In his first book, Honnold discusses why he free-solos, and he recounts his life of climbing — including adventures you probably haven’t heard about. Don't get me wrong – it's very well written, with good rhythm throughout, but it's just not very daring at all, though, and this is THE book that ought to have been, in my opinion. Character speculation aside, his adventures from cliff sides (and bike rides) made for a really captivating read. If you've seen the documentary Free Solo, about Alex Honnold, then this book won't really add anything new to his story but it was cool to get more of Alex's perspective on his life and his climbing accomplishments. The Soloist was directed by Jonathan Griffith, a filmmaker who specializes in shooting mountain sports.To be sure that everything would run smoothly with the next attempt, he trained even more intensively.
