Follow-up 'because the internet' went top 10 on the Billboard chart, was nominated for 2 Grammy Awards and further assimilated Gambino's multiple disciplines (it was accompanied, for instance, by two films and a standalone 72-page screenplay). They put 25 min of music on one side and it's really audible how quickly the quality degrades because of it (usually the limit for a side is ~23 min due to the physics). I also own the box set version of this album, but picked up the single disc version today, so I wouldn't have to hassle with the box set.

His full length debut on Daptone Records is equal parts raw feeling and elegance and exudes confidence and charm. Whether it’s rocking his best George Clinton impression over the platform boot stomp of “Boogieman,” or delivering a deep-hued spoken word manifesto on “Baby Boy,” Childish Gambino fully inhabits his funkadelic guise. When he serenades a girl moving to the Golden State over the kitschy calypso beat of “California,” it adds well-timed comic levity to his heavy soul odyssey. What's even weirder is that other tracks on this record can get the same volume by turning up to ~55%, track 1 was mastered really low in volume, the rest is still lower in volume compared to most records I have. Weird bass sound in redbone but other than that it's pretty clear and well balanced; BG did a great job on this imo.WOW this packaging is way overdone, the box is as thick as a 5lp box set, for a VR headset that became obsolete in less than 5 years. Main bad thing of note on this press is the extremely low volume - on the first track I had to crank it up to 75% whereas on most records I have, I can turn it up to ~45% to get the same volume. However, his best moments on his 2011 debut Camp arrived when he threw out the humblebrag playbook and exploded our stereotypes of black youth by addressing bullying and growing up in a two-parent household. With his 2014 EP Kauai, he barely rapped at all, instead offering a short suite of winningly pop meditations on summer romance.

His 2013 follow-up, Because the Internet, is remembered for when he harmonized wistfully on tracks like the hit single “3005. Both of the discs on my copy look like they came out of a wood factory - absolutely loaded in surface scuffs and discoloration spots, and it plays noisy as shit. A second series of 'Atlanta' has already been commissioned, whilst Glover has recently been cast in the forthcoming Spider Man movie and has also been confirmed to play the iconic role of Lando Calrissian in the next Star Wars film (a Han Solo spin-off). In the edit page, go to the 'Metadata' tab and add your Juno artist, label or release page for listeners to purchase your release / releases. Much like André 3000 and Kanye West, Childish Gambino seems to have realized that his music can be just as resonant, if not more so, when he brings a hip-hop sensibility to vocals and melodies, and leaves the bars behind. Some already anticipated his evolution – he debuted the project during his Pharos Festival at Joshua Tree, California last September. On “Have Some Love,” he swings with a leisurely gait akin to Funkadelic’s “Can You Get To That” as he implores us, “Have some time for one another/Really love one another. Pops and crackles sure (record had some really light scuffs caused by the record going in and out the innersleeve), but the record sounds alright.

This record is in a tough spot because it's that weird length where it's too long for 1 disc but too short for 2. Every record is shipped in original factory-applied shrink wrap and has never been touched by human hands.

Comprised of various labels we know and love at Rough Trade (Bella Union, ATO, Speedy Wunderground, Phantasy, Heavenly, Mute and more) PIAS [Recordings] filter through some of the most diverse artistry to our racks, which we greatly enjoy digging into. Gambino delves into the kind of grungy stanklove that OutKast once indulged in on their magnum opuses. is the third studio album by American recording artistDonald Glover, under his stage name Childish Gambino. Really wish Donald paid more attention to this release, especially with how phenomenal Because the Internet was in terms of packaging and sound. There’s some evidence of that: The themes of “Baby Boy,” which slinks along like an outtake from Sly and the Family Stone’s There’s a Riot Going On, and the Eddie Hazel-like scratch-guitar instrumental “The Night Me and Your Mama Met,” sound as if they could be coming from the mind of Earn Marks, the Princeton dropout, babydaddy and would-be rap manager at the center of Atlanta.

He subtly underlines his excursions with a message: “Stay woke … now don’t you close your eyes,” he cries in a high, Prince-like falsetto on “Redbone,” a spacy boogie exploration that thumps with thick lowrider bass. Maybe it's just my ears being strange, but I feel like listening through speakers can remove most of the dynamic issues. Recorded at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and crack team of a-list musicians, his upcoming album blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment.
