About this deal

We teach kids 21st-century skills using hi-tech spy stories, because not every kid wants to be a coder, but almost everyone wants to be a spy! Join the Children’s Spy Agency and master coding, critical thinking, and top-secret skills through our captivating books and hands-on activity packs. Asha Joshi is such a fun main character, one who loves nothing more than beating an algorithm or getting some coding in, she even configured a hamster robot companion named Tumble and has a nanny bot named Drone, who accompany her throughout her adventures. The accompanying app has ongoing puzzles to solve, with new missions and training and this is excellent for helping children to develop STEM skills such as problem-solving and coding. It brings a world which kids will probably need to know about (privacy, data, online advertising) as they grow up, into focus in an exciting and relatable way.

Teaching Resources Made Easy Literacy Shed Plus - Teaching Resources Made Easy

We offer a development budget, mentoring from industry biggies, a network to tap into, friendly partners to talk to, including Warner Bros. Tech Advisor highlights its " story-led, screen-free way into the KS1 and KS2 Computing Curriculum," and The Huffington Post applauds its role in breaking down stereotypes in STEM fields. As well as the illustrations which accompany the main story, there’s also more techie type illustrations (which also follow along with the story), from fake news warning pages (‘warning: pizza causes diarrhoea, which was absolutely low-key amusing and an illuminated open book which Asha can open, revealing more swanky gadgets for her to utilise during her adventures! This is a discussion activity linked to Agent Asha, full of questions, non-fiction learning and critical thinking. What do you do when you’re recruited into a secret spy agency and have to take down someone who’s threatening to take over the internet? This is a great, very realistic game with a mobile application that’s working really well and providing lots of interaction and learning.

Sophie worked at Code Club, alongside Google and the Department for Education, to help introduce the new coding curriculum in primary schools. Anjan Sarkar studied illustration at Manchester Metropolitan University, then worked as a barista, barman, document scanner, online content developer, graphic designer and now, freelance illustrator.I think I was more excited than my daughter with the super cool agent ID card that came with the book! It combines big ideas and puzzling questions into twist-y, turn-y STEM-themed adventures that teach kids the foundational skills of computer science: logic, sequencing and critical thinking. I enjoyed the book thoroughly with all funny words like poopagen for fast constipation relief, the selfie fart stink which if anyone else touches except Asha will last out a smelly long lasting fart. It is mapped onto key National Curriculum Computing KS1 and KS2 concepts including algorithms, conditionals and debugging.

Crossing cultures: how I created Asha At the time of Asha’s inception, I did not fully understand all the issues of cultural appropriation or the creative challenges I would face. Sophie previously worked at Code Club, alongside Google and the Department For Education, to help introduce the new coding curriculum in primary schools. If you are under 16, please obtain your parent/guardian’s permission before submitting or ask your parent/guardian to submit on your behalf.Since the package arrived with "Top Secret" printed on the front; I entered into the spirit of the thing and never opened it (to check contents). I would recommend this book to people who have read the previous book Mission Shark Bytes and for people who enjoy Agent Zaiba and Vi Spy.

Young Asha isn’t afraid to think for herself too, all the more reason as to why I’d definitely encourage younger readers to pick this one up!

We bought the Detective Dot Spy Megapack as a present for my son's 8th birthday and I would definitely recommend it. Beautifully illustrated, this STEM-focused and female-led novel is underpinned by elements of the KS1 and KS2 National Curriculum, aiming to explain and demonstrate concepts such as algorithms, the world wide web, and debugging, amongst others. From the moment they receive their TOP SECRET envelope and you are shooed away, you know they're hooked. You can use the app as a bribe to get them to read, but the fact that the app features the book is a brilliant incentive anyway.
