They ended up with actually letting the sugar kelp macerate and then remove it before the distillation as it’s flavor would drown the other botanicals flavors. So I was looking through my 2017 Best Nine and 4 (actually 5 if you count my gin tasting post as well) featured the beautiful Isle of Harris Gin.

McLean’s Spiced Gin is now a seasonal release, available as a festive winter warmer between November to January.The palate features juniper delivering a resinous, fresh pine along with soft fruits, florals, some herbaceous notes that all intertwine to create a gin that’s rich in flavour, balanced and delicious. Betty’ is our 600 litre spirits still, used to make our award-winning Shining Cliff Gin and our Derbyshire Cask Aged Rum. Because the sugar kelp is such an unusual botanical, the gin was developed at the International Center for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh where they could experiment and adjust until they had the right amount and combination with the other botanicals. The wooden cap has Isle of Harris Distillers’ logo laser cutted beautiful in to it and is sealed with a small label with the coordinates to the distillery. Classic gin botanicals including angelica, orange peel and cinnamon are paired with allspice, ginger, pine and clove to create a deliciously spiced gin.

Bakewell Gin

Here at White Peak Distillery, we’re making our own bit of Derbyshire history and following the fathers of the industrial revolution that made our home a World Heritage Site. With its mouth-watering raspberry and almond flavours, we love a Bakewell tart here at Craft Gin Club HQ. The bottle have a blue bottom which you actually can’t see if you look straight to the bottle but from an angle the azure blue bottom transforms the whole bottle. They travelled each year from Papplewick to help with charcoal burning, and eventually stayed on permanently to live in the woods. From distilling and blending, to marketing and hospitality - there are a wide variety of skillsets and development opportunities available to local people as we create two beautiful Outer Hebridean spirits and bring them to the world.

The piquant citrus combination is then combined with 6 other botanicals including spicy tellicherry peppercorns and rosemary. Our team are given paid service days to volunteer on social projects like local beach cleans, and we regularly host community events at the distillery, attend school career fairs, and participate in local events.
