About this deal

The speaker is surprisingly loud for its size, and the sound quality is better than most other Anker speakers. There is an optional carrying case which provides an IPX4 rating that protects against water splashes. While most people have gotten used to referring to wattage in RMS, there are still companies that put out “PMPO” (Peak music power output) wattage in their advertisements in a way to make their products come across as louder than they are.

What at first seems to be a complete disregard of any aesthetic standards of the present, turns out to be a partially adapted compromise on closer inspection: high gloss elements and rounded edges fit too well into the smooth present and too little to the otherwise unadapted Exos-9. We’ve included several of the loudest large Bluetooth speakers and the loudest Bluetooth speakers in smaller sizes in case portability is important to you. The Exos-9 is permanently in Bluetooth pairing mode unless you lock it manually and keep up to 8 devices in memory simultaneously. This works without any problems, but we had some difficulties with the first pairing and needed several starts with our Huawei P20 Pro until a successful connection was established. Because of its larger form factor, you won’t just be able to pick it up and carry it with one hand, however.Aiwa was an independent Japanese company during the ‘80s and ’90s but they didn’t manage to survive the transition from analog to digital age. The Sony XB90 comes with some onboard controls, but you also have the option to operate the speaker using the Music Center app for audio and Fiestable app for lighting and party effects. The Aiwa Exos-9 features a 10-hour built-in battery with the ability to operate directly from socket power too. While the bass isn’t as big as some of the heavyweight speakers above, the MEGABOOM 3 certainly delivers a bigger bass sound than most speakers this size. We’ve weeded out the weak on our list by removing speakers we thought had bad sound design and or that distorted excessively at higher volumes.

We recommend only opting for models that can produce more than 90dB of volume for a loud Bluetooth speaker. The Bluetooth connection works well with no connectivity problems or signals loss up to 50ft away provided there are no obstacles in the line of the signal.

Some of our partners may process your data as a part of their legitimate business interest without asking for consent. Another annoyance is that the touch-sensitive buttons on the top are not always responsive so you may have to press them more than once to change a setting. While not exactly backpack-friendly and lightweight but not too cumbersome, the JBL Boombox II is an ideal all-around Bluetooth speaker to have whether you’re using it around the house or out and about. While JBL might be late to the party, they’ve certainly used that time to create one of the loudest portable Bluetooth speakers on the market. We also wanted to make sure we don’t recommend speakers that we can’t truly stand by, so we excluded products that offer poor quality or specify volume measurements that aren’t supported by the actual performance.

If you would like to change your settings or withdraw consent at any time, the link to do so is in our privacy policy accessible from our home page. So, 20W speaker is good enough for some nice background music, but it’s not good enough for parties and large events. I have the Sony XB90 and XB72 — but wanted other comparable items that were more outdoor and waterproof. It’s unfortunate that the previous Boombox model isn’t compatible with the Boombox II, though the first generation Boombox can be paired with another set of JBL products. The two USB ports on the rear panel don’t have anything to do with the connectivity of the AIWA Exos-9, but they do come in handy.

A paired set of speakers can really add a lot to the sound, both in terms of directional sound improvement due to varying placements and also just having more sound bouncing off the walls. To put things in perspective, Samsung S9 features 3,000mAh battery while iPhone X features 2,700mAh battery. If you don’t need thatmuch volume or you’re looking for something more portable – the JBL PartyBox 300 might be the better option for you. When you look at it, you might get the impression that it is a “party speaker” that can’t play decent music, but in reality it can. And when it’s low, if you’ve bought the optional battery pack, you’ll be able to keep the party going with an extra 9+ hours of continuous use as the original battery. After a few years, we can say with confidence that Exos-9 represents a successful revival of the famous Aiwa brand.
