I know this answer is coming late, but as someone who had the 3rd edition and upgrated to the 4th edition I can answer this definitely. It was published in 2015, and ever since became a complete classic, gaining good reviews across all skill levels. Jesus de la Villa's book comes highly-recommended by a coach (a Russian IM) whom I approached about this question.

IM Mark Dvoretsky wrote an excellent book on theoretical endgames ( Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual), but this book is large and difficult to finish. That said, it doesn't always explain the "why" of all moves and it's not obvious (as a beginner) if this is a waiting move that could be played anywhere, or if it's critical to be the move shown. Our resources are crucial for knowledge lovers everywhere—so if you find all these bits and bytes useful, please pitch in.One side of the card had the position, the solution was written out on the reverse, and she quizzed herself until she knew all 100. The many practical exercises that De la Villa has selected will help you improve and retain what you have learned. The ONLY difference in the new edition is that diagrams have an indicator of who is to move, and glancing at the text below the diagram it's very easy to see who is to move if you can't already figure it out based on the particular ending you are studying, if you already have the 3rd and you want this "feature" just go through the book with a pencil and mark every diagram with W/B for who has the move, everything else in the book word for word is IDENITCAL, yes I went through each page and did not see ANY difference whatsoever. The instructional explanations, the many diagrams and the pleasant presentation make this endgame book an interesting publication for club players with a rating from 1600. To show the patterns as clearly as possible, he mainly concentrates on positions in which both sides have just one piece. Some of those 100+ endgames are very rare in practice, a fact that's acknowledged by the author himself. Most of the patterns Jesus de la Villa presents in this new book are from the phase of the game just before a theoretical endgame turns up. I always when I study a book I set up the position and before reading variations I think over the board (without engine). Former Women’s World Chess Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk] said she had really enjoyed De la Villa’s 100 Endgames You Must Know and had made flashcards out of the 100 positions.

My own assessment of Silman's material is that while it has rich instructive content, I find the style of presentation (cynical, demeaning of the players at times) unappealing. De la Villa does a truly wonderful job of explaining useful endgames in a calm and measured manner that is clear enough for any strength of player to understand while still being interesting for stronger players.

Also, I like very much the fact the Author spent time into making a very high quality introduction, unlike many other Authors that tends to squash useless stuff into the introduction just because they think no one reads it anyway. If some of them almost never occur, at the very least the book should make it clear which ones are must know and which ones are optional.Si bien algunos son más necesarios que otros, los parámetros que ofrece para poder comprenderlos son muy interesantes.
