His wit is dangerously sharp, he should have to carry a license or a warning or something because it will leave you bent over in stitches. You may think an entire book analysing a forgotten Gwyneth Paltrow/Mark Ruffalo vehicle about air stewardesses sounds pretty thin stuff. You get a sense of how he came to be the slightly strange (and I say that lovingly) person he is now.

I read this book because I am an admirer of Richard Ayoade's performance on the British sitcom, The IT Crowd, and his two films, Submarine and The Double. His 2014 interview with British newscaster Krishnan Guru-Murthy went viral because Ayoade used it to turn the tables, hilariously, on the "essential lie" of the whole celebrity interview process. It’s a changed town now, but the retail opportunities in Ipswich did not seriously rival those of New York, and I remember I had difficulty sourcing the requisite regalia.Ayoade on Ayoade can be seen as a spoof, a mockery, a satire on those pretentious novel length interviews given by directors who only a handful of intellectuals have heard of and even fewer have actually witnessed their works.

Produced by Warp Films and Film4, it premiered at the 35th Toronto International Film Festival in September 2010, had a general release in the UK in March 2011, and was released in June in the US after being picked up by the Weinstein Company for North America. Ayoade has frequently appeared on panel shows, most prominently on The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, and served as a team captain on Was It Something I Said? BAFTA Television awards 2014: Richard Ayoade with the BAFTA for Male Performance in a Comedy Programme".At last, the definitive book about perhaps the best cabin crew dramedy ever filmed: View From the Top starring Gwyneth Paltrow.

The book form of Richard Ayoade is terrible due to the fact that the pedantry can't be lifted by Richard's usual deadpan performance. Here was a film that dared a pre-Trump America to believe in itself again, with its exhortation to work like hell, play like hell and take responsibility like hell when it wasn't really your fault.

I would suggest that if you like the idea of Richard Ayoade interviewing Richard Ayoade (about half of the book) whilst taking celebrity introspection to absurd new levels, or - for example - you know who Terrence Malick is, and you are attracted to reading a series of highly unlikely tweets he sent whilst making the film 'The Tree of Life', then you should find much to enjoy here. In 2007, he directed the music videos for the songs " Fluorescent Adolescent" by Arctic Monkeys and Super Furry Animals's " Run-Away", which starred Matt Berry. Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, and Dame Emma Thompson all honed their craft as Footlights members in the early '80s. I hadn't read anything from him before this, and maybe if I had I would have been better prepared for this book, but it was not to be.

My friend Aubses screened it a bunch of times in the first year and a half of the pandemic, and would regularly conclude other discord movie screenings with the "We are royalty" music number from the end. This book is crack up, and arguably totally unnecessary, and isn’t that the best thing a book can be? It was released in April 2014 to generally positive reviews, [60] drawing comparisons to Terry Gilliam's Brazil (1985) in its visuals and narrative.I suppose this is a fitting to point to mention that I have seen A View From The Top at least twice, though I have a suspicion it could be three times. For those who, like me, wondered if this was coming a little too early in the career of Richard Ayoade, rest assured – this is a spoof of those grandiloquent career-spanning interview books.
