However, although he explains his mental health and BPD well, I found it hard to relate to many of the points, and because of this, some parts felt not relevant or repetitive. He's such a force of good and his uncompromising honesty about how he has lived and how BPD affects him can only help other people with BPD and just spread a little bit more understanding of mental illness. But through this book, Joe is also an incredible advocate for those struggling with addiction and/or their mental health. Talking about the bad things you've done, mental illnesses you may have and your lowest points is possibly the most difficult thing for anyone to do. Joe Tracini manages to tell the story of someone (himself) who is fighting to survive on a daily basis without it ever becoming self-pitying or depressing (although, obviously, the book deals with topics such as mental illness, addiction, self-harm, and drug abuse, among others).

Ten Things I Hate About Me by Joe Tracini | Hachette UK

Whether you can completely relate, relate to just some bits or even not at all, it's his truth, in fact it's so many of our truths. I don't owe Joe Tracini my life, but I do owe him for the silly joy of his captivatingly cringy dance videos in lockdown. But the lost has miraculously been found and over the Christmas holidays I have been able to launch into the second half.In August 2011, it was announced that Tracini would be joining the cast of long-running Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks in the role of Dennis Savage. His previous TV acting credits have included the BBC Three comedy series Coming of Age and the Boomerang children's sitcom My Spy Family.

I don’t have the words to explain how helpful it is to know that you’re not alone, that you’re not the only one to have a broken brain if i can say it like that. In 2003, he received the title of ‘British Junior Magical Champion’ which he won at the Blackpool Opera House in front of 3,000 international magicians. The following year, having started his studies at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, he went on to perform in a number of their in-house productions including A Chorus Line and Sexual Perversity in Chicago, as well as a tour version of Richard III, in which he portrayed the title character. But he didn’t die, and like many who consider taking their own lives, he hid the attempt, slipping back into his daily life with a hoarse voice, a raw neck, and vague explanations.Gadsby grew up as the youngest of five children in an isolated town in Tasmania, where homosexuality was illegal until 1997. World snooker champion Ronnie O'Sullivan's first-volume autobiography Ronnie was a major best seller, acclaimed for its candour and insight into the life of a top sports star. In 2007, Tracini was also cast in the role of Darren 'DK' Karrimore in a pilot for the new BBC Three situation comedy Coming of Age. For those that do not suffer from a mental illness, can you imagine that scenario playing out hundreds to thousands of times a day with each task, interaction, or memory?

Joe Tracini has a fairly brilliant way of storytelling and sharing a conversation about mental health. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust. Perhaps a lot is wearily familiar, but he does have interesting things to say, for example about the differences between private rehab and state funded rehab (and no, not that paying gets you something better) He also does two sorts of questioning about underpinning philosophies and approaches - there's the delusional questioning (trying to wriggle out of it, you might say), and some which are worthy of serious and wider consideration. I have BPD, and this was less of a 'self-help' book and more of a commiserations book, and that's why I adored it.

I first heard of Joe through his Twitter videos and I also saw him in the online panto he did for Sheffield during lockdown. Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister's recent death.

In my opinion, this book is a must-read for anyone trying to better understand other people's experiences, and to really appreciate that you can never, ever tell what a person may be going through just by looking at them. You’re not in for a self help book journey, this is about having someone telling you they understand how you feel and how fucked up your brain can be.
