Replace the dehumidifier charcoal every few months to ensure your moisture absorber keeps working. Method 4: Silica Gel Moisture Absorbers Before moving to useful tips on how to choose the perfect rechargeable dehumidifier, we would like to explain how this stuff works. Rechargeable dehumidifiers are filled with some absorbent material (usually it's silica gel crystals) that extracts water from the air. In other words, they operate in a similar way to a sponge. The unit can absorb up to 5 ounces of moisture, which equals 20 - 30 days of operation before renewing depending on your room conditions. It really does a decent job and is quite easy to use. Just set it and forget it! The SRMTS Desiccant Dehumidifier has been a decent addition to my small bathroom. It effectively prevents dampness and mould, especially in colder temperatures, as it can extract up to 1-3 litres of moisture per day and operate efficiently in temperatures as low as 1°C. I find this feature particularly useful during the winter months.

An alternative to using a desiccant dehumidifier is to use a refrigerant dehumidifier. Refrigerant dehumidifiers work by drawing air into the unit, where it is passed over a cold evaporator coil. As the air cools, the moisture in it condenses and collects in a water tank or drain hose, while the dry air is reheated and returned to the room. Refrigerant dehumidifiers are generally more energy-efficient than desiccant dehumidifiers and are better suited for use in larger spaces or higher humidity environments. However, they can be noisier and may not be as effective at lower temperatures. Dehumidification CapacityOur trials showed that moisture absorbers won’t do much to reduce damp in a room that’s routinely used for drying laundry. So moisture absorbers can help with small day-to-day damp issues, but shouldn’t be relied upon for any serious damp-busting.

I recently had the chance to try out the EcoAir DD128 Blue Desiccant Dehumidifier and I must say, it definitely lived up to its promise of providing efficient humidity control. The compact design made it easy to place in any room without taking up too much space or being an eyesore. Dehumidifying the air in your home may not be as difficult as you might think. Depending on the humidity levels you have, you might not need an air conditioning system. After using the Meaco DD8L Junior Dehumidifier, I was impressed by its ability to remove up to 8 litres of water from the air at various temperatures. This high capacity water extraction helps prevent condensation, mould, and damp-related damage, making it particularly effective in cold environments such as boats and garages. If you’re looking for an efficient desiccant dehumidifier with a compact design, the EcoAir DD3 Classic Slimline is worth considering. These crystals are used in commercially available dehumidifiers, so they are very effective. You will save money by doing it yourself rather than paying for fancy housing. The Gurin DHMD-110 is one of the least expensive dehumidifiers that use silica gel on the market today. Yet, it even outpaces its competitors in terms of capacity and absorption speed. Some dehumidifier brands routinely do well or badly in our tests, while others are a lot more hit and miss. Attach the electric machine fan to the larger heat sink. The Peltier module can increase in temperature. The heat sink will dissipate the heat. The fan is going to draw the air into the larger heat sink. Flip the heat sink and apply the heat sink compound to the position where you attach the Peltier module.

PORTABLE COMPACT DESIGN– Our portable reusable dehumidifier is ideal to use all year round in cars, caravans or motorhomes, continuously absorbing excess moisture from the air. You can even use it indoors at home or at work close to a window you want to demist. It doesn’t take up much space as it only measures just H200 x W115 x D35mm. Look at our test scores. Every dehumidifier we review has an energy efficiency rating, so our highest-scoring models are most likely to be the least wasteful. Our dehumidifiers use the natural drying properties of various materials to remove humidity from the air. Instead of using an electric dehumidifier, give one of these methods a try, and you can see benefits, including:

Capacity Control Options

Smart features So-called 'smart' dehumidifiers can be controlled via a smartphone app as well as the standard control panel. This could come in handy if you want to turn your dehumidifier on or off or adjust the settings, such as fan speed, while you're in another room or even out of the house. Keep in mind that smart models tend to be more expensive. Wheels/castors These could come in useful if your dehumidifier is heavy – they can weigh from 6kg to more than 16kg.
