lets you read them easily. The watch has 2 rings marking the hours passed. One of them reads the time in a 24-hour format while the other reads it in a 12-hour standard. Having military time available is expected as field watches were made for soliders. It’s great looking, durable, robust, and powered by automatic mechanical movement. This means that amongst watch collectors and enthusiasts, it is a watch that is appreciated and respected. It goes to show that price isn’t everything in the watch-collecting hobby.

In terms of design, it can be classified as a field watch. It has a sleek profile and a clear military-inspired look. This is further extended via the green color of the dial and strap that the SNK805 has. This model is also available in other colors to suit all tastes. That is why this watch is so impressive. You don’t need to wind it, or change the battery. So long as you constantly wear it, it will last and run for years and years. The watch isn’t that big. It comes in at 1.45 inches (37 mm).It weighs more than its brother, though. Timex deserves a lot of credit for making the MK1 Mechanical because it answers a real ask from a lot of watch collectors. The fact that we have a cool, military-inspired, and manual wind watch for under €200 makes me realize that the watch world listens every so often. Much like the Seiko, the Timex is lightweight, easy to love, and really nice looking. What do you think? The Seiko or the Timex? About its case – it’s made from stainless steel. Its bezel is as well. We’re happy that they aren’t poor in quality. Water ResistanceAlthough it is not technically a Nato Strap, because it does not weave under the watch and come off easily like they do, it still looks the same.
