Fitting The Shotgun kids seat mounts to the frame tubes and can accommodate tops tubes from 30 – 68mm wide, and down tubes from 30 – 100mm wide. How easy it is to get the Shotgun Pro on and off your bike is, in our opinion, the major reason to upgrade from the original Shotgun (if you’re tall enough and the Pro is a good fit for you.)

The length of the inside leg of the shotgun seat is 210mm, and the outside leg of the shotgun seat is 258mm in length. Your child will love riding up front when they have their own handlebars and grips to hold onto. The shotgun bars provide a warmer alternative for little hands, and stop your co-pilot from playing with your gears, brakes and dropper post! The granting of a best price is not combinable with other promotions (e.g. "free articles) from Bike-Discount. Open-style or “no harness” front-mounted child bike seats are mounted closer to the adult and are meant to fit kids ages 2 to 5. For parents that like the experience of riding with a front mounted seat but have an older child that’s too big for a traditional seat, this style is an ideal option. IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTE FOR THE ORIGINAL SHOTGUN: If your down tube is wider than your top tube, the metal legs will bow out and bend as you screw on the foot pegs at the bottom of the legs. This is normal. We initially thought we had ruined our seat by bending those legs, but we verified with Kids Ride Shotgun that this should be expected. We did not experience this on the 2.0.The Shotgun Pro seat is suitable for dropper posts and all common seat post sizes, including 27.2mm, 30.9mm, 31.6mm and 34.9mm. Fitting requires 14mm of available seat post space. To the uninitiated, it can be quite alarming when first looking at the Mac Ride and Shotgun kids seats. Where are the straps and seat belts? It’s true, aside from the footstraps there are no straps to hold your kid in. But have no fear, just like when they ride their own bikes, once on, straddling the top tube and in the footstraps, your kid feels really secure. After a couple of minutes of car park testing, our team felt 100% confident on mellow trails, with toddlers from 2 years old. As soon as your kid jumps on it all makes sense and feels very safe. Will a front-mounted MTB kids seat fit my bike? There are two main types of bike seats available: rear and front bike seats. With both a rear bike seat and a front seat, some parents can travel with two children at once.

If you’re planning on introducing your little one to the trails, the Shotgun seat is a solid and affordable bet. Mountain bike frames come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes and the Shotgun seat will likely fit them all (unless it’s an ebike!). It can even be adjusted to fit bikes with wider tubing. Long story short, we're yet to find a mountain bike the shotgun seat won't fit – with the only exceptions being listed below: The shotgun seat will not fit: The easily adjustable six-point harness straps made this seat a firm contender for one of the best child bike seats around. There are also adjustable foot straps, which make it super easy to slot little feet in place. It’s advertised for children from nine months to three years old, and it complies with the European EN14344 safety standard.

MOUNTING LIMITATIONS: Best for use on a bike with a front suspension fork (bikes without suspension fork often don’t have enough clearance between the front wheel and down tube). Fits bikes with top tubes 35 – 68mm wide and down tubes from 35 – 100mm wide. The shotgun seat doesn't fit e-mtb's because of the variance between the top tube and the down tube being too great. We have had a handful of customers who have modified their shotgun seat to fit their e-mtb, but that's not something we can recommend. Can I use the shotgun seat on my carbon frame? The footrests attached to the legs are like mini MTB pedals with grip to keep kids feet in place better. Over the years we’ve ridden bikes with different types of child ‘attachment’. Both my wife and I have had our two sons pulled along in covered trailers with big flags on for increased noticeability, had our kids fall asleep behind us in child seats for then to then dangle over the side – hands perilously close to spokes, and later, tag-along style kit. None have been anywhere near as much fun and as engaging as the Shotgun that we’ve been using since early this year. Fitting requires 10mm of clearance under the stem. Bikes with stems shorter than 50mm in length may require additional clearance under the stem, the minimum clearance required is indicated in the diagram below.

In the images below you can see how the child’s helmet is close to Carrie’s chin, but falls a few inches lower on Brian’s chin. (And realistically, this is Carrie’s bike and Brian could actually sit a bit higher than this on his own bike, increasing that space even more.) With a child this size, the Shotgun Pro is still a fine fit for Brian, but not as much for Carrie.Although the Mac Ride does attach to the seat post of the bike, it’s compatible with dropper posts. The clamp just needs to be attached below the moving portion of the seat post. With these changes Lauren set out for some downhill shuttle rides to test the performance of the seat. She was pleasantly surprised by her experience as those minor adjustments made for an incredible riding experience! It felt safer, more playful, and way more comfortable. For Lauren, the child sitting lower is a big deal as she is a shorter rider and loves a good downhill shuttle ride with her little one (I mean pedaling extra weight uphill isn’t always the most fun). Foot peg Settings: The Original Shotgun has only one setting for the foot pegs where kids rest their feet. The 2.0 has two settings so that the foot pegs can be adjusted lower as your child grows. Since the original seat was launched in 2017 the Kids Ride Shotgun brand have seen a big increase in the use of e-MTBs around the world and a large amount of mountain biking families wanting to fit the Shotgun child seat to high-end carbon fibre mountain bikes.
